:shocking: Gaah! That is a lot of Firestone in one place! Did all three of the midget cases have sets or partial sets in them? And even though you don't buy it, what were the prices like? Also, if there is a 1-7/16" end on the other end of that Pebble DOE with the 1-1/4" end showing, it would be a 3061, which is one of only two DOE's Roy Olson needs to complete his 30xx series set.

Yeah. I figured this would create a splash of interest. Here’s some more. Wish I had telepathy and endless cash sometimes. Too bad someone else won the Powerball, or I’d pick it all up tomorrow and spend the summer filling orders.
The 1/4dr Firestone box at the bottom left in that picture has another box under it; there were FOUR. All had at least partial sets. I photographed the one that had the best graphic under the lid. The other ones weren’t discernible.
The vendor told me he’s had the Bonney stuff since January, had it out three weekends so far this season. I think that applies to the Plomb/Firestone, too. Could be I was just too focussed on the Bonney last week to take note.
Here are a couple bigger “Firesticks” boxes, ha ha. Sorry I didn’t look inside. Maybe tomorrow, unless someone beats me to it.

Hey, gents, great start to the weekend!

I picked up this new shop vehicle on Friday and am driving it from Iowa to Mass over the next week. I'll keep my eyes peeled for sales along the way.

Watch my garage thread for more pics and to follow along.

We are actually the ones holding a yard sale today, but not a single one of my tools is being sold. The wife knows it will never happen

I always joke around with the Mrs of the sale "I'll pay cash and he'll never know they're missing!" Garage sale humor....

LMAO. Yes, I’ll confess to having a blonde day. I should have spent the cash I used to buy the Bonney to buy as much Plomb as I could, then flipped it all on eBay. Oh well.
It’s not like I don’t see the attractiveness of the Plomb, but I see it as a seriously deep rabbit hole. “A man’s got to know his limitations.”

So, I hit the sales pretty hard yesterday (and even got a call from Smokeshadow about one of the items, but it was in pretty bad condition), But the wifes 45th birthday is next week, and what was going to be the main gift got bid up way past what I thought it was worth, so I headed out for something I saw a half dozen of in one of the estate sales ads that was an hour away from me.

But, if I am going out, I might as well see if there is anything I might be interested in. And not far from that is something I wouldn't mind picking up, but is so desireable that I doubted it was still there. But, it was one of those things that hints at other good stuff.

Got there, and the object is still there! And looking at the price, I am surprised. They were only asking $95 for it. Well, I don't need it that bad... Looking around, I was surprised that there wasn't much in the way of good tools, or any tools really. Family must have gotten them. Gathered a few things, was paying and the lady (who recognized me) says "It's make an offer day too" Really? So, I say back to her "Then will you take $30 for that tool box?" She looks at it and goes, "sure"

I did this yesterday with a Herbrand top box too. Just offering something silly, and the non-tool people accept!

Bought what lookes like a shop made box today that has some nice pieces in it.
Older SC 71N ratchet, plug style cornwell ratchet, bluepoints wrenches, Cornwell wrenches, Blue Point and Cornwell water pump wrenches, mostly Wright sockets. And evidently a pretty rare SO plug driver!
Also picked up some chisels, Starrett nipper (?) and some kinda industrial lights.
Posted some pics in the Vintage Snap On and Blue Point threads.

Pretty good day, but it's starting to get hot out there ...

:lol_hitti i chose that more for The Rock’s facial expression and it had two people. Not the blonde thing, but I see that one having many uses. At least tell us the stuff was astronomical prices so we fell better, lol.

Dave- dang, you guys are finding double ended adjustables around every corner lately.

Outlaw- looks like your hammer is in good shape. Nice find.

Bomber - nice looking ride!

Oak- sweet haul.

BMW -the box price deserves a YOU ****!

Redvise like I said earlier, great old finds. That Snap On handle

I checked Craigslist this morning and spotted a sale within 10 minutes of home so I jumped in the car and headed on over. A lady was moving and she was selling off her late husbands tools. He apparently had been a local machinist and I found some items I couldn’t leave behind. The first picture is the whole haul, the second is the Starrett stuff. A few Craftsman tools is followed by a couple of Klein pliers. The socket box looks like wartime S-K and it had some Thorsen and one PowrKraft socket in it. The Whitman & Barnes drill index came home and on the way out I spotted the almost pristine WW2 shovel with cover. The seller said that her brother had brought it home from Korea. The shovel is from ‘45 and the cover from ‘44.

