Nice haul, Rickster.

White91, those things are so ugly they're almost pretty.

Had a few minutes to kill before an appointment yesterday so I hit the ReStore and did better than I usually do there.

Snap On deep metrics and one long C 7/16. Craftsman BE 3/8 & 1/2" breakers, and a 1/4" BE female ratchet minus the bit that goes with it. Anybody know how to open one of these up? And an unmarked 1/4" ratchet. Total $15.

I believe that your unmarked 1/4” drive ratchet was made by Walden.

Have a hard time keeping up with this thread, and the vise thread, moves crazy fast. Anyway, had a good day at the flea market today. Found a new Atlas 6" lathe, still bolted to the shipping crate, and a cool little grinding/buffing arbor. Suspect it's meant for a jeweler, has a small collet chuck as well on the end of the arbor. Found a nice Parker 973-1/2 vise, Delta 1/2 HP motor, a lathe faceplate, and a strange little torch. Seller said it was a miners torch, made to clip to a helmet. Anybody know anything about it? 6" 1/4 drive extension for scale. Oh yeah, ever see a qt. can of Simichrome Polish?

Nice score on the Parker! I have a love/hat relationship with Parker's, if they are missing parts or have bad jaws they can be money pits. Yours appears to have nice jaw teeth and has the original swivel base wrench and collar.

Yard sale score.
was rooting through the dollar box of wrenches.
Old fella says "what cha lookin for?"
Snap-on Mac or Matco says I.
He gets up out of his lawn chair & slowly heads over to the peg board on his garage wall.
I swear it took him a full minute to make the 20 feet trip like the factory workers in the movie Mouse Trap.
He shows me these two.
How much?
$5.00 the pair..... Sold!
I've never seen the high-performance series in industrial finish before.

Two sales today. First was an invite to look through the garage from a lady I bought some wrenches off last week, second sale was a second day of a huge barn/estate sale which had pictured quite a few tools. Many were gone but scattered in I found a few decent pieces. Also got a nice coffee table book of Alberto Vargas and some of his works.

I got these sockets from an estate back before there was an internet. In fact, before Al Gore even thought up the internet! It was about 35 years ago, and they have been in a drawer, confined in a Ziploc freezer bag ever since. I remembered them and dug them out to share with you folks. :)

One big garage sale today for me... retired guy downsizing and moving. Helped him out buying a bunch of stuff and lightening his load! Couple of nice Snap-on torque wrenches and a 1" wrench. Some Starrett dial indicators and an assortment of tap handles. Also a Mitutoyo in/mm dial caliper.

Not sure where to start with this sale. I may just go to gaze:https://www.estatesales.net/MI/Ann-Arbor/48103/2247705
That's not an estate sale, that's a museum liquidation!
What Boofer said! The carbines are amazing! And I have never seen so many dittyboppers (pic #110...) in my life. Workbench with ornate iron legs (pic #291) is very nice. Big vise (#366/7).

Andy - check your email please.

Does anyone know what the thing is in pic #51/52? I have seen these before. I guessed shoe rack, but it's too short.

My Friday Flea Finds...

attachment.php

Down the left hand side...

- Set of BHM DOE wrenches, dual marked with imperial and metric sizes, from 3/16" / 8mm to 1" / 25mm. Picked them out of a huge lot of rusty wrenches. Couldn't find the clip, unfortunately.

- FAIRMOUNT CLEVE. made >>>-Pierce-> DOE wrench. I think I remember these being from the bike side of the family business not the auto side. Could be wrong about that though.

- Unmarked tommy bar (because you can never have enough of them)

- Buck Bros chisel bit

- MOORE BROS PAT. marked machinists/ignition file

- STANLEY cabinet screwdriver "PAT 1,839,835"

- Extra looooong M.T. & S. (haven’t looked it up yet...) combo wrench, 5/8", with an interesting wedge-head on the box end

- Very cool NEVERSLIP (haven't looked it up yet... not yet sure if that's a mfgr's name or brand name or both...) lineman's pliers, made in New Brunswick, N.J. The cutters are replaceable!

Up the right hand side...

- Unknown pressed steel pieces (look like special purpose tools...) and no brand " ARMATURE BENDER" 14768 could be ignition-side related

- Plomb 8181 DBE

- Williams 7729 DBE

- J.P. Danielson 6" BET'R GRIP Adjustable crescent-type wrench October 1942 date code

I think you're right, 454. I was hedging my bet because neither "machinist" or "ignition" is what I was really after. Riffler is the term I was searching for, or pippin, but after looking through a 1941 American Swiss cat, I think you nailed it. I have just the place for it in my antique RUSSELL JENNINGS auger bits box! :)

Picked up this Craftsman set today on the 301 Endless Yardsale, before I got cut short.

Looking forward to what JoCo posts up...it's closer to him, but I bet he has some treasures to report.

Outlaw, you might be right about that 2/32 punch starting life as something else.

Came across a Plomb 5295 box at a garage sale today, but more than half the tools in it weren't Plomb.

