I have always kept my chrome sockets in the top of "upper box". 1/2" and 3/8" drive SAE and Metric, standard and deep. No real room for ratchets and extensions !
I finally admitted to myself, the days of me doing any repairs that require 1/2" drive have passed (or are far and few between). I moved all of the 1/2" drive stuff to the back of my impact drawer in the bottom cabinet. Now that drawer is FULL ! In addition to 1/2" and 3/8" drive SAE and Metric, standard and deep impact sockets I also have my over sized (1" to 1-1/2") chrome sockets and a few large "axle nut" impact sockets.
Newbies, skip the 1/2" drive stuff unless you plan on working on 1/2 to 1 ton pickups. You just don't need it, except for lug nuts !
Oh, and don't waste your money on 3/8" impacts unless you are going to get one of those Milwaukee super stubby impacts ! Chrome is fine.
