Just a quick grab this morning before I got on the road for work.

From a small CL Estate sale ad, I picked up this 1/2 drive SO breaker bar and a 3/8”,1/2” CM ratchet, all these plus some misc cut off wheels for $15.

I love this style of the SO grips. The ratchets I keep glancing at, I really don’t need any ratchets, but out of habit I picked up the 3/8 and spun it, it’s a fine tooth and so smooth. Then I couldn’t leave it’s big brother there!

You **** on that breaker bar. I love Snap-on hard handle tools, and the pearl blue is beautiful!

CB I went from my dad's 24 T Proto, to that same pair of Craftsman RHFT, ratchets at 90T eraly in HS! I didn't know at the time they were the FT design, but I've used them for decades and still have them. (and a bunch more...)

They may not have the panache of SO, but they are great work horse ratchets!

They are actually 45 tooth with a dual pawl giving the effect of a 90 tooth but the strength of a 45 tooth. My favorite ratchet!

Pretty good day today.

Photo #1.
It started out slowly, with just four items.
Starrett tape measure
P&C 1/2" deep socket
Snap-On 1/2" combo
manifold for air hoses
$3.00 total.

Photo #2.
Quick Links
Barcalo 3/8x7/16 offset DBE
Snap-On 020 offset screwdriver.
$6.00 total.

Photo #3.
This sale had started Thursday, so it had been picked over somewhat. I did find
an older 1/2" drive speeder
C32 Craftsman 1" socket
P&C 7/16" socket
Cincinatti Tool Company #54 Super Jr. C-clamp "Heat Treated"
Plomb 3026 DOE 1/2x9/16
Blue Point feeler gauge
KD 291 Brake Bleeder Wrench DBE 1/4x3/8
Wiring pliers
Flush Cut angled sice cutters
Stamped pliers. LODI patented Sept. 25, 1894
P&C #76 punch
Long-C DBE 5/8x11/16
Vlchek DBE WBM 2422 5/8x11/16
Vlchek DBE WBM 2428 3/4x7/8
Vlchek DBE WBM 3032 15/16x1
$10.00 total.

My wife suggested I check out Stop #4, which did not advertise tools. It produced:
1/2" drive sockets:
Plomb 1"
New Britain 1-1/16"
Wright 1-1/8"
SW 1-1/8"
STW 1-1/4"
SK 3/4" deep

Plomb 5285 3/8 T-handle
Plomb 5262 Extension
Plomb 3025 DOE 7/16x1/2
Plomb 1122 DBE 3/8x7/16
Plomb Pebble DOE 3021 3/8x7/16
Plomb Pebble DOE 3027 1/2x19/32
Proto Professional 11/32 combo
Snap-On 7/16 combo
Snap-On 9/16 combo
Craftsman 3/8 to 1/4 adapter
"Alligator" stubby screwdriver, hollow-ground straight slot
Stinger pin for a receiver hitch

Photo #5 is more from Stop #4:
Powr-Kraft 1/2" drive set -
ratchet (Wright?)
6" extension
Sockets from 7/16 to 7/8, missing the 5/8.

Stop #4 cost me $10.00, total.

Photo #6 are the SW and STW sockets. They are obviously from the same manufacturer, and the markings seem to be from different eras.

I find the LODI pliers interesting. They are similar to the Sargent parallel-jaw pliers, but are not parallel-jaw.

The "Alligator screwdriver caught my eye because of the hollow-ground tip.

I rarely see Snap-On items at reasonable prices. Today was an exception.

I am 99% positive those SW and STW sockets are Stevens Walden.

Outlaw, that's interesting on the time you've had. I don't really care whether it SO or not, I just really like the handle. I bought the set of Williams screwdrivers that reproduced that handle. Thanks.

Sale down the street, I picked up the Barcalo pliers just because, and got a great deal on a Lodge cast iron skillet and casserole, and two smaller of another brand as well.

The fiancee wasted no time. I had to take a during and after picture. She said if you’re bringing home country skillets then you’re going to eat country breakast. Complete with country music, lol. She whipped up a bake with eggs, homefries, sausages, peppers and cheese. Darn good! You can see why I keep her around. :lol_hitti J/k, i love her and the cooking is an added bonus.

