As I had a crappy work day, I took a few minutes off to go to a rather small estate sale. The following came home with me:

P&C water pump pliers and combo, a nice bit driver (check out the metal cap!) and a box and a half of .35 Rem. Which I actually shoot.

Oak- nice find on the SK. I want to say mine has some issues too. Either worn or missing a piece that chases the ball bearing around, not sure. Probably why they didn‘t last long.

Woot--we crossed the thousand post mark last night!! Were a bit behind the pace set by last year's thread, but still plenty of year left to scrounge, pick, and buy.

Great finds and discussion, guys! I agree that I dont ever recall a post from Germany. England, Italy, yes, but not Lower Saxony. Welcome!

Also, I'm viewing the thread on the Tapatalk app and I see JakeMac's pics just fine.

Well done on the forklift BC! You ****!

I'm sleeping off some kinda flu bug, so it's a good thing there are no tempting sales nearby. I'll probably spend the weekend inside, listing my "resale" pile on Ebay.

Good luck to everyone else! And remember: you don't have to be a regular or have a steal of a deal to post. We like all finds, big and small.

I know there are a few out there that like Freaking BIG grinders. I went to this estate sale tonight.....tomorrow is half off. This thing is huge and its on a nice stand. Looks like it was being used in a small shop so maybe its not running 440 volts now. The sale is just east of Moline in Colona Illinois

JWSIA, I wonder if that grinder came off of a Navy ship? I've seen some BIG one (18"???) in the machine shop of the USS ALABAMA, and the one from the machine shop of the USS NORTH CAROLINA was taken off by the Navy, sometime after she was decommissioned. It's too far for me to go check out that 10" one you posted, which looks pretty cool for anybody who has 440v.

d42, I see you sliding in some BHM and FairmounT, nice! Lugz, nice score on that Williams 1-1/8"!

I missed last week, sick. This week's sale was a bust (just HF-grade tools, but in nice shape) - nothing followed me home, except a space blanket and some flourescent lights for the garage. Today, I'm headed with a buddy who's in town, but we're not garage sale-ing :(

Lugz, nice score on that Williams 1-1/8"!
Thanks. As you might suspect, it's already spoken for by a GMTK guy! :)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I picked up this vintage mill vise at the flea this morning. It's a lunker! Traces of OD paint, too. It moves very well for its age. As you can see the spindle wheel to move the vise left and right has its crank handle snapped off, unfortunately. It's threaded, but finding a replacement is pert near impossible I suspect. Probably easier to make it or find something close that will fit and shape it. I donlt see a name but I might find one after clean-up. If any of you old machinery guys are checking in and you recognize it, let me know. Looks to me to like it was an accessory to a specific milling machine, not made and sold generically.

Flea market this morning and nothing until I was doing my second lap before leaving and managed to score a couple Channellocks and a Knipex 88-250 that sits nicely next to the 88-300 I picked up for $3 a few months ago. 2 bucks each.
8d2398536221861c37f644f3d6d2233a.jpg

Slightly disappointed with the slim pickings, I stopped by a ReStore on the way home. Saw this small Chinese vise priced at $25 when it still has the original agri-supply tag on it for $8.99.
ebc023c2acee3de2be315ed0ded10fcf.jpg

As I'm rolling my eyes at the price, I literally stubbed my toe on a Columbian 604-M2 sitting on the floor. Priced at $35. Sold.

A little surface rust, but pretty smooth with zero slop. In looking at other pics of this model on the web, I notice mine isn't marked "Cleveland Ohio" underneath Columbian. Any ideas as to the date?

Is this a sign of cabin fever?

I have this CL buy Plomb box being shipped across the continent courtesy of a post on the Vintage toolbox thread.

No suckage here I more than doubled his asking to get him to ship, and still paid more in shipping than the box cost...

I picked up a few things last week.

Older guy that I know is having a big warehouse sale. I stopped by and picked up a few things, spent $110 total.
Pic 1 and 2: Large lot of airplane models and pictures, I paid $30 and doubled my money selling them the next day.
Pic 3: Durham cabinet full of new hardware, exactly what the drawer labels say.
Pic 4: Large 50+ lot of license plates, mostly 1970's Michigan. Not pictured are a Jeep early CJ paperweight and a Mickey Mouse serving tray, both went to friends.

Hit an antiques flea market with a few friends in tow but it was a bust in terms of tools.

However when I got home my 2nd Etsy delivery was waiting for me!

Fun little compact T-Bar multi-tool. Flatblade, pick, auger and corkscrew store in the handle.

Was originally chromed but now mainly polished brass. Some of the bits are a little wobbly when fitted but the corkscrew is just fine [emoji485] 20190209_201806-COLLAGE.jpg

picked this out of a toolbox of tools for sale. Tools were for sale individually.

It is well used, and loose, but it is a plomb. Gonna go in my off-road box for trail fixes. I don’t remember if I have a 3/8” universal in there or not.

How do I go about finding out how old this one is? Stamp says WF-24 Plomb.....

Finally got in the game for 2019 (unless you count a couple of impatience-driven eBay grabs). Stopped by a church rummage sale before brunch. $5 netted these tools and an unpictured knife for my dad.

