Saturday estate sale in the boonies, 35 miles away. Pictures looked interesting. I spent 32 on tools and $20 for the ladder rack.

Pic 1: The Craftsman. The toolbox is pretty roached but the metal Craftsman Chevron logo was needed for another box making it well worth the $6. The tap and die set will

donate 2 pieces to my own slightly older kit.

Pic 2: From the top, Diamond hatchet ( turned out to be Chinese when I got back in cell phone range and could do a search) Starrett plomb bb, Petersen C-clamp vise grips, Snap On tools including a 10 piece SAE impact socket set from 7/16 to 1", sockets and crowsfoot, Plomb WF breaker bar and a big DBE and a Lisle T60 Torx bit.

Pic 3: I was trying to help a guy load put this System One Contractors ladder rack on his Dodge 1/2 ton shortbed truck but it was just too small, meant for a Ranger or other compact truck. He didn't want it so I got it for $20, they are around $800 new!

Pic 4: The guy built a cool log cabin, it was even nicer inside.

I forgot that I stopped on the way home and sold my buddy a full gallon of antifreeze, a 1/2" Craftsman ratchet and about 50 Craftsman sockets for $15 so I actually only have $17 in the tools pictured above, not including the hatchet and truck ladder rack. Plus I didn't take a picture of the "Box of Rag's" or cans of starting fluid, PB Blaster and Dry Lube.

A few items this week. ($13.50 spent).

Anyone know what a Zimmer 29 D was used for? It might be medical but what body part was it used for?

Nice scores everyone. I have not had time to hit any sales lately, but I did manage to get the Craftsman cabinet I picked up a few weeks ago into its new home and I have a bunch more space now. In the bottom of the box was an assortment of bits and bobs, an automotive sensor tester, a few Snap-on sockets and a decent looking compression tester. Got a key made on-line and the lock and drawers work good. Now I have to get back to those sales and fill it up.

I forgot to mention, these tools came with the Snap-On box. I paid $30 for the box and the tools.

The Plumb adapter and Blackhawk socket are 3/4” drive. I missed out on the 3/4” ratchet ($10), a 3/4” Plumb extension ($4), and 5 Snap-On screwdrivers ($10) because I ran out of cash. I’m still very happy with my haul from today and yesterday though!

Nothing but a couple of interesting curiosities this morning.

The midget socket set box is a Stevens-Walden for a 13-pc Set No. 39120-29.

The little leatherette thing is a notepad. The “THINK” that you see on it, a slogan first used by Thomas J. Watson of National Cash Register (NCR) and Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company (CTR), which later became International Business Machines (IBM), has been with IBM ever since, embedded in the popular laptops known as ThinkPads. This one required a pen or pencil, but it belonged to someone named "J Cassidy" of IBM who worked, ostensibly, on the SYSTEM/360 project, a mainframe computer released in 1965. I am hoping to re-sell this to a computer geek who appreciates the history and the 1960’s era THINK emblazoned notepad to modern ThinkPad connection. Not very garage related, obviously!

Lugs - The "THINK" notepad reminded me that my father had an wooden IBM "THINK" plaque from when he was at MIT and running his thesis. He needed access to some big machines to run the process and this was the late 50's or early 60's. He got time on some government machines and ran the calculations in bits and pieces until it was complete. These machines would only run for short periods of time before crashing, so he had to change his process to do core dumps along the way as a restart mechanism.

Last I remember it was in my sister's room and she had stuck a sticker on the bottom that couldn't be removed without damaging the sign.

I wonder if it's still around?

Picked up a couple Proto obstruction wrenches and a dbe Craftsman, router guides, a flask and a steam cleaner today.

I did NOT buy the ($60)grinder but the base is cool as ever. Anyone recognize the maker? I didn't see any names.12f00cb1ebbe701bf8c7b885c859fb57.jpge4b3c2be94eeaf9605a469f84ae694ce.jpgd8d62e2b4c3e87cbefc88fa258de1385.jpg

Spotted this Delta Rockwell dp-255 on my way home from breakfast this morning.
It was for sale around the corner at a yard sale for 40$. I told him I would come right back with cash. Drove home grabbed some cash and walked to his house with my hand truck and drug it 5 blocks home haha. Easier than loading it by myself.

