Outlaw, I remember you picking up a toolbox with a KOME sticker 4-5 years ago. I used to have one on my car side window in the late 80s. No idea why, as I am not from there.

I got a set of Wright 12 point 1/2 inch drive standard and deep sockets. I also got some Wright, Mac, and Proto extensions. The ratchets are Proto and Westcraft. The torque wrench is a Proto 250 lb/ft. I also got a few Snap On and Mac sockets along with a Snap On transmission snap ring plier set. The speed wrench is made by Wright. All for $80

We usually follow a route starting with best potential to lowest potential based on ads. The "best" were a bust but with a stroke of serendipity, the lowest turned out to be the best.

A 12x18x3 granite surface plate was $5 and all the stuff on it was around $15. I'm not sure what that thick brass "cerial" bowl was used for.

This Unimat has a unique power feed feature. (for threading) It comes mounted on a cabinet with 8 drawers full of accessories and tooling. Some light surface rust but runs great $30.

Leica Stereo Microscope components. It's almost all there except for stand and objective lens and includes and extra magnification pod and video port. Only $10.

The owner said all his boat's navigation electronics were stolen but they left this Garmin radar unit that looks like new. $50

The tools I found were maybe a little older than my neighbor’s. The first picture is everything, the second Powr-Kraft. Next is the Snap-on and =v= Craftsman. The last is mostly pre-war
S-K.

When I got home the first thing I checked was if a Harbor Freight parts case would fit on the shelves, but they're just a little bit too big. I'll still be able to put it to good use for storing something. Another thought is it wouldn't be too hard to put some fronts on the shelves to turn them into drawers.

Maybe Plano trays would fit? :dunno:

After watching and attending estate sales in my area for literally years without finding a single Craftsman RHFT ratchet in any drive size or configuration, I hit the jackpot today. Couldn’t believe what I saw in one of the pre-sale pics (attached). There were two 1/2” drive RHFT flex heads. ($10 each), two 1/2” drive RHFT regular ratchets ($8 each) one 3/8” drive RHFT flex head ($5), and one 3/8” drive RHFT regular ratchet ($4). Got to the sale an hour before they handed out the early bird numbers and even then there was a line of people waiting. Ended up with number 14 spot to get in. When they opened the door at 8:30 I was in the “first wave” of numbers allowed in. I headed straight for the garage. Quickly scooped up all six of the RHFT ratchets, and four pairs of Petersen Vise Grips (I’ve learned the hard way to scoop first and examine things only after they are in your shopping bag). The other “tool hounds” were right on my heels, but I had about a 15 second head start on them which was all I needed to clean up. Headed home very happy a few minutes later.

As others have mentioned,well...YOU ****!!! Nice score

Decent day for not expecting much. A single street sale turned out to be a multiple street sale sponsored by a real estate co. That more than made up for the two "no shows"

A craftsman Vise (3-1/2 Made in Japan), A plane, 2 C clamps (wing is Willians, the other Adjustable) for $5

attachment.php

Outlaw that looks to be a Stanley No.10 ,or similar. Cleaned up ,and if not broken at the mouth should be a good investment.

The Brass Bowl = mortise and (Missing) pestle

I think the power feed is just that, power feed. For threading you have to be able to lock the rotation of the chuck to the power feed screw, and every thread pitch has a different set of gears to adjust the feed speed. - So did it some with a box full of gears? :dunno:

but I agree - $30 = Usuck)

So today was a big and little day . . .

I found a small pair of pliers at an Estate Sale that was JAM-PACKED with stuff.

I found a 12" pair of Caframa Shears at a second Estate sale. Both items cost me a total of $5.00.

Cheers

Jim

Just gonna hand out a unit "You ****!" citation for you guys this wknd.

3jakes for his Snap On haul

Silverdeck for that entire herd of RHFT unicorns

Floyd for a $125 dirt bike

P7M8 for his haul

And DaveFR for a $30 Unimat.

Struck out at the flea market this morning, but went to a "fire/estate" sale of tools. Apparently a shop had an electrical fire and the owner passed before he could finish building the new shop.

I was able to pick up the following plus a full tank of propane (not shown) for $20.

