This morning, filled with ambition to use an expired rattle can of Rustoleum Hammered Light Blue, I cleaned up the Craftsman 65161 carry box I bought yesterday, and gave it a facelift. My first time using this paint in spray, rather than brush-on type.
I wasn’t going to spray the interior, but then I thought, “oh, why the hell not?” The initial results were very cool, though I think it had not aged well, because there were a lot of glob-depositing sputters. The second coat, held a little further away, resulted in something more like a crinkle finish than hammered.
So my 1-can advice is: if you want crinkle, keep your distance for both coats; if you want hammered, keep a close distance, at least on the second coat. Either way, seems like a lot of pinholes.
Now I wonder what would happen if you topcoated a flat base layer with thus stuff?

Looks pretty good from here LS. Is it missing the handle? If so what will you replace it with?

Picked up this GA14 Baldor grinder stand at an auction this past weekend for two dollars. Doesn't look like it has ever been used as grinder stand to me. I just need to put it on wheels and I will replace my current stand with it.

This is why I still stop at a flea market in my area that others scoff at. Sure, I come up empty quite often. But everyone once in awhile something interesting turns up. This early valve lifter has no markings other than a branding "LANCASTER LIFTER" (with the "L" and "R" shared by both words) and "PAT APPD FOR." Too much of a coincidence for it to be anything but K-D Mfg, which made its first famous valve lifter in 1919 and called Lancaster, PA, home. The interesting part is that this is not the design they patented (1,330,542), and I haven't yet found a patent for this design on DATAMP or anywhere else, or any other references to the brand name.

Railroad collectors are everywhere and railroad keys command a healthy premium. Right up there with signal lanterns.

Ha, Lugz: I’m sitting at the new Wegmans in Lancaster right now. It’s been a grueling day on the road. After dropping daughter#3 off at work at 10am, I headed toward Leesport PA to check out the flea market there, which I had only second-hand reports. It’s good - I’ll be back, at least on Wednesdays, maybe try their 1st & 3rd Sundays.
But getting there wasn’t easy today - I headed south on rt222 and got stuck in road closures immediately; even the detours had detours! Maybe should have taken rt78.
Got to the flea as some vendors were packing up after 11:30, and immediately scored a 3-footed iron pedestal. Looks old, maybe not as old as the vendor suggested, but old. He said it came from his family’s place in Sullivan Co PA, but also that he was born and raised in CA.:headscrat Too much detail for me. $20.
Another vendor had a pair of Parker Tool Co slipjoints and two Bonney sockets. $5. He actually had a lot of wrenches, ratchets, and sockets, mostly Cman, but I passed for now. Another vendor had a Bonney Full Polish / LocRite 3/4” combo for $1. So far, so good. Then I messed up and bought a USB cable, because the one I keep in the car is busted. So is this one. $3.
So I stopped at Wmart and got another one. $5.50
And Arbys for a sandwich. $5.50
More lane closures...
And now I’m waiting to meet my son after his shift is up.

Picked up these goodies (and duds) yesterday at a local pawn shop and a thrift store:

100' 12ga. extension cord, $20 on Facebook marketplace...(not pictured).
SnapOn 02024 5/8 x 3/4 DOE
SnapOn 02428 7/8 x 3/4 DOE
Blackhawk BW164H 5/8 Combo wrench
P&C 6021 21/32" socket, 1/2" dr.
P&C 6040 1-1/4" socket, 1/2" dr.
None of which fit my main collecting interest (WW2 GI), but the SnapOn just looks cool, IMO. I screwed up last year and let a P&C deep socket set, in the case, get past. That's been haunting me ever since, and I see enough P&C sockets around to be able to slowly assemble a set.

Duds
- Pretenders CD. It was a decent little experiment, but there's a reason I really only like one of their songs. Destined for the bin.
- Risky Business. Sloooooow movie, much better in my memory than in "real time."

Local thrift store.

Two "Wards Master Quality" four drawer metal parts storage cabinets (is that the correct name?). They are 6x6x8in, six drawers have three dividers and two are no dividers. Original paint is great, no rust just some wear. A few drawers are a bit wonky, but fit well still. They were $1.99 each (regular price).

Also got this great ISI whip-cream maker. It is new unused, all the parts are there and it has the instruction book. The check out girl kept asking me if i was a senior, I said no, but she gave me half off anyway! so $2.00. I want to try to make whipped BBQ sauce and also cheese wiz!

EEEOOWW!
Put some kind of base on it to spread the casters out at least a few inches in all directions!! Even bed frame angle iron would work!

4th of July Flea Market Finds!

attachment.php

Normally I wouldn't go out on a 4th of July morning, but, this year it happens to coincide with my Thursday flea market, and, my wife is stretching a college drop-off weekend (my daughter is a D1 athlete and everyone on the team takes one (1) 3-credit course in the summer) into a college drop-off week. So, I hit the road early.

Almost immediately ran into a guy selling his grandfather's tools. He worked for a crane outfit in Northeast Philly and passed away 10 years ago. There were several carry boxes, a roller, and a top box filled with stuff. He favored Snap-on, Cornwell, and Proto. You could see how he had replaced stuff as he went and most of the stuff was 50's or later. I have never seen so many angle or crowfoot wrenches in one place, but it was mainly 60's. There was a lot more earlier stuff than what I grabbed, but I didn't need it.

