Finally got 427 box in primer. Lots of pickin’ ‘n filin’ on bedsides and floor but got it pretty straight. Bit of pitting in floor so did end up using a tad of filler.

Total headache trying to spray primer with the new 2M gun. All over box, concrete and I will have red primer freckles for years to come...

Friend stopped by to lend a hand so I could finally get to this stage.

When I first looked at those pictures I thought you must have cut your hand off or something. :) Then I realized it was paint and not blood.

Love progress pics!
Bed is looking Sharp!

When I first looked at those pictures I thought you must have cut your hand off or something. :) Then I realized it was paint and not blood.

That's a big milestone.
Bed looks good in primer.

Thanks all!

Thought I would share these neat valve covers. Placed a order 1 1/2 yrs ago thinking would prob never get them. I have multiple versions just plain steel then in chrome and a pair of "show chrome" from Advanced plating in TN which recently burned to the ground!

Now these custom cast covers with the Mercury script machined in to them.

Once again will need to sell something else to keep them but have been notified I should receive them this thursday!

Kinda thinking they may go on clone of my dad's truck as thinking on upgrading the 352 to a Mercury 410 which was avail in 1966-67. Dream would be to have a upgraded drivetrain similar to Eco1 but that will most likely not happen. Go cheap or go home . . HA

I still think you should get the necessary parts (tailgate, trim, etc.) to make it into a Mercury truck. :)

I know I have said this before, but the condition of that box is nuts! You couldn't find a pickup box from 2010 in that condition here in Minnesota.

No kidding. I have a '66 F-100 that was in really nice shape before restoration, at least for a Minnesota truck, but it was nowhere as near as nice as those desert trucks.

Got lucky after 18 yrs of looking. Bought a very nice complete truck kept box, front clip and other parts then sold rest of truck.

Original box very nice but installed the 2008 SD floor. Will use it for a trailer.

Isn't that just 'outdoors in Arizona'? ;-)

You got it!

Just checked. Light gray much cooler. Black/ Dark colors still 150. This is middle of September!

Moved truck to get ‘56 turned around to charge ac. Truck ran out of gas. 5 gallons went .8 miles.

Photo op 1st time in 21 yrs have these 2 been same place together.

Not to mention how close they both are to being done!

Just realized uploading with the G-J app one can click 2x to blow up the pics to a fairly large size . . Now if they would just get rid of those pesky irritating popups each time I try to view something.

Bottom side? I want to see the sanding block for that.

Make/Female blocks made out of hardwood!

By getting basic shape using pattern tool and shaping on wood using my big buffer with expander wheel then using sticky sand paper on inner outer box ribs I was able to make these precision sanding blocks.
With sticky paper in ribs I shaped blocks a little at a time. By using same thickness paper stuck to block I can now perfectly sand ribs.

Re: 1966 F100 EcoBoost Engine Swap & 1966 427 Project

Each side of rib has different angle too. So one groove block is held one way. Next groove the other. Same with bump.

I can change shape tightness of blocks by adding layers of sand paper.

Of course will be “slightly “ fussier with inside box.

On Eco2 the underside I will do primer then let it sit proper time then add color and satin clear.
Eliminating all sanding/blocking.

Busy last few days prepping youngest daughters 500 AWD full buff detail and pretty major maintenance deal as she is moving out on her own out of state for a new job.

Car Lookin’ pretty good for 13yrs old and 160k miles.

I told her by doing a smooth polish n wax it will be easier to pull out of ditch when she goes there.

Now seeing her car looking so good I should prob do same to mine.
Same car just dark gray. It mostly just sits as drive it little.
It’s got 220k miles.

I did move Eco2 cab into main shop so it’s up next! Hoping to do the little metal work needed and get it in primer soon.

Eco2 sitting in wait around 2yrs now.
Simply taking up too much valuable storage space. Either finish or dig a hole and bury it..

Re: 1966 F100 EcoBoost Engine Swap & 1966 427 Project

Envious of how well your cars age. Anything more than a decade or two old tends to rust to pieces around here.

You're making me tired too just talking about your projects! I think most people would be thrilled to have completed just one of your projects in their lifetime, especially with the skill and attention to detail, let alone a dozen. My hat is off to you sir.