3bay, she is serving in the pan? I'm thinking about using 8" CI skillets, (older vintage so they are lighter) as "plates" for camp dinner. get them hot and the meal stays hot... (but if it's very many, it gets heavy... Maybe I'l "donate" one each to the 3 other guys I go with routinely and let everyone bring their own...)

Yes, served in the two pans. She didn’t want me posting any pictures but oh well it looked too good. Funny, she made a comment about how it would be hard to eat this meal on the couch. Since I’ve been picking up pans here and there she’s been enjoying using them.

I think your idea is good, BYOP.

Terrible list for going out, so I did fair considering. almost no tools, but did well for "camping"

Estate sale:

RR Spike with tiny train - I'll put this with some of the mine track samples...; Old Pump for lanterns before they started making the pumps integral, Old Glass knobs, and a polished stone that caught my eye.

attachment.php

Mini Flea and I got this SiggTourist (Sweden) nesting camp pot set with the wind deflector and pot stand - I have just that last part and two of the stoves, in my new camp box, so this will enable me to have two post safely cooking/boiling, simultaneously! These sets go for bucks on Eprey... I paid 5! (i also got a bunch of free books from the guy, but those will post on post #2 today...)

attachment.php

A second nesting set with a pair of pots and a pot gripper which doesn't "go" with these but works nicely with the Sigg Tourist set! For $2 could not turn it down!

attachment.php

Another Yard sale and I picked up a Coleman Force 5 radiant heater - two settign for 3500 or 5000 BTU - I've been wanting one of these for a while now as they have a great rep! after a quick test fire I understand why!:thumbup:

attachment.php

And a couple of Work mate bench clamps. I wasn't thinking as I should have looked for the ****** inserts! So I may go back and look, just in case... (I have one late opening YS to go hit anyway...)

And the Free books:

The one in the second pic I don't really need, but its a great primer for those that aren't experienced on a duplex outlet and basic switches...

Three stops today while out getting fascia boards for the new deck. Yielded sockets from MAC,Proto, and SK , SK 1/4 Ratchet ,misc pliers, more silverplate flatware,3lb-6oz (which may just become our daily silverware) and a silver plate I'm not sure its sterling or plate,it's heavy at 1lb-1oz but the markings on the back are pictured below and I haven't found a decoder ring. I'd like to know more before walking into a place that buys silver ,being unarmed at their mercy. Thanks in advance.

I made my first trip to the Tahoe flea this morning and was happy with the results. Xcelite set, Snap-on, Craftsman, S-K, one Plomb DOE and several miscellaneous items for my various collections.

Alinc, the hallmarks are a good sign but not proof positive its sterling,

Markings: "Sterling Silver or 925: This is the standard for silver meaning that a silver item is at least 92.5 percent silver mixed with copper to give it strength"

So a "925" indicates it IS sterling.

Another thing I look for is wear marks, and is any brass showing through? Most Silver plate is silver plated brass, and there are grades for the plating thickness as well

Today's garage sale pix to follow but $35 got me an Estwing Hatchet, a B & D mini shovel (both going in the LandCruiser permanently), 2 3D Cell Maglites, 2LPs and 50 45s (soon to go into my new CL free jukebox).

Did I bury the lead there?