The large Snap-on socket box was filled with 3/4-inch drive stuff but it was miscellaneous brands and only a few Snap-on pieces, all postwar. So I asked him if he'd sell just the box. The 9/32-inch drive midget set was in a roller drawer. It is near-complete and wartime, but filthy with grime and rust.

attachment.php

The only Snappy stuff I snagged were a couple more uncommon Bluepoints (in the middle compartment) and a 1945 Ferret socket and Ferret palm ratchet (upper right corner).

The swivel sockets and the elbow socket are Cornwell as is the stud remover set in the red box.

I grabbed the Pebble Proto flare nut wrenches for d42jeep.

The oddball wrenches in that top compartment were from a different vendor - I just threw them in the box for carrying.

I will post close-ups and info in brand-pertinent threads.

Pickins were slim at a July 4th Lancaster Neighborhood Yard Sale.
Spent a buck & got a 39cent rat trap, a Schollhorn pliers, & this "oversized Italian coke spoon".
Anybody know what this is?
Maybe for pipe smokers? Cleaning rod, tamper, & whatnot?

Lugz, thanks for the pebbles. Those are big ones!
We went to the one garage sale that mentioned tools in S Lake Tahoe this morning and found a few worthwhile items and a lot of discards. The Craftsman box with tools inside was sold as a lot. There was a pre release pair of vise grips, Pexto lineman’s pliers and a pair of Dunlap Circle Y groove joint pliers.

Nice grabs, Lugz, 3jakes and Don. I'm up on my porch roof today, repairing rotted sheathing from flashing leaks around the chimney. It stinks fixing your own work, but it's better than thinking of some future professional pulling it apart and saying "What ***** did this work?!?"417bdb41eaa4fd8a64f23f929c8d6493.jpg

Here's my only find from last week. I went to a sale last minute on Sunday evening. There were lots of little piles of tools everywhere in various five gallon buckets, tool chests, boxes, etc. Even though it was the last day of the sale, it looked like nobody had even picked through anything. I picked out a handful of tools and found an old Snap-on top chest. I paid $30 for the tool box, all the tools inside it, plus the handful of stuff I picked out from other areas of the sale.

48198897432_7fbecf66c7_c.jpg

It's a little beat up and it's been repainted at some point but most of the drawers slide really easily. I might take it apart and run some paraffin wax over the slides. I'll probably use this box to store tools that I have listed for sale.

Anyone know the approximate age? I can't find anything stamped on the back.

48198897697_5027563ba4_c.jpg

Here's all the tools after I sorted them all and threw out all the junk unbranded Chinese sockets.

Snap-on up first.
3/8" wrench
11/16 Par-X wrench
1/2" extension
Octo-grip cutters
5/8" depimpact socket
11/16" deep socket
3/4" swivel socket
a really old Blue Point magnetic pickup tool
a Weatherhead fitting socket
13/16" socket
9/32" socket
5/16" socket
Blue Point 9/16" & 5/8" DBE
Industrial finish 9/16" wrench
two crows foot flare line sockets

48198897702_61c12fbbc7_c.jpg

A few items from Williams

48198897592_2d2622e67c_c.jpg

A small assortment of Craftsman. The long C short DBE is pretty cool.

48198897737_355f70aaf9_c.jpg

A few wrenches from MAC and some miscelanious pieces from Herbrand, Blackhawk, Indestro, Thorsen, Armstrong, and a cool little screwdriver with wood inlay that was made in Germany

48198897782_f84f8395d2_c.jpg

Last of all is the Proto/PLOMB. The top divider has an adjustable wrench from Proto of Canada, second divider is Proto, and the third is all PLOMB.

48198897732_e66aed969c_c.jpg

Also included but not pictured were a load of Nicholson and Arcade files, and a few S-K sockets.

Yes, that's a pipe tool, sometimes called a "Czech" tool because that's where a lot of them used to come from.

Not a pipe smoker myself, but I think you’re right. The spoony thing could scrape the bowl out.

I'd been wanting one of these for a while. Finally got a Williams NM110 in a midget electrical set from lugz. However it is covered in cosmoline and staying that way. I wanted another for a user, and got this on eBay for cheap.

Armstrong USA Armaloy NM110 in very good shape. Happy 4th everyone!

Nice deal!
This looks like 1956-1965
Look at the left side left lower corner - there should be a stamp there with the model and a year.
Correction: back panel right lower corner

I have same KRA58B from 1963

Happy 4th of July!

Do not miss the fireworks!!!

Here are some of my new findings from last week

Toolbox - I was just driving down the road and saw laying on the curb next to a trash can in the middle of rush hour traffic. Returned in 10 minutes and it was still there. It looks like the date is 11 83, but not sure - 8 is a little weak...

Addendum - everything in first question is free as well.
Toolbox came with few tools, still need to clean some of them prior to posting

That is very cool looking. I need to find one.

They are very neat. I've seen them branded Williams, Armstrong, and Walden. I think Plomb made one too. I believe they all have female drive on the grip end.

In the picture, see how there are little half round notches on the handle that fit on the pins? There is a ball detent that holds the handle in the locked position to use as a spinner. Pull it back about 1/4 inch and it freewheels, so you can use it as a spinning grip extension. There are also 9/32 versions, so be careful on used market.