I have been terrible about posting to this thread this year but I had to post this find.

Craftsman model 113.24261 band saw. It wasn't cheap ($140) but it has all the rare accessories which makes this well worth the price.

Imcluded is the Craftsman "Slo-Speed converter", which allows this to cut metal, the optional pedestal stand, lamp, fence, and switched receptacle. It's difficult finding any one of these items in the wild but rarely all found in one place.

Dutch I haven't seen many of your posts get a lot responses but I appreciate you posting. I find it interesting to see what brands of tools are native to the UK and what US tools make their way across the pond. Thanks for posting.

Picked up some stuff!

EDIT: sorry for the brief description--my phone battery was dieing.

I picked up a 32" LCD TV and wall mount bracket during the clean-up phase of our church's annual yard sale. The Panasonic electric pencil sharpener was included.
Price: free!

Less than a mile from my house, a Craftsman radial arm saw pops up on Facebook Marketplace. Price was $50, and it qualifies for the recall, so I'll make $50 on the deal.

I know:thumbup:

Probably made your neighbors wonder as you walked by. :) $40 was a heck of a deal.

Well for the first few blocks yes, closer to home I had a few neighbors peering out their windows in envy, haha, they know im always finding garage sale treasures.

Mrs LS and I hit Jakes this morning. Attendance was HUGE. Many vendors had tools. The only complaint I can make is just as I was approaching a vendor with a lot of likely wrenches and sockets, a young guy stepped in and started going through them, building a huge pile and really, TAKING EVERY ONE I WOULD HAVE, if I had been two seconds quicker. I tried to shake it off, but he loaded them into a shopping cart hauled by a young woman, and zipped onward. I kept running into them at each vendor I stopped at, and their cart just kept getting more awesomely heavy. In an agony of grief and despair, I realized they were going to clean the whole flea market out of what I was there to buy.
So I switched to a different quarry, and did okay.
Along the way I took a picture of a Herbrand box. Seller wanted $40, which I didn’t think unreasonable, but I don’t collect Herbrand. And a cool thread spool display (made me tear up a little, thinking of all the sockets I could have put in it if those kids hadn’t been around today), and an exposed-screw Parker. That I didn’t buy, either, but I am thinking about it. That vendor has several nice vises in a shed, priced out of my reach. They don’t turn over very quickly. So maybe.

Wow, I would probably try to get him down to $30 but I'd still pay $40 if he said no. I just don't see Herbrand.

My budget is probably shot for the moment because I got into a bidding war on ebay, though...but I won, I'm stoked. You just don't really see Pratt & Whitney ID mics very often, let alone a 4-40" set. Taking a bit of a gamble but they look nice (same as Lufkin, slightly newer).

A few of the professional Estate Sale folks are beginning to start their larger sales on Thursday after work from say 4 to 7. Certainly helps a traditional M-F work week guy like me who typically can't get to most sales on the more usual Friday morning opening times.

So I hit an estate sale after work on Thursday put on by a company I know aggressively prices most of the things I would be looking for. I actually hired the company this past spring to liquidate my uncles estate items. Most folks that hire this company want ,within reason, stuff gone. So a small gentleman's farm where the husband had passed quite awhile ago but the wife was now ready to dispose of his collections and down size. Lots of cool stuff in the barns and the type of sale where you need to take about 4 rounds through and you still know you missed seeing something good.

Anyways, the pick ups from Thursday's sale.

Been on a Vulcan kick lately, Vulcan metric combos and SAE line wrenches,$12

Not to stir the pot anymore, but I did pick up this 1941 dated screw top WATER can today. Made by NESCO. Still with the original 2 lug cap. These early cans are galvanized and are usually in great shape. This one has been used to hold fuel.