I hit an estate sale, two yard sales, two flea markets, and an antique co-op today, then did some post-puppy repair work to my daughter’s newell post.
It was day two of the estate sale, and the two things I had seen in the CL ad were gone: a big olive drab parts cabinet and a red body, round glass globe Coleman lantern. The vise, as I had suspected, was a Littlestown. There was an Equipto aluminum parts cabinet, a late 1980s-looking C’man benchtop drill press, and a lot of digging implements. I found a Klein 6” adjustable wrench and was about to pay, when I spotted a box I hadn’t seen on the way in. It held a Klein linemans pliers and a Bonney B27 slipjoints of apparent Utica manufacture. Those three plus a 2-1/2’ wrecking bar were $2.
The first yardsale yielded a Reed no.10 (or 70?) pipe vise with 11Aug1914 patent date. Didn’t see the hairline crack at the base until much later, or might have resisted it. Same sale provided a Bonney 1171 combo, a Bonney B26 slipjoints, a Bonney screwstarter, a Wiss cable cutters, a Channellock slipjoints, and a 1’ steel rule, all for $10.
The second yardsale was a bust.
Jake’s flea market was winding down when I got to it, but still managed to deliver a Stanley sweetheart 1-3/4” clamp-on vise, with a broken-off clamp. I will grind the stump to approximate a mini-machinist vise. Honesty demands that I confess my greedy eyes read “LS...T” on the top line, instead of “[S...]”, so I bought it under the impression it was a LSStarrett. Haha on me. That and a little steel sockets box with a bunch of Duro/Indestro-looking medley, but one Snap-on Tee and four early 9/32dr sockets, plus a Snap-on keychain set me back $7.
I checked up on the Quakertown flea market, but it was getting warm, and I didn’t see anything arresting. I did pick up a Bonney 3/8dr long socket and a bitbrace countersink for $1. One guy tried to sell me a Bonney 3/4dr ratchet for $15, but it just didn’t grab me.
The Quaker Antiques co-op had a surprising quantity of nice old tools, but mostly priced 2-10 times beyond ridiculous. I took a few pics instead of spending money. So a nice day for $20.

over memorial day weekend I ventured north.. Sat = Jakes and Quakertown. Sun = Golden Gate and New Egypt. The theme for the weekend was "Dollar Table"
1 - an early Ideal electrical tool, a bare Plierrench, an interesting Trimo configuration. Robinson patent wrench, Charles E Hall bicycle wrench, and a Coe Wrench. $1 each except the $3 Robinson.

2 - Ok $12 for the group. two B&C, two westcott, and a Billings S adjustables

3 - 4 North Brothers, 1 Goodel, 1 unconfirmed Yankee style screwdrivers. NOT dollar table. On a tarp at 2 for a dollar.

4 - Two old BMC pliers, and early Armstrong wrench, and a pair of Worth pliers.
(it sounded like a chicken.. buck, buck, buck, buck)

5 - $15 for the group - Two Armstrong clamps and two Stearns.

6 - all $1 or less two advertising shoe horns, metal cigar box, fuller brush, Jorgenson Clamp, gout and rhuematism pills, two old vaseline bottles, Eagle lock, Lufkin tape, Ajax 'hot metal working machines' tape measure (still in business) etc

7 - Millers Falls saw, old hand cleaner, old fuses, odd clamp, flat screwdriver unmarked, unmarked wrench (sewing machine?) Caterpillar thickness gauge, odd clamp, weird spinner type brace? with square opening and thumbscrew. Starrett dividers and Browne and Sharpe plumb bob.

8 - Bowman meat saw, odd Searjet "pliers"?, Old Barcalo wrench, and a Plomb Tool Co 1/4 set box (filled with random non-plomb sockets and a husky driver) - The Plomb box was $3.

The other yard sale was nearly a dud, I did get the The Silver plate and it was was Cents Fifty.

and I did go back to look for the Workmate dog hole adapters for the clamps. No luck on that, but the deep dive did net me the box of Dremel accessories, a Fiskars knife sharpener, and the case which when I found it was half covered in oil...

attachment.php

Inside the case was this! A nice little Lithco folding magnifier stand!. Pretty High Power too! 8-10X at a guess? and a quick google says it's still available - "8X - 3/4" x 3/4" Double Glass Lens (OPT-LT3/4) ( $18.95 )" - Apparently for linen cloth inspection?

1 - paid $3 for a SK toolbox with a ratty handle in pretty good shape (no rust). When I asked the vendor said not for sale, that's just trash. Some of my small items like the vaseline jar and the fuses were inside.

2 - the decal is pretty far gone, but you can just read SK

3 - paid $5 for the pair of lamps.

4 - my last dollar item was this odd little duracolor 'animated film' on a paper roll. Something to look up. It's a kid's cartoon but nothing i recognized.

Picked up a 1947 (I think) Petty pinup calendar because I love the art. I may frame a couple. Then I paid $12 for 6 or 7 old coca cola and other soda ads cut from OLD magazines. I need to look into these.

