You wandered into the wrong building! This is place is full of pushers and bootleggers! (ABANDON HOPE, ALL YE WHO ENTER HERE!)

I slipped out to an estate sale just after opening, and watched one of the regular sharks leaving empty handed. (I've seen this guy get kicked out of one estate sale!)

I did well! - Mostly camping related...

A couple pf reel cranks, NOS strike signal for fishing, a pole clamp for I think 3/4" and the oddest fishing pole I've ever seen?

A Daiwa Polyester Silver collapsible fishing pole - 18-1/2" closed, nearly 12 feet extended, and NO eyes! only a nub on the tip (so you tie the line to the end? :dunno: even with the toy fly reel, it weighs all of 1/2 lb, so maybe for back packing? :headscrat

A tank for a 1968 Coleman stove,

attachment.php

Chef Trays for a Coleman stove! The Clip onto the side and supports socket into the bottom side edge. You won't believe what these go for on Eprey! I've been wanting some for a while just to try, but not for stupid $$!

attachment.php

A stove stand! I needed one more for the overnight setup so I didn't have to dig one out of the tent trailer! Tag is marked Patent pending" so I'l have to check the others!

attachment.php

A couple of pieces of hardwood, - I think its walnut?

attachment.php

And a lantern stand! It should be close to 6 ft stuck on the stake in the ground or, how high do you want it clamped to a table; and the Clamp! So many Forest Service table tops are super thick (concrete) these days!

They are probably dated on the bottom, if you're interested in that.

Lugz. loving your new purse, er, map case! (Yes, I want one..)
Haha! I wish it had a satchel-length strap. It has a very short strap, meant for same-side shoulder carry, which confirms the actual purpose the various pockets etc reveal, carrying maps, passports, brochures, and other travel stuff pressed between ones body and an arm. The zipper is "USA" and I found the FRYE stamp when cleaning it (lifelong Neatsfoot man...). I am not terribly disappointed. It is vintage and it will still make a good prop hanging off the handle bars of the B.S.A. at a show! :)

Estate sale this morning. Everyone was there for a huge Wilton bullet vise but they had it priced over $200. Nobody even gave this little Wilton a second glance so I had to grab it for the $40 asking price.

Below was my only haul in the last few weeks.... The makita belt sander was a deal... But I like the Lockheed and Rolls Royce aircraft parts plates the most... Look good in the "shop" [emoji6]

Buuut Big News is work are sending me to the USA.. Tomorrow... For two weeks!!!!
So I've got this weekend in Houston, TX

Blackhawk ratchet and 1/2" socket, the obstruction wrench is Billings, and stubby is a no name. Plus the tape dispenser $4 all

attachment.php

another $4 for the lures and 2 50 ft poly ropes

attachment.php

Ten bucks for two Carlisle trailer tires. (there is another one under that one)

attachment.php

And the TOO's on a second run for late posters, (oner of which was a no show...) Click rings, and a OLD Huot index with some of the Morse drills

attachment.php

Not much left of the Decal!

Hello all,

I bought this, at an estate sale for $10.00, and now I need a motorcycle lift. Maybe, this will give me the inspiration, to reassemble the cases, for my 1987 Husqvarna 430 XC.

Does anybody know the manufacturer?

Bob

Good score on the camping stuff Outlaw. The side trays and stand are a good find. Your Coleman stove tank and generator looks pristine. I cleaned my newly acquired 425E last night and the tank contained a few spoonfuls of chunky powered rust. I completely disassembled it and cleaned it well (stopping short of pouring a cup of BBs inside and shaking the tank to scour the insides...I just used some simple green soaks with vigorous shaking and a couple of flushes with alcohol/fuel to help it dry). I’ll test it out after I pull the stove chassis out of an Evaporust bath.

Sailing is sure slowing down around here.

I found some oddball stuff for $20.

A Freiz Barometer?? It looks like a chart recorder missing the paper drum but I don't see a motor so not sure how it records.

A large mobile Flight Simulator/Training setup. I wonder if it's WWII era??

Very old Dremel kit. Might be first model.

Nice finds, everyone!
This morning MrsLS hauled a van-load of our extraneous clutter to sell at a community yard sale, while I prowled a few other ones. She netted $72 and donated what remained to charity.
$5 netted me an area tree farm advertising screwdriver, a Bridgeport wood-handled multitool, two Bridgeport nutdrivers, a Utica 50-6 linesman pliers, and an older 3-diamonds Utica end-nippers.

Thx BHK!