2c1f812f52e692db66fc62ba54fb517e.jpg

All CM =V=, Klein strippers, Petersen 8R
86c94b6fbbf9e4b2d155845ccde57921.jpg

Fluke 322 clamp meter, CL 420, and a complete set of Snap On 1/2" drive 1 1/8 - 7/16 (minus the 1/2") and a few extras. The chrome on some have seen better days, but at .25 each, who cares. 8e3fba723cc27b04746855ba599844ab.jpg

Yeah, that station has been gone for years. A guy I went to HS with worked there doe a bit. He was lobbying to bring it back (it was the most popular station in the area; then they were bought and the new owners killed it..)

Nice deal Boofer. Looking good this week there guys.

Had a good day at the flea. I brought home a rough old Snap On top box with assorted tools, some minor goodies in there. I didn’t get into it yet because I bought a number of other tools!

Assortment of old USA wrenches. Some Proto LA, Plomb, Lectrolite, Snap On, Mac, Blackhawk-Armstrong, Blue Point, Cornwell, Jacobs, Wright, New Britain, Williams, Thorsen, Billings.

Funny, I commented on CBacres’ self-adjusting Reed the other day, so I had to grab this one for 5 bucks when I saw it. It’s a cool wrench.

Versa Wrench- another self adjusting.

Utica 4” adjustable.

Barcalo Lineman pliers.

Husky 1/2” ratchet

ProAmerica socket

Snap On screwdriver and extension.

I ran into a retired plumber getting rid of some tools there.

I scooped up his nice Armstrong wrenches- some metric some standard, a Craftsman and Challenger, the Channellocks, a rusty Blue Point pin spanner wrench, Edit: and a Snap On 1/4” hog ring extension.

Then i ran into an old timer selling off his tools. Picked up the ratchets, a 1/2” Craftsman rhft and 1/4 pear head, 1/4 Powerbuilt, Snap On phillips, 4 Craftsman saltus wrenches, and a pair of cutters made in Germany marked VC & Co. Apparently it stands for Vom Cleff & Co. but it’s hard to read. Also, a nice set of Ridgid drivers.

I followed the advice posted here by someone to look inside of the cheap ratchet sets. Japanese sockets with a nice 3/8 sk ratchet. I guess the cheap ones are prone to breakage.

Very cool, 3bay. Maybe you already figured this, but it looks to me like that "&" marking that we normally consider an ampersand is probably a clef marking in this case, from archaic French, meaning "key", and spelt clé, as in the musical symbol used to indicate the pitch of notes. You find them at the beginning of a line on sheet music. Looks to me like it might be a logo and a riff on the company's last name, Cleff.

I did the same thing and found an SK ratchet a few months ago. I talked the guy into just selling me the ratchet and he swapped it out for a no-name ratchet in the set. I think I paid $2 for the ratchet.

Wow, does that bring back memories! About [classified number] years ago I worked in the university machine shop. The first machine I used was the Unimat's bigger brother, the Maximat. Great fun, and a huge learning experience. I got to use a huge LeBlond lathe, but the head machinist wouldn't let me touch his Clausing.

Not a used tool guy, but I did buy a pair of Vise Grips today.

Also picked a box for a buck, some pointy thing, a tin gun oil can, and a spinning baby food jar holder. And a pig.

Yes it's a Junior Hospo=Lite. There are directions on how to use the light, hand held or in the holder. Of coarse the holder is missing.

Got some tools in pretty dirty/rusty state last weekend - will post once clean them up (can not even see names on some; might take some time as work got busy)

Today found there 3 on a yard sale on the way to work. Snap On is STMM10, 1988

$1

… Interestingly enough - found $1 bill and some coins in the free tools from last weekend, put it in the wallet today on the way to work. This is the one that got used : )

