Wow, D42 and Alinc picked up Protractor heads! Full sized though. Since Starret doesn't have smaller ones today, I wonder about other companies and even Starrett back in the day...

Nice finds Merc! I like the Cart and dolly! good for concrete, but would not be so good in the yard on dirt, (I have one of these Asian hand trucks that convert to a cart with front casters, and even in hard packed dry dirt it was iffy...)

Nothing here today so I spent a hour or so preparing for tomorrows sink replacement..

Outlaw, I believe Lufkin made a full lineup as well. There is no protractor heads in the small size I can recall, but who knows. Starrett in particular made a lot of oddball tools involving rules and levels.

And they are Japanese/Brazilian, but Mitutoyo combo squares are excellent as well. Easier to find in metric. I am pretty sure that most rules will interchange with most heads.
I have a mutt set at work (larger) with Starrett 12", Lufkin 18", and Pratt & Whitney 24" blades.

Wich garage sale season ending, I have been seeing some really nice estate sales come up, and I have taken advantage of this. Yesterday, I drove north for what I thought would be a big, fancy house, but turned out to be a pack-rats place, but he did have good taste in tools and hardly ever used them.

Two partial Giller 1/4 sets, with extra goodies added!*, Proto and SK ratchets, Herbrand ratcheting adaptor, misc. Proto and Williams, Millers Falls push drill, extra points for the drill, an almost complete set of Moody jewelers screwdrivers, hand countersink, Klein linesman dykes, and two odd but nice pliers.

Today, I found out about a heating shop closing, so I made sure to start at that sale, picking up the following:

Snap-on and Bonney boxes, Proto metric (the ones I was looking for!) Williams, Snap-on, Bonney and Duro refrigeration sockets, a Herbrand extension and a Henckels razor. $15 for all of that. Here is a close up of the razor case:

The next stop was a bust, which I should have known from the address, and the one after that was being clean out of tools as I was walking up. But I did manage to find these for a buck:

A small fishing scale and a Snap-on extension.

Then, as I was heading home, I decided to stop at the local scrap yard, to look for machining brass. They also have used tools for sale at $5 a pound. Not the cheapest, but sometimes it is worth it.

Found the brass, at $4 a pound it is cheaper than having it shipped, also found a Belzer metric wrench and a vintage 4-way. Here is a close up of the 4-way:

All that came to $32. Not too bad.

*I think they threw all the misc. 1/4 into the boxes, as there was random Snap-on, Proto LA, Herbrand, and even the hex bits were all USA.

You maybe might **** on that Plomb 4 way! Just sayin.

Dave, I've found all east two different thickness of rules, and that is within the basic 12 or 6" Certainly the 4" is also different.

Is Lufkin still in Business? I'll have to see what they have...

I guess the size blade I'm referring to is what I would call the standard size for the larger squares. I don't have as much experience with the smaller sizes, except the type with double square heads. I even have a tiny Starrett adjustable diemaker's square that I believe has a 2 or 2.5" blade.

Another good one is PEC.

And Lufkin...lol...their machinist tool line was sold in the mid 60s to Pratt & Whitney. Then Cooper bought the rest of Lufkin not long after (tape measures, etc).

I do not know how long P&W kept making their machinist tools (which are nearly identical to their Lufkin counterparts, save for markings). I have seen a 1969 and 1970 P&W machinist hand tool cats showing these, that is the latest.

If you do find a Lufkin, they made a very nice satin chrome optional towards the end of the line. My P&W 24" has it and has held up well. Of course Starrett's satin chrome is great too.

Found this Husqvarna 445, the guy said he couldnt get it to run. After 5 minutes, I had it screaming. Paid $30 for it.

Also bought a Chicago Pneumatic die grinder, several cut-off wheels, several Roloc discs, and a few arbors for $5.

And three Craftsman strap wrenches for $2.

It's 11:30 and I'm about halfway through setting up for tomorrow's garage sale. I've only ever had one GJer come by (unknowingly, then figured things out through the secret santa / garage sale threads). I've got lots of cool things to offload, and plenty more in the back for those who appreciate such things. Any locals reading this, come on by before the LSU game (11:00 games ****) and introduce yourself.

I have found a few things though, picked up this 18" wide jaw Emmert pattern makers vise 2 weeks ago. Been so busy it's still sitting in the Excursion! Not cheap at $300, may be my first electrolysis project. No welds or other damage I can see.

Thanks 3bay,

Trying to outfit my Vulcan box with Vulcan tools. Going pretty good so far since this is a pretty good area for Vulcan stuff. Everything came from a Edna sale in Tonawanda, decent prices on the non Snap-On stuff. Mechanics tools all over the one car garage and basement. Not too many sets though since most stuff was pretty well used and thus missing pieces and like stuff in different areas of the house. Guess the guy had a shop at one time over on Elmwood and moved stuff to his home.

Also picked up this wall mounted tool kit, unsure of brand.
Grabbed a adjustable steel saw horse, a Godell Pratt T handle drill, Vise Grips, ols school Snap On swivel socket. A Stanley Sweatheart and a small wood level.
Found this Starrett Dial Indicator in its wood case for $10.