Small haul at an estate sale today. Picked up a a Millers Falls aluminum square, a Fuller and two unmarked wood chisels, a Kreg drill bit for their pocket hole jig and a more than slightly damaged Hubley race car all for $3.

The other sales were a bust today.a33c3263c7a3a25bd9996d4ba67fb014.jpg806ccf71457b875c796dee692d4036d5.jpg2186e5bd3ae4558e4167d1e25581d306.jpg8819661d2cc116e3aa42ab5375e33c58.jpg

Craigslist buy the other day. A 5 inch Wilton vise with a cracked swivel base. $40.00
I am a welder will repair it. No pics still in the car, cold and snowy since I got it.
Local surplus store has 1/2 inch breaker bars black finish about 12 in long for $2.95 still in the crate.

Nick

What brand breakers?

Marked WF 37 PLUMB

NICK

Those would be worth grabbing if only to flip.

I didn’t buy the Wilde parrot pliers, but did note the ropey pattern grips, like some Craftsman pliers.
I did buy the US HKP 1945 side wire cutters. HK Porter? Were they really military?
And these three compound squares (sadly, minus their long-lost steel rules). All three have ODG enamel. One is stamped “hardened”, the other two have different owners names scratched in about the same location. No awls, though I have one that fits the largest square. Two larger ones have good bubble level, smallest does not. Again, are these military? I assume the manufacturer name was on the part I don’t have.

Absolutely. HKP had over $3M worth of contracts with the Corps of Engineers, QMC, and others during WWII. Those are M1938 pattern wire cutters and in wonderful condition. Very nice find. Their classic bolt cutters are shown in the figures pages of several manuals.

EDIT:

Your cutters were made for the last contract on this list. The "QM" in the contract number is Quartermaster Corps (QMC).

These do not have any chrome on them and might have been in a flood in their warehouse.
Plomb WF series tools were made for the US Army Air Corps (HQ in Wright Field, Ohio) during WWII. The black is either black oxide or just dark natural steel. No chrome plating during WWII. They aren't rare, but as Oultaw alluded to, there are likely some guys out there who may need one and they are typically at least 5 x more than ~$3.

Picked up a 7-drawer Kennedy rolling chest this evening. Good condition. Owned by a retired tool maker. Every drawer full of machinist/tool maker stuff. No pics tonight. Will update as soon as I've got pics and figured out what kind of stuff is in it. Like opening presents at Christmas! :)

Ls, they are probably Lufkin square pieces. A lot of their stuff came with an almost od enamel green paint. They might say Lufkin on one of the narrow machined edges.

You should know better! That's not a shovel, it's an Entrenchment Tool!
My dad told me so.

All I know is that it’s much nicer than any of the others I have. It will be riding around in the back of the Jeep. It’s my experience that they are most often used for cleaning up after the family dog. Judging by the condition of that one, it didn’t do much entrenching.

It was a bright but cold morning at 6am today and the first time I could get to the Leeds-Bradford Airport carboot, which opens early!

Picked up a few random things.
> Old wood and metal cash draw - £2.50
(Not sure if using this for parts storage ooorrrr use it to plant small alpines/succulents)

> Universal No.2 adjustable spanner - £2
(first time finding this style in the wild, and England made!)

> 6 x Superslim imperial spanners - £1
(little rusty and some repeats but serviceable and for a quid good enough)

> Woden 3" G-Clamp - £1
(battered but will end up as a hook above my workbench)

> Anglepoise Lamp - £3
(I seem to be having a lamp week!)

> Tiny claw hammer head - £0.50
(No markings but fun to have, need to find a tiny handle)

Not pictured
> 1.5" x 24" antique stained shelf
> Hosta plant for garden

Oh and if anyone is wondering about the water feature beside the table....
Thats a WW2 Army toolbox I converted last summer. The bottom was rotten out and was bought for the tools inside.
(I'm prepared to be tar&feathered by the GJer's)

Snags for the weekend. A couple of Plomb (first Plomb I've found in weeks), 1 Tru-Fit Lectrolite DBE, a couple of None Better wrenches, a ratcheting 50s Craftsman that completes a set for me, box of Long C that I bought for the box and some odds and ends of Snap On.

I don't think you have much to worry about--GJers are mostly a friendly crowd.
I think it far better to repurpose a piece of history rather than throw away something others would consider ruined.