Seller said it was okay to remove the non-Plomb items and we would make a deal on the Plomb 5295 box and Plomb tools.

Got the following Plomb tool items:

5280 5265 5249 4749 4785 5262 5260 5224 5222 5220 5218 5216

5214 5212 5270 4712 4710 4711 4708 4707 and a Plomb hammer

Hit one garage sale yesterday and two estate sales today
The garage sale netted the following:

Two Armstrong tappet wrenches, P&C and SK sockets, Millers Falls push drill and a Proto LA wrench. $2
First Estate sale was right around the corner from me and was family run. Picked up the following:

Three brace bit files, Proto socket, Snap-on stud puller and a C.A. Myers sewing awl kit, in box with directions. No zip code on it. $4 for everything.
The other estate sale was run by a company I don't really like, they are usually to expensive and tend to put things in lots that don't really work for me. But the pics showed a Snap-on triple bank and lots of sorted tools. So I said what the heck, but waited out the rush and went in a couple hours after it started. Holy Cow! There was a ton of tools, guns, Matchbox and Hot Wheels, and the prices weren't bad for once. This is what I picked up:

PowrKraft socket set, Snap-on terminal block set, Stanley saw set in box with papers, Fulton ignition pliers set (one missing but had been replaced by Vacuum Grips), Snap-on TML70A, Starrett 174 tap wrench, Craftsman RHFT flex, and a Fairmont body spoon. First day, morning price of $42.

GPW, are you thinking the top one is a warranty replacement? Noticed the rest are hexagonal or octogonal, with the top being square. I have a larger pouch I bought empty, still need to find out what it had in it.

I didn't even bother with a pic this time: $3 at a Friday Estate sale got me A Vegetable Steamer "Basket" (camping) a partial box of old school "strike anywhere" matches, A (retro/newish) wood box with 1903 Crayola markings, and an oven thermometer (Camping - for the Coleman oven...), and two different colored wash clothes (again Camping - I'm using these as "hand towels", and want enough in different colors for everyone in camp to have one of their own... - Hygiene...)

Cruzan, that makes as much sense as anything else, at least to me.

The '49 Craftsman mechanics catalog is the earliest I see, and in it they're advertising for punches and chisels having square shanks, "to prevent rolling when dropped" see pg. 24 and 25 of the .pdf here: http://www.blackburntools.com/artic...ives/sears/pdfs/sears-craftsman-1949-mech.pdf However, that's post-long C era, so???

I don't know of any earlier Craftsman catalogs in the public domain...hopefully someone will provide a link to 1940/41 or 30s.

Lugz,
Every Pierce Arrow tool I’ve found has gone for decent money on eBay. Just sayin’.
We hit an estate sale this morning in Zephyr Cove, NV and found a few tools. It was amusing to find a Walden set that has recently been discussed on the Vintage tool forum. The S-K wrench went into my regular toolbox next to it’s brothers and the VW jack is for my neighbor.

Based on my examples, they come in different shapes. Rileysan could probably pin down the dates.

And the thing above it probably isn't a chisel with the end intended for a brace. Tapered reamer?
I can't tell because the end has been grinded on, p, and the tip is broken off, but yeah, that made me think twice. The only Buck Bros stuff I have seen has been later, chisels, with integral handles. I dunno. EDIT: You tell me...

HA! Oak_park, I'm going to have to "forget" I read that. The local Sears Hometown has changed hands a couple times, and may not be long for this world.

From a couple sales this morning:

Craftsman long C auger bit set
Snap set and snaps
Aluminum Lufkin folding rule
S-K 9/16 combination wrench
Craftsman vise grips
Couple C-clamps
Malco hand notcher
Sanding Block
PB Blaster and loaf pan from the free pile
$15 total

18" wide card drawer
Roll of 7" flashing
$5.50

Think the find of the day was one my Dad snuck out from under me. Proto/Vogel "Double Duty" Ratchet. 50 cents.

Here's the 1942 Craftsman Hand Tools catalog, chisels are on page 26 and 27 and appear to be square shank. https://lookaside.fbsbx.com/file/19...dA8-hHb7hJ4aK88mn0DkHC3XG3LrMu7cA9RWhMUDtcYtA

Well today was a fun adventure. Went and bought this old Tug up in Salisbury,NH. Turns out it is a WW2 era Clarktor 6 Tug. The most shocking thing is that it can tow 90 Tons on flat ground!:shocking:

90 tons (180,00 pounds) is not much in the big aircraft world, an empty B-52 bomber is 185,00 pounds. If that is WWII let's see what aircraft of that era weighed.

P-51 Mustang max load. 12,100 pounds

B-17 Flying Fortress max load. 65,000 pounds

B-29 Superfortress max combat load. 135,000 pounds.

B-36 Peacemaker, prototype built during WWII, combat weight 262,500, max takeoff 410,000 pounds.

So other than a B-36 this tug could haul pretty much any WWII airplane!
