$50 netted the following, mostly in the Gruen wristwatch. It's in nice shape, no case/crystal wear but replaced/relumed hands and needs a less craptastic strap.

Not pictured is a very old Atwater Kent radio I got for my dad, $5 (couldn't resist the price).

Didn't get anything but I got to watch 2 boxes of Christmas bulbs go flying through the air. I'm surprised anyone set up with the wind today.

Nate: so in your pile I noticed an anvil and wondering if it's got any markings on it or how much does it weigh?

also looks like you snagged a Wilton C2 that is one of the better 5 inch vises for anybody's shop to use.

WELL DONE!!

I hit Collingwood at 0645 and I was out of there by 0730 to get my son to his game on time at 0800! In that time I managed to snag a WWII M5 armorer's tool chest, a WWII thread file made by none other than Reiff & Nestor (famous among some of us Pennsyltuckians, goes in several upper echelon maintenance kits!), and a BELL SYSTEM (Millers Falls No. 1100) adjustable hacksaw frame. This is the second one I have found that worked like this (it slides in and out and that little knurled thumb screw locks it into place), although I can't find the first (anther motto!).

In that time I also saw a York 1924 Czech patent 685,893 swivel vise with 6" jaws and original red paint. The guy wanted $60, which is a very nice price, but more than I wanted to spend. I offered $40. He countered at $50. I walked away thinking I would swing back around (it was cold, windy, drizzling and practically deserted) and get it for $40. If you're thinking this must be the 'Epic Bone-Headed Fail' part of the morning I promised above, you'd be right. Of course, it was gone. I've been kicking myself in the *** all day. If you're not familiar, this is the vise that a young Czech citizen, Mr. Vogl, was peddling in Chicago before he started Wilton. It looks like a heavier squatter shorter Wilton Bullet. Operates on the same principle, with a thick round slide. There is absolutely ZERO DOUBT that Vogl appropriated the design for his own US design patent in 1941. The York is a serious vise. I screwed up big time!

Oh, and Pics 2, 3, & 4 are some Flashlight Fleamarket context shots I took just for you, Drives! :)

LUG: don't feel like the lone ranger negotiating on something and then asking yourself DO I REALLY NEED IT. cause if you ask usually you'll tell yourself NO and keep looking for stuff you really like for your own collections or something you know you can trade or sell to someone you know or flip.

that said you were a bit shortsighted not picking up a YORK for $50. I have yet to find one in the wild and not that I like Wilton bullet vises that much, but they do seem to have value. of course you'll probably find something next week to spend the $50 on that will be better is the only way you can look at it.

thanks for the FLASHLIGHT FLEA PICS!!

To say the least! In all honesty, I am not feeling that bad about it anymore. After almost 10 years of doing this, like everyone else who's been at it that long, or even shorter, I have a whole list of screw ups just like it. But I also have a list of great decisions, and it's much longer. Yeah, I have let some great items get away from me trying to be shrewd. But I like to think if I didn't have any restraint and shrewdness, I would be broke and out of the game completely! :)

Hit an estate sale this week that had a few Plomb Empire pieces. The last pic is everything else.

A few months ago picked up this vintage Snap-On KRA-155 top handle utility case, very light wear. I'd call it a 7/10. Paid $25

Been hitting the online sources the last few weeks, trying to find some tools to fill gaps or ones that are just too good a deal to pass on.. Recent acquisition from a guy getting out of mechanics is a 10-19mm OEXM710B set of wrenches. Solid 8/10 condition only because of light marks. $380 retail. Was a great deal @$120. Pic before I even cleaned the fingerprints off them:

Couple of these wrenches fill gaps my old set had.

I've been camping all weekend, so I just caught up after getting home, unloading restocking a few things and putting things away.

You guys are killing it I looked after I got homer and went to two but one was closed by the time I got there.. The other was a HS Flea regular setup at home, and I picked up 3 rotary files/rasps, and a brass cribbage board.

A fair number of other sales, but none listing tools... Its just been slow. :dunno:

Well, I hit a barn sale today. Ended up rummaging through the old mans wrenches and decided to pick up a couple. He didn't have complete sets, but I grabbed the ones I liked. I also picked up a mini vice for a couple bucks, not sure how well I did with the mini vice, but I mostly picked it up because I thought it would be fun to rework it.
Wrenches I picked up 2 FULLER KTC drop forged combinations from Japan sizes 3/4 and 5/8
1 Proto 9/16 1218 USA made
1 Armstrong 25-220 size 5/8
and a double open end wrench by Rugol Japan made size size 3/4 and 5/8

I paid $5.00 for the wrenches and 5.00 for the mini vice which is a speedmaster.

I'm not sure how well I did on the vice, but I also don't really care, I like it. Here's some pictures.
Sorry some are blurry, he didn't have a good camera for sale.

Have not had any time to go out lately but made 2 quick stops yesterday while getting breakfast. Craftsman ratcheting screwdriver, no-name Chineseium gasket/leather punches, assorted clamps and a bonus tool mixed in with the clamps, a disc brake pad spreader/caliper piston compressor. 8 bucks all in.

If I'm not mistaken that Speed master is mostly aluminum right? I have one that has a crack at one of the slide dowels. It needs tig welded or I need to find another. No heavyweight but a great, light, second pair of hands for small detail work which I do more of all the time. ,

Pics of the cribbage board? I play, and picked up another wooden one at the same sale yesterday where I got the Workmates, but have not seen a brass one.