I'm actually in a similar boat, just on a smaller scale. Enough projects lined up to fill 3+ years of full time work (unfotunately FAR from retirement), and then decided to start a home business for my wife which really cuts into the project time. I just pray in the future my 3 year old takes some interest in similar things so I'll have a helper and some quality bonding time while teaching him wiring, welding, and learn body work together. One can dream!

Thanks! Rebuilt the front on daughters car, gave it a full buff/polish/wax then drove up with her to PNW for her new job. 1450 miles. No way I could ever live there with all the rain starting soon and the "TRAFFIC". Mid day the traffic is many times worse than here during rush hour. They can keep the state of WA. Spent 6 1/2 yrs too long on east part of state and never again . .

It will be a hard time to even visit. Here in AZ figure one mile per minute in WA we typed in food place 3.1 miles 45 min drive. No thanks!

Update: Daughter now moved so next up is to finish up the '56 Belair project (21 yrs and counting) hoping only a couple days left for cleanup.

Did get the AC blowing 31 deg so its good. Final cleanup and FINALLY over..

Up next is the 2001 F150 4x4 Short Bed 2.7 EcoBoost engine swap in 3 weeks from now. Really need to get the 427 box painted prior to have room in shop.

I have also been asked by a book publisher if I am interested in doing a book on the 61-66 Ford trucks. (I may have mentioned this before but memory gone so no clue if I did or not)

TimeWarp,
maybe you are trying to do too much. Ever think about letting some projects go and spending more time driving the ones you have finished?

I have no choice but to finish 427 project along with Eco2.

Clone of my dads truck has been a 40+ yr dream. I have most of parts to build but no income will not allow me to build it.

Do you have ant H S kids peeking over the fence or through the gate?

They are candidates for your style of work.
They have seen the final project on the road.

It may need some weeding out of those that cannot take the work needed to get there.
But even one will give you a boost as well as them.

Continental is a sweet ride. If the book deal goes through I'll be in for a copy or two.

Should know within 3 weeks If I will do the book deal.

Do you have ant H S kids peeking over the fence or through the gate?

They are candidates for your style of work.
They have seen the final project on the road.

It may need some weeding out of those that cannot take the work needed to get there.
But even one will give you a boost as well as them.

I cannot find help to save my life. Tried a few but they cannot show up on time. If only questions they ask are:

1) How much do I get paid

2) I am broke can you give me an advance like today?

Last helper used the flat tire 5 times in a week but still had same tire on car .
Around here if they do stay long enough to get paid you will not see them until 150% of money is gone. Then will show 3 hours late the next time around needing a $$ advance because they are short on gas money!

Its about the only type around here so far. Finding someone
willing to work and being actually interested in what I do is near impossible.

Much less than someone actually showing up and on time as promised.

Finding someone who actually wants to learn the trade near impossible to this point.

Starting prior to age 13 I would have given my allowance and $$ earned from paper route to be able to hang around a shop and sweep the floors.

Around here you tell them the $ clock stops paying when they stop working and they will have a heart attack! Cruel and Unusual punishment if they do not get paid for taking a 40 minute smoke break every hour along with a 22 minute texting/phone break.

I have not finished a Complete project of my own since 2008 with the 1970 Boss 302.

Looks like my daughters '86 Bronco and soon the '56 Belair will be only finished projects although I did manage to Get Eco1 running and driving.

Made a fair amount of progress on the 427 Truck but its still a long ways out.

I have made many expected done dates and next is hoping for GoodGuys Scottsdale 2018 which is November 16th-18th
But, I have the 2.7 Engine swap 3 weeks from now.

It will feel good to actually finish 427 Truck but not holding my breath . . That will really help the stress level. Eco2 being done would take down stress level a few thousand notches.

Finally able to get box blocked out re-primed and underside painted!

It’s back on cart to finish blocking inside and out of box.

Slow but progress.

Rainbow Ranger got caught in some pretty major rainstorms and surface rust building to point of it will start to cost much more if I don’t do something about it. Zillions of things to do but too nice of truck to ignore.

Ordered some SPI epoxy primer in black
Should be here Friday.

Plan on spending at least a few hrs per week on it until in primer.

I have 10 days until I need to do the 2.7 Eco swap then still find energy and time to get 427 truck done for GoodGuys Nov 16th.