The last fount I had that has that much rust developed a hole as I was shaking the crud out - a 242 that got transplanted onto a brass Canadian 200A fount.

I used Evaporust in the >95 YO KampKook Model 3 tank.

I'm really happy to have gotten the chef trays! Hard to find or expensive on Eprey...

That's my 4th aluminum stand, but 3 are in the Eagle tent trailer permanently and not convenient to grab for a trip without the trailer. I'd like to get one more so I have one for a table and one for the cooler chest on the "overnight" trips...

That first one is a barograph. It's missing the drum that holds the graph paper.

With winter moving in saling is slowing down here. Only a few sales today. Lots of friday sales which makes it hard for the working man. My dad hit up a sale yesterday and the guy wouldnt wheel and deal on any of his tools. Not knowing this I went there today and he gave me the whole lot for $100. 99% Craftsman USA with a few Plomb,Proto, Blackhawk, Champion, and Thorsen mixed in. All the batteries for the drill are toast, but the charger and drill work. I'm not sure why he had so many repeats, theres 31 sets of 3/8 SAE shallow sockets to 13/16". Toolbox is cool as well.

This guy has a good video series on how to restore old Coleman stoves. I found it helpful. This is the section on the tank/generator:

EDIT: I lied, it has a micro leak from rust by a seam. I scrubbed it with a brass brush to get a getter look and it turned into a macro-leak. Hmft! Now to figure out a repair...

DaveFR, there are older kits than that Dremel, they come in a wooden case. They are referred to as model 1. I can't link the Photobucket pic, but you can google it.

15 dollar restore haul - Hold-E-Zee, Vaco, Enderes and 4 in 1 Jamestown screwdrivers; neat old hammer - no marks, maybe shop-made?; 6" adjustable marked Harrold Tool Co; Schlage deadbolt cylinder; brand new cable ties. Also got 2 containers of stripped screw remover and a can of contact cleaner for work.

Stopped at a yard sale earlier that was a 20 footer... looked promising from the street, lots of tools; however, most of it was junk. Still managed to find a few things, and only $7.

"L.S.S. CO. ATHOL, MASS. U.S.A. 1 IN. STD."
If you ever see one of these little discs for cheap that isn't rusty or beat up, buy it. Starrett 1" micrometer standard. Other brands made them too. Check it to a known good 1" gage block, but in my experience if it doesn't look abused, it is probably good.

Cleveland Twist Drill USA 6 pc Ezyout set. I think these are the same Irwin/Hanson that everyone else rebrands.

Finally, a Greenfield Tap & Die 14" pipe wrench. This is a wall hanger, not a user.

Couple things while out today.

1. Old metal commercial wall hanging light box. Works perfectly. Not sure what it was originally used for. Maybe photography related or medical.

2. Craftsman ratcheting screw driver with extra bits in the handle. Craftsman and WF markings on the handle sides.

I'll restore and modify the light box to lay on a table.

You can use similar boxes to review X-rays (old style film ones)

One of those weekends that you do more driving than finding. Oh well, it is bound to happen once in a while. I must of hit a dozen estates sales and garage sales. But the place I did best was the Restore.

Restore on Friday, Proto 12" adjustable, Williams socket and small Diamond linesman dykes. $2.50
And here are all of my Saturday finds:

Sharpening system, Snap-on Octogrip spinner, P&C and Hinsdale deep sockets, Duro ratchet, and P&C wrench. There were two Snap-on sockets but I forgot them in my truck. $9 from both an ES and Restore. Also found these at a thrift store:
20190928_145617 by Aaron Warfield, on Flickr
I had been looking for a nice matched set of these for a while, so it was a nice find. $6.

Is there any way to get at the leaky part from the inside? Maybe some epoxy putty?

DaveFR, based on the form factor of the instruments, especially the colored speed ranges on the airspeed indicator, I would date the flight training materials no earlier than the 1960's, and probably 70's or later. Civilian, too.

Not possible to access the inside. I’m going to try to JB weld it from the outside. Don’t try this at home. It’s a pressurized tank, thus if the fix fails, I’ll have pressurized gas spraying out in a nice misty streak 1 foot from a flame...a massive fire/burn hazard. Most stove forums recommend NOT trying to fix a hole like this, but many have made successful repairs. Not sure of how many later died in burn units.

Some have “tinned” a patch on the inside of other models (which have ends that can be heated to remove the end cap solder) or screwed in a screw in the hole. Some have had success with pouring some POR15 inside and letting it set as a inside sealant but POR15 is designed for non-pressurized gas tanks, plus it might accidentally seal the check valve in the fuel pump well nearby. I’ll read up on it and maybe experiment with a torch and silver solder, but I’ve never done that before.