I can't resist adjustable wrenches. The caulker was misused as a chisel; marking suggests it's very old Plomb, 1927 or earlier.

Yard sales were rained out, but I did bring a CL find home that will be a big project:

A 1987 4WD Toyota van. Its got a fair amount of battle damage but I'l give it a rough straightening, and hit is with truck liner or similar in the bottom rails, it will be used for hauling and camping/hunting and OI won't care if it gets scratched... :pimpflash

any faded rusted parts will get flat blacked or maybe a dark charcoal. it needs a LOT of toning down on the silver...

The "roller skate" tires and wheels got to go though!

A friend in high schools girlfriends mom had one back in the '80s. I was a 5-speed and the weirdest thing to drive.

You're right, those wheels have got to go! (vintage rims can sell pretty quick too.)

I had a few things all show up from eBay.

Vlchek 6" and Pexto 8" adjustables.

And a NOS vintage pair of Erem 30 HL precision needle nose pliers, coo Switzerland. Finishing isn't as nice as my newer pair of Erem flush cutters.

That being said, jaws are ground smooth. They do not come together except at the tip, similar to my Snap-on needle nose. Jaw tips are symmetrical. Box joint construction with spring assist. They feel excellent in hand, think we have a winner here.

I stopped at a garage and tool sale but nothing I needed. There was a large steel cabinet though for $15. A good friend just bought a 4800 square foot auto shop and needs some storage so I grabbed it for him, he was happy to get it!

It's WWII. The WF series were made under contract for the US Army Air Force at Wright Field. Hence, "WF."

Thank you for the history lesson

If it’s that old, I don’t know if I want to abuse it. Not because it’s old, but because it has history. It made it this far in life, and I don’t want to be the one to break it on the side of a trail.

Looks like it’s going into my secondary box for sure!

Part 2 of my garage sale finds.

Not sure what the top 2 are, but the third is Williams USA, then VLCHEK, then Challenger.

All going into my backup box since I don’t use these kinds of wrenches too often. I just couldn’t pass them up though.....

A local used tool store is closing their doors so I went to check it out today. There were no real bargains to be had (even with their closeout prices, most things were too expensive for me) but after digging through multiple bins I put together a set of old Craftsman ratcheting box end wrenches. They're the old style with nylon bodies so they're not the greatest tools in the world but they'll be okay for the occasional times I'll use them. Between the four of them there are three different Craftsman logos, but despite the differences in age their part numbers all use the same sequence.

OutlawMS bought a Star Trek Shuttle!

Not even CLOSE!!
the real Star Trek Shuttle was the1996 Oldsmobile Silhouette! (AKA Chevy Lumina APV) It was practically a carbon copy of a Bill Cushenberry creation from the 60's by the same name. I had a model of it when I was a kid - it even came with a matching trailer, bubble top and all. (well, maybe closer to the trailer than the car...still...)

In the later years, 2004 saith WikPed, the snout was shortened and squared off considerably.

I had a very New Britain themed haul today. Several "double groove" wrenches and some 1950s era ones, too.

attachment.php

I'm curious if anybody knows who the OEM was for this socket set box. It currently holds a set of sockets that look like Craftsman Circle H, but only one of them is marked. None of them even have the sizes marked on them. Perhaps they just got worn off as the set shows signs of heavy use. Somebody added a "V" series Craftsman ratchet somewhere along the way.

I couldn’t read them at first but these two appear to be un-plated New Britain NM-42 ratchet bodies.

I’ve never seen an M.H.T. Co. DBE before. Lakeside/Lakeview Forge? 1/2” end milled thinner.

Well, it's not a gararge or estate sale find. It's not a Craigslist or ebay find. It's a GJ estate sale 2019 find! Back on the 12th 454ragtop found this Craftsman Crown socket set box (see 1st pic). I mentioned I was hoping to find one and the next thing you know it's arriving at my home. I have a 3/4" Craftsman -V- socket set that has needed a proper resting place since I found it. Now, it has a home! Pic of the box as it arrived, after cleanup and with the socket set stored inside.

After seeing the box in person I was thinking this box might just be for a set of sockets. Period. No ratchet, extensions or breaker bar. After putting my set in there it looks like it could be for a socket set but still have some questions. Here are the sockets that came with it when I bought it - 1-3/4, 1-11/16, 1-5/8, 1-1/2, 1-7/16, 1-3/8, 1-5/16, 1-1/4, 1-3/16, 1-1/8, 1-1/16, 15/16. I believe it's missing the 1" socket (and possibly 1-9/16?) but clearly the box wouldn't hold any more sockets other than loose sitting the the ratchet and other accessories. It has the 3/4" ratchet, 8-1/2" extension and the 18" breaker bar. Does anyone recognize this or know what should be in the set? It would also be icing on the cake to know what box would have originally housed this set.

454ragtop Thanks for letting the box come to a new home and being so diligent about finding the most reasonably priced shipping option! I love the box!!

Edit: Should I open a separate thread to discuss missing sockets or accessories and other questions regarding this vintage of 3/4" CM socket set?

From the picture looks like you forgot to mention a 05196 vise?