Since yesterday seemed to be heavy on the Powr-Kraft, today was heavy on the Craftsman =v= tools. It was the citywide garage sale day in El Cerrito, CA and there were a few sales that mentioned tools but the first one we went to was pretty much only tools.:)
Here are some pictures. The first picture is most everything, the second is the Craftsman finds. The third picture is the non Craftsman stuff, the fourth and fifth are of the Craftsman Crown carry box. I couldn’t figure out the tool roll but it was only a quarter. The Bosch triangle sander cleaned up like new.

Interesting case you found RedVise, though I have nothing to offer. Looks like it would be nice to display some tools. Maybe a salesman carried it?

Flyer- you’re on a roll.

Edit: agreed, nice looking ratchets Rickster, and nice Craftsman and boxhead haul Don!

I managed to get paroled long enough this weekend to hit an antique show. Mostly the prices at those things are sky high. But, there were some deals to be had.
The KampKook camping stove is in great shape, the Drum is dated 1942 and property of Air Force, the empty socket box is for 1/2" drive and is labeled with the national stock number for each item. The inspection lamp is dated 1943 US Army Air Force, US pad lock, 1944 dated shovel and cover. And a neat clip of Barcalo wrenches for our resident Baron of Barcalo.

And, for anyone that was paying attention last year, we know that this 5 gallon drum is made from 22ga steel, has a capacity of 5 gallons, and was made in 1942. (22 - 5 - 42) :lol_hitti

My mostly Craftsman haul last week at an estate sale. Everything in the pictures was in the 3 drawer Craftsman box for $50 except for pic 6. The guy was a woodworker and the box is VERY nice, just sawdust that needs cleaning out! Dated 1-77.

Pic 1: The toolbox, it's in nice shape.

Pic 2: Miscellaneous stuff, some old Sears auto tuning stuff.

Pic 3: Crown logo pipe die threaders and ratchet head and a ew other items.

Pic 4: 20 foot Craftsman tape measure and some electronics stuff.

Pic 5: Craftsman on the right, other brands on the left.

Pic 6: All Craftsman that mostly came out of the 50 cent and dollar bins, highlights are 2 clutch tip screwdrivers on top and both a "butterfly" and RHFT 1/4" drive ratchets. The working meter was a good find since I left mine out in the rain.

Pic 7: A nail pouch and work apron that were in the toolbox.

My favorite thing from the estate sale, a NOS Craftsman quick release 10" wood vise! $35.

Today's haul.

Bob-bet bait box "Just half a turn and there's your worm" made in Beaver, Wisconsin. It has belt loops in the back and the lid flips open.

The ditty bag is a salesman's sample. They gave these out with orders. I couldn't accept gifts, working for the Federal Government and all, part of the emoluments clause.

Lot of great stuff being found! Not so much here

Slow Day, but I had a cast iron sink to swap out so not totally a bad thing.(Waited for my extra muscle to get here, thing weighs 180 lbs...). Got it in but It's temporary as the effing thing has a blister on the enameling DEAD CENTER in the basin! - What QC? New one is on the way, but will take a week and a half to get here...

But earlier:

A few things from the HS Flea and one Yard sale - everything else was a bust.

Got the Fairmont body hammer for $3, and the Reindeer head cup for a buck. (got two different sizes now) - My son figured out that when the cup is filled the liquid comes out the deer's mouth! Drinking contest cup? :dunno:

Polar fleece? material - will be a lap blanket for camping/hunting... another buck

A partial set of Torque sticks, I had one and that is now a dupe. The important one is the yellow one for my Samurai - 50-55 lbs is all that is needed...

From the only producing Yard Sale: 4 wrenches - Tyru-Fit /;ectrolyte, P&C, Indestro Super, and one with no branding, but a "43" on it - Wartime? - Emergency candles, and on he next pic, a pan for hot coals, (bedwarmer?)

Two estate sales today. Spent $60 at the first sale on a decent mix of Craftsman, Powr Kraft, Proto, Plomb, Chanel Lock, Stanley, a small puller set, and several unidentified sockets.

Second sale started yesterday, but still had quite a few tools. Spent $60 on a nice set of Russell Jennings auger bits in a homemade leather tool roll, an almost complete Shelton tool set, Powr Kraft ratcheting wrench set missing 2 wrenches, Makita ratcheting bit driver set, a couple of Yankee screwdrivers, Stanley brace, and several punches and utility knives.

And more from last weeks estate sale haul. This Craftsman top box is dated 11-82 and like the bottom is in excellent shape. It was priced at $90, I opened up a couple of drawers, spotted one item and bought it! Can you see what that item was?

Pic 1: 12 drawer top box.

Pic 2: A Craftsman gimmick wrench and odds and ends.

Pic 3: More odds and ends.

Pic 4: All Craftsman pieces.

Pic 5: More Craftsman

Pic 6: Craftsman allen wrenches in the middle drawer and more odds and ends.

And the last of my estate sale finds from last week. Total was $224 IIRC.

Pic 1: Love these 3 Craftsman Crown logo hardware bins!

Pic 2: Some of the other brand quality tools, the red handle pliers are Blue Point.

Pic 3: Ridgid offset pipe wrench, Klein pliers, Proto easy outs and a few other items.

Pic 4, 5, 6: Sears and Craftsman owners manuals.