This is the hole after brushing it gently with a brass brush. Where there is a mouse, there are mice. Where there is a rust pinhole, there are others nearby even if you can’t see them. And sure enough, just brushing it gently revealed another smaller one in another spot.

Big oneb6e077ca2b4ff3962bfe72c2d0eac68d.jpg

2nd small one2f292e6b8ab3572f62d7e57c4620bf41.jpg

The big one was invisible initially, and the stove pressurized and ran just just fine. I only noticed it after leaving it fully pressurized overnight and saw a small “dew drop” of gas on the seam in the morning, thus the leak was minute, extremely slow, and virtually unnoticeable. So, I wiped it off and repositioned the tank, and a while later it reformed. Kind of scary to think it could have failed unexpected in the future as the rust pinhole fatigued. At least now I will watch it like a hawk, but still I’m taking a (rather stupid) risk. My wife has my life insurance policy info handy and Prudential’s 800 number on her speed dial anyway...

I should just chuck it in the trash but I like to experiment on “unfixable” repairs like this. I’m aware of the risk and take full responsibility.

Meanwhile, speaking of rust, I checked out this cool book from my library. I wasn’t looking for it, it was just on a display shelf. Must have some cool librarians. Random that someone actually wrote a book on the topic. Even weirder that someone would actually want to read it. I am weird that way.

“Weird”? “Weird”?!
That book just jumped to the top of my “must read” list.

“If the fix fails”?
That tank needs a colonoscopy! Considering how dire the consequences of missing holes / weak spots could be, proceeding with patching based on what you can see from the outside seems unwise.
And really, what are you trying to save? The paint? It looks good, but it’s compromised by what it has been hiding. A solder repair is going to burn it, and any patch that doesn’t add metal is probably bomb construction.
Having found two holes near the seam, can you ever trust that tank? Wouldn’t it be safer (and less expensive) to source a replacement?

I had been looking for a nice matched set of these for a while, so it was a nice find. $6.

Those will look good on the shelf. Well worth $6. I read Lattimore’s translation about thirty-five years ago. But I’ve come to prefer the more recent translation by Robert Fagles / Bernard Knox. I think one reviewer described it as “vigorous,” which isn’t a word one usually associates with dactylic hexameter in English.

I have one of those knife sharpening sets at Tahoe and another Diamond version in the Bay Area. They work great and keep the cook of the house happy with the sharpness of her knives. Sharpening all of the knives makes for a perfect rainy day project. The Snap-on spinner and Duro/Indestro ratchet with the plug are good finds too.

TANK REPAIR: Most repairs for GPA's are for pinholes. both of those are WAY past pinhole status!

EDIT Oops hit the Save early...

If you want to play that's fine, but test with water, learn a bit, and RETIRE THAT TANK!

get one of those little camera eyes and take a look inside with that the inside of the tank will look like the surface of the moon.. /

As LS said, if there are two there are a dozen more getting close...

JB weld will be a no-go. between the fuel, and the inside surface of the tank, it won't adhere and be leak proof.

Soldering is possible but how to get the inside COMPLETLY RUST FREE?

NOT IMPOSSIBLE, JUST NEARLY SO AND VERY IMPRACTICAL.

Tanks are readily available (ping the guys at the CCF or try on Eprey) and not silly $$ generally.

Or, retire the stove to parts status, wait for the next one for $5, and remake this box into a camping cabinet? or use that next one to get the donor for this one...

Rust, The longest War: - I'd like to see what that book is about also...

DaveFR, based on the form factor of the instruments, especially the colored speed ranges on the airspeed indicator, I would date the flight training materials no earlier than the 1960's, and probably 70's or later. Civilian, too.

That first one is a barograph. It's missing the drum that holds the graph paper.

Thanks guys!! That helpful.

Agreed. Unless you're going to media blast the thing to see how many holes there are, I'd do the safe thing and scrap it.

I picked up this Waterloo seven drawer tool box for seven dollars at the Englishtown, NJ Swap Meet on Friday. The other items were about a dollar a piece.

Levaughn, what is the size of the box? seems to be aimed at the parts bin market, rather than tools - unless a set of specialty tools?

I got a BUNCH of pics and cleanup to do. I just got back from a "tool sale" and could have easily brought back 5-10X what I did, but was very selective! almost NO cheap **** at this one, and I dropped $75 there! More than I would have liked and more than I often pay per tool, so no Suckage, but a decent deal.

Pics later!
