Great! 1956
Congratulations!
I initially wanted to restore mine, but ended up keeping it "old looking" - just cleaned it up and put new liners in. Great user box for small tools!

Just picked up a set of tool boxes off Craigslist for 100 bucks, and I went through all 523 pages of this post over the last couple days and could not figure out what brand they are or how old they are, my best guess is Mac possibly.

The top chest has the same pulls and drawer layout as my proto 9997 but the lid is different? I can’t quite place who made your box ?

Regarding your comment about blasters waiting $200 just to strip it:

Go get a quote for powdercoating it...

I was quoted about $240 to strip & powdercoat this:

In the end I traded the guy some (free to me) ammo & ended up paying $80 for this result:

Not much of a tool box per say. I've got three of them for free at my local recycle center the other day along with a bunch of tools.

I'm curious as to what its for? Anybody know?

If you ever feel like you have one too many Tom boxes PM me for a trade.
Could be the Tom’s Nuts company they had little snack dispensers in the Southwest. But way cool.

Do you guys have any ideas on how to get replacement keys for my tool box? I tried easykeys but my order went straight to back order. Thank you for any help!

Well I pulled the locks and had something interesting happen. What to do now is the question.

$50 nine drawer Cman from Craigslist, turned out to be a '92 Waterloo. Gave her a bit of a once over.

Whew. If that had been a ball bearing I would have been super jealous.

:)

As it is I'm just plain old normal jealous.

Well I don't want anyone being super jealous so I won't mention the Snap On and Mac that came inside. Whoops! Too late ;)

Thanks for the kind words guys. Now I need to do my $200 seven drawer (5") Stanley Vidmar from the USAF. No ball bearings there either, but in this case it's good news because it has the 400lb steel roller guides :)

Took a three-day "tool trip" this week and may or may not have gone a little tool box crazy. No parts shelf for the Toolmobile but I'm thrilled to have it. On the gray and red stack, both the top chest and roller are date stamped '68. The Cornwell (I have the drawer that's not in the picture, just needs the slide tweaked) was purchased from the same seller as the Plomb. Both have both original keys and belonged to the sellers Grandfather. Between tools that were in the boxes and the generosity of a couple of GJ members I met along the way, I'm going to be sorting tools for the next couple of days. Also picked up a three-drawer Heritage chest but forgot to take a picture of it. Fun trip!

JoCoSawdust -- Don't know what you paid for all that vintage metal, but you get a YOU **** from me because of the variety of brands, and the Craftsman mid box.

Thanks but I think the 1,000+ mile trip I made for this stuff kinda waters down the "you ****" element. The Toolmobile was the impetus for the trip. I sealed the deal based on pics and conversation with the seller. He was kind enough to hold it for me till I got up to the Cleveland, OH area to pick it up. With the weather they've been getting lately it's taken a while. I figured I'd try to lessen the foolishness of driving 1000 miles to get one tool box by finding some other stuff in new hunting grounds. It was a lot of fun. Fortunately I was by myself. Had I had a passenger they would have spent the return trip ratchet strapped to the roof of my truck. I was loaded. Spent just shy of 700 bucks plus fuel and slept two nights in my truck. I'd like to do this again. Once I sort through all the booty I'll probably post pics over on the Garage Sale thread.

This sounds like my idea of a perfect vacation. You still get a, "You ****." for the Plomb box. I've been chasing one of those suckers for years.

That is crazy cheap! Don’t ask me how I know! If I wasn’t a continent away, I’d be all over that.