Great trip north, I am going to have to do it again in the fall. For now, I have a very busy summer at home. Glad to see that all of you have been out and getting some amazing stuff.

I can't find any other marks on it short of an sw? 5w? MS? on an edge along with 3 microsmall dots that COULD be numbers about 11:30 to the left of the bright shiny light beam...might be nothing. There is no signs of brass ,copper/plating loss. I wished I had a better method? jeweler loupe? to actually look. And totally random the pattern on the inside of the plate seen/felt in the opposite side .Not sure if that means a damned thing.Thanks.

Anyone have a picture or list of what's missing in the fleet set for $4 could just leave it. Ratchet sure looks like a pennens I picked up awhile back.
A 6" wizard adjustable
An interesting circle v Craftsman handle

I was actually an early bird for the first time. $40. thought it was a steal. Now I am regretting it. some drawers are tough to open. One drawer where it holds the slide is cut, and the slide on the other side is damaged. One drawer on the bottom does not open at all.

Worth it for parts (if needed), but otherwise, yes you can end up with a time amd money sink on alot of the old boxes. Snap in ball bearing slides are so much easier to fix than the welded in slide channels.

As a result of moving and being without a PC for many months, this is my first post to the 2019 garage sale thread!

I could post all the stuff I gotten so far this year but I'll just jump straight to my score from today. Plomb 9990 Master tool chest picked up at a local antique mall for $40.

A couple things I left in situ at the Quaker Antiques place. The Frank Mossberg sockets caught my eye because this one had a double M-diamond stamp, but the other just had the name and address stamped on it. And then a fabulous Made In Germany hingehandle/ratchet. I don’t recognize the logo. Maybe a flying -“W?” “IWF?” The C’man adjustable was one of the mysterious “circle-Y” maker’s from the 1950s.

There were a few clutches of way overpriced wrenches like this Bonney and this Lakeside, and then outdoors (of course) a Keen Kutter branded foot-powered grinder, looks like it spent its entire existance outdoors

And then a fabulous Made In Germany ratchet. I don’t recognize the logo. Maybe a flying -“W?” “IWF?”
Fabulous is a perfect superlative for it. As you no doubt noticed, it hinges to 0*, 45* or 90*, and it is reversible, changing direction with that knurled ring around the head. A rather coarse ratchet, with only four (4) teeth, but very functional. It drives sockets and other attachments with male hex drive tangs. It was patented in Germany in 1924, and shortly thereafter here in the US, by Hans Distler of Spezial Werkzeugfabrik Feuerbach (SWF) of Stuttgart, a company that gained much renown in German and European racing circles later in life, then settled into civilian automotive accessories, supplying Mercedes and BMW with various parts. The ratchet was the centerpiece of their "ALL-IN-ONE" socket sets, imported to the US in the 1920's, in small wooden boxes. I own two (2) SWF sets and a third set that they apparently sold through a US distributor named Emil Schwarz Company in Chicago prior to the patent being granted.

I have a thread on the subject on the Vintage Board, linked here, where you can see more photos of the tools, the patent, etc, and read more details.

Welcome back, Rileysan!

Impressive hauls by the group, and nice color commentary by some of our former thread hosts.

SWMBO and I picked an estate sale on the way to another event yesterday. Actually, this sale turned out to be one of those "she picked and he carried" sales. A female household for sure, but still full of neat things. I found no tools worth acquiring, but SWMBO found a few things for the house and for yard art projects. She left the bargaining to me and I walked out with the pictured items for $20. A bit high, but the starfish is cast bronze and the plant caddy is too.

Normally, I wouldn't waste column space with non-garage-related stuff, but I'm including it as an illustration of a way to include your better halves in this picking hobby. My wife enjoys a bargain too, just not the same ones I do. Sprinkling in sales that have stuff she likes with basework workshop dives and dingy garage digs have made for many enjoyable adventures together. For us, that is. You mileage may vary....1e87c12719644a4756e329c0db2ee6b8.jpg

OP, is there a code of any sort on the other side of the hammer?

I'm assuming you got the Craftsman box? which tray did it have?