To everyone else, sorry to be off-topic. We now return you to regular programming. :lol_hitti

Not off-topic! After all, isn't a game board really a tool for entertainment?

Sure Bill, I was being lazy...

Board (made in Taiwan), rotary files, and a short handled "dental" mirror I forgot about.. Three bucks all.

attachment.php

I almost didn't get it as I have so many but it was Brass and therefor sort of unique as you said. I think the coolest one is the "burl" one I have hanging on the wall with other wood board games.

FYI, if I am correct those fuller brand wrenches are actually made by koken tool company-ktc

I did some "curbside shopping" last night during our monthly neighborhood bulk pickup weekend.

I picked up a 14 year old Craftsman 8HP 27" snow blower that is IMMACULATE. I thought that it was brand new when we grabbed it. It started right up with fuel and runs fine.

The only challenge is that the roll pin on the impeller has slipped out. The augers turn so the gearbox seems good. I need to dig into that a little bit . . .

Cheers

Jim

Jim, it is probably a shear pin not a roll pin.

**** 2x. I bet the PO hit a rock or curb the first time they used it, sheared the pin then wrote it off. It's amazing what some people consider disposable. And disappointing that so many people are not mechanically inclined enough that the thought of having it repaired never even occurs to them.

The last few things from the weekend. The hammer is a Fairmount, the pick head is Diamond Calk and the hammer is Vaughn & Bushnell with a cool logo on the flip side. The ratchet is a Bonney T-28.

Craigslist alert popped up for metal shop cabinets Friday afternoon. A machine shop a few miles from work was clearing room for new equipment. They had two 48"x36x22 cabinets, two 36"x36x22 cabinets, and one 24"x36x22 single cabinet. Each has two interior shelves. I can't find a name on them, but they are pretty stout institutional cabs. No tops but pretty solid.

Shop manager was asking $20 for each double cab and $10 for the single. A very reasonable price. I offered $50 for all and he bit. I've sold two for more than I paid for all and will keep and repaint the rest.

About 10 years ago I salvaged three pieces of 3/4" birch plywood from some built-in counters when my office remodeled. Each piece is 8'x24" - the perfect depth for each cab so all I have to do is cut for length. Here's one of the 48" cabs.

Hit the swap meet this weekend, did a little buying and selling, weather was nice Sat., kind of sucky and raw on Sun.

First 3 pics shows a small anvil, made in USA, interesting notes on bottom, GTD #5 tap wrench, Atlas 10" lathe follow rest and a Delta wood lathe steady rest.

Fourth pic shows 2 wide face 6" wire wheels, 2 3M flap discs, 3 deburring wheels, all new, total $12.00.

Fifth pic - Dunlap vise with copper/bronze soft jaw covers, pretty nice shape, nice badge. Not shown is a nice Fuller vise I bought for $20. on Sat. and sold for $40. on Sun.

Pic 6 Parker 974 vise, slide is stuck, someone tried to force it out with the main screw, and broke the collar retention screw. Nice shape other than that, should be an easy fix.

Pic 7 live centers, one regular pointed type, other has an internal cone for shafts without a center hole. 2 large Jacobs chuck keys.

More to come in the next post.

Part 2

First 3 pics show a mechanical tachometer, unbelievable workmanship, like new, has 5 speed ranges to cover speeds from 30 to 12.000 RPM. You select the range by rotating the barrel on the bottom where the shaft comes thru. It will also read FPM. My crappy pics don't do it justice.

Pic 4 and on shows stuff from last week or 2 yard sales, brand new Rule bilge pump, internal and external thread chasers, mirror, Dewalt knife, bits and blades, and some SK saltus wrenches, missing the 1/2" to make a set from 7/16" to 3/4".

Pic 5 Craftsman vise

Pic 6 Free 1/2" drill, it's a beast, but extremely smooth and quiet, was very surprised. Looks like the gear reduction type that will break your arm if you're not paying attention and the bit catches.... Says "CP" , is this Chicago Pneumatic? Did they make electric drills?

Pic 7 Hurst shift handle/stick, couple Hurst tee handles, 2 screwdrivers for a buck, New sealed Mothers polish and a couple chain links.

I'm not surprised by JNG's driveway snowblower find. Some folks around here put perfectly good stuff at the ends of their driveways too. It's good to be mechanically inclined! You ****!

ALL: as some of you know I've got a soft spot for metal cabinets and especially rotobins. last night I drove 45 minutes in a dense fog to pick this one up that is about 3 foot tall and 28 inches wide that is full of bins. yep farm fresh and rusty, but as far as i can tell no rusted through spots so it should clean up nicely when i have some time.

Not sure if you saw post 7111. Another old V&B.
3bay, I did see that one and I wonder how many different logos they were using.
You ain't the only one wondering. I have never seen that V&B Chicago-Eagle before! It's really cool. I have a pair of odd pliers with the same V&B logo as 3bay's hammer, linked to my post on woody's V&B thread stranded in the General Discussion section here.

Pic 7 Hurst shift handle/stick, couple Hurst tee handles, 2 screwdrivers for a buck, New sealed Mothers polish and a couple chain links.

that's the same hurst handle I have in my car