Saturday, I loaded my father, daughter no2 and her boyfriend into the LesserMobile and drove two hours to the Montezuma / Rt90 / 50-mile yard sale in the beautiful Finger Lakes of New York. The day was sunny, with the temperature starting in the sixties, but quickly climbing into the eighties. I think this was my fourth year of attendance.
It was a pleasant day, but I was underwhelmed by the fare. Several places along the route that had been super productive in past years were in decline. One place was in the midst of a whole-house clean-out, so that one is done. And somehow I missed the turn-off to a multigenerational pickers’ barn, that has never failed me. So about halfway through, with all three passengers nodding off, I pulled the plug and headed for the Troy (PA) Fair, where Mrs LesserSon and daughter no3 met us. $8 to get in (with unlimited rides), $7 sandwich, $7 fries, $5 milkshake. Mrs LesserSon took half our party to the demolition derby; I watched a pig race, then home.
Anyhow, $10.25 spent at the 50-mile sale, a few interesting conversations. $8 of that was at one guy’s place. He told me several times he was eighty and just getting rid of all his stuff (half USA, half Chinesium, all of which had marinaded in a rainwater-full Builders Square box, colonized by long-departed mud-daubers). I guess the highlight for me is the working hand-held Dremmel rotary tool. Two years ago at the same event (different house), I bought a True Value / Master Mechanic-branded one which worked beautifully until it didn’t. I still have the tips. So back in business. And a bit of C’man Crowntop stuff. My favorite single piece, though, was the Mossberg hex drive extension & socket, with a hang tag carefully-penned $.10.

Maybe but I can't find anything like it.

I think the power feed is just that, power feed. For threading you have to be able to lock the rotation of the chuck to the power feed screw, and every thread pitch has a different set of gears to adjust the feed speed. - So did it some with a box full of gears? :dunno:

Yes, It came with a bunch of threaded drums each stamped with a number. There are corresponding small inserts. It also has these gears that look like they attach to the drums. I assumed this was for threading but it's just a theory.

Yesterday was the Oregon Steam Up! swap meet. It runs this weekend and next, so yesterday was first-day pricing. I mostly stayed on the dollar tables, but there sure was some nice and rare things out for sale. I did splurge on one thing though:

Triplett 310 that needs the battery compartment cleaned up, Williams ratchet, Proto LA #3, Armstrong extension, Proto and Hinsdale sockets (.50 each), Proto LA socket box, P&C articulating drill (the splurge an $18) geometric C chisel handle and a couple of Starrett boxes. Also got so see a bunch of old steam tractors running around along with acres of John Deeres, Massy's and every other old tractor and small engine you can think of.

I'm not sure what that thick brass "cerial" bowl was used for.

Davefr - maybe it is a new age Tibetan singing bowl? but it seems not very decorated for that?

or like Outlaw suggests, a mortar. I have worked in environmantal laboratories that had many different types of mortar&pestles. Each was for a different sample matrix and preparation need. i.e. stone vs metal, you try to not introduce any contaminates from the mortar into the sample. Example, in the mining exploration lab I worked at, we used "chrome free" steel bowls so that no chromium was introduced into the ore sample from the prep.

Yours might have had a rubber or leather ring/pad to rest on while using. It also does not show much wear on it? Like it wasn't used much.

FYI I did see one website where they sell a bronze mortar&pestal for $1200...

They won't win any beauty contests. But I just picked up this set of SK raised panel SAE 12 pt combos. 10 pcs, 11/16" thru 1-1/4" plus a 7/16" 6 point combo...for the princely sum of $20...off Letgo, no less!

All CM =V=, Klein strippers, Petersen 8R

Fluke 322 clamp meter, CL 420, and a complete set of Snap On 1/2" drive 1 1/8 - 7/16 (minus the 1/2") and a few extras. The chrome on some have seen better days, but at .25 each, who cares. 8e3fba723cc27b04746855ba599844ab.jpg

You got all that including the long handled craftsman and the Klein meter for $20? Now who *****?!!!

Didnt find much but the quality was good!
Hargrave 10" clamp
Drill bit index with a brass top, marked by gauge size.

Outlawmws;7999155 First stop was interesting as they had the tripod thing I believe is a tripod base for a drummers seat? I may cobble up a seat for camping/Fishing... [QUOTE said:
If that is from a drum stand, likely it's lightweight. I would not trust sitting on it.
I have a set of congas for my son and it if gets knocked over, something beaks every time.

It could be for a seat, but I think it's more likely the base for a snare drum stand or cymbal stand.

Not flimsy at all and I just stood on the post an sort of bounced some weight in it and VERY strong.

Then I noticed this:

So definitely a seat stand as designed and intended:
