Wow, wonder if HF is gonna come out with peg board (actual peg board holes) panels too (not that I want one or the bumpers but pretty cool)?

I'm surprised they haven't done it yet. If you go to Home Depot or Lowes, they have small 16"x16" pegboard sections in either plastic or steel, both black. They fit perfectly in the sides of the black 4-drawer carts underneath the drawer sections.

About to go get a new cart at the Black Friday price and have almost made up my mind to get an orange one. The green, yellow and red are still in the running. I already have a red one , but need another one for our vacation house.

IIRC the Black Friday is $179 on all colors ... there is another coupon at $169 for just the red, black and blue. HTH

I really liked the green ones, but the orange ones are growing on me. Does any one know if the peg board panels from Snap-on in red are the same color as the red HF carts?

I had the orange first because I was going to go all orange. Once I got it home it was slightly creamier and less bold than I wanted. I ended up swapping for the green and bought my 72" bottom and 56" top in green as well. I wish the orange was a bit bolder, less creamy.

I’ll let the picture speak for itself...

eae27b4a684746c3fda09ca742083a28.jpg

It’s pretty much buttoned up. Just need to touch up some paint in a few spots, tighten down a few bolts, and figure out a way to secure the bottom drawer section. I’m really happy with it!

I ended up trashing the spare cart idea, so I put all four locking casters and both spray can holders on this cart. I also cut up the spare lid to create the new center drawer divider. It was just easier that way since the lid already had a 90 degree bend at the lip that I utilized. I don’t have a brake press...

So far I’ve added a shop towel roll holder and a glove box holder. I’ll be adding/making a pry bar holder as well. Eventually, I think I’ll rivet some tool holders and wrench racks on the inside of the lid to free up some drawer space for future purchases and put all my main tools in one area.

So I was perusing Lowes today and stumbled upon this steel pegboard panel. Come to find out that if you rotate the side cross bar on the cart so that the lip is facing down instead of up, the panel fits in there like it was meant for it!

There’s mounting tabs on sides of the panel that are actually used to connect additional panels together, but they’re hidden behind the uprights and would be perfect mounting points on the cart with screws or rivets.

I need to go through this thread for ideas on how to make my 44" box the same height as my 56" box. Does HF sell drawers?

Pegboard is installed...

Also swapped out the crappy drawer liners for a nicer material I found at Lowe’s. Waiting on some tools to show up, then I can get a Prybar rack fabricated and I’ll probably to a little tool cart tour.

Thanks to everyone in this thread for putting out some awesome ideas!

I am still waiting on my 5 drawer cart to come in. I ordered it last week since the local store had none in stock in any color. I went ahead and got the shelf for it though and got it painted in wing walk material. This stuff takes a few days to really harden. But once it does it's pretty nice. We use it on aircraft wings that you have to step on to get into the plane. That way you don't slip in the rain or with oily shoes.81ddffed09e50eb52f43348f0b37e12c.jpg452e54983f80f8ef8c287ad9972fd06c.jpg

Heck, I didn't even paint it. I had a pilot at work do it for me while I fixed a plane yesterday evening. I just propped it up in front of my heater today so that it would dry faster. Stuff drys slow when it's cold.

How thick is it? I assume that's depending on how many coats are applied but say for just a couple of coats is it relatively thick?

I just looked up that Ultra Wing Walk stuff. Good idea but pretty expensive at $35/qt. I'm assuming you probably just had some leftover laying around. I suppose bed liner might be another alternative. I'll just stick to my original plan & use fine rib matting for my shelves like I did for the tops on my 2 carts.

It's pretty thick. We did one thick coat. It's easy to touch up when needed. It doesn't keep well once opened, so when we get some we make sure we use it up fairly quickly. We touch up all of our planes and then maybe use it on thresholds, tool box tops or whatever. It's too expensive to waste it.

I put some of those magnetic tool holders to use...

c81c98cf3573e70e6fc9f400723200dd.jpg

I riveted two in above each spray can holder. What I like about this is it keeps all the cans from rattling around and possibly spilling out when rolling the cart around. Especially nice for the upper holder as it keeps all the smaller items together and not floating around.

Do the 20% and 25% coupons we receive all the time apply to the accessories for the 5-drawer carts like the magnetic shelf and paper towel holder, etc.?

They should work, and always have for me.

They generally list item types (like tool carts or chests) or brands. The last one I saw did not list US General as one of the brands and they do have those accessories listed under their brand name. You should be good.

They do. I just used a 25% coupon to purchase the magnetic shelf today. Exclusions are always in the fine print of the coupon.

Just ordered my green 5 drawer today and almost used the $189 coupon for all colors until I found the $169 coupon from the HF coupon database. It says its just for red, blue, and black, but if you ask your manager they should have no problem honoring it for all colors. Been wanting a smaller cart, and for $169, the hf cart seems pretty solid. Cant wait to get mine in.

Added another pegboard under the folding tray, a magnetic tool holder for my grease gun, and a magnetic tray that I took the magnets off and riveted to the bottom tray for my hand packer, CV grease, and some funnels. I used one of the magnets from the tray to secure the tip of the grease gun.

Just have to drill holes for the drawer latches, add a prybar rack, and I can call this build finished!

Well, I made a drop in shelf for the deep top drawer. I got a sheet metal brake from HF, I had a piece of 16 gauge laying around. This is the 1st time I ever used a brake, I think it turned out pretty good. Now I got to paint it & make it look purdy:pimpflash.

has anyone found anything like this for sale yet? would like one for my odds and ends and phone that i keep in my top drawer.

I work with several guys who have Snap-on boxes with sliding drawer trays, so I assume other big brands also offer trays.

Making custom trays is not a huge job, or ask your local high school metal shop/FFA about doing it as a class project. My neighbor's boy made a 4x8 flatbed trailer in shop last year.

Just got an Orange 5 drawer today. Closest store was sold out of every color. Drove to a store 45 minutes way that had two total in stock :). No mods yet :). Got it all together tho.

Medina HF allways seems to have more stock than the HF that are close to me.

Defiance, OH was the store that was sold out, Fort Wayne, IN was the store that had 2 total and the 1 orange I wanted :). They said 4 weeks to order in Defiance. They said something like 5K toolboxes sold from Black Friday to Christmas eve. I'm not sure who exactly sold the 5K.

Went to Lowe’s today on my way home and was looking for that rubber rug runner for a tool box top, saw it mentioned in another thread. Couldn’t find any bit did happen to find a nice rubber mat, 3x4, with a tear on the edge. Got it for $9 out the door after a little haggling (normally $22 and some change).

Cut it up and set it on the top lid and tray. I think this is going to be a nice mod. Now I can rivet through the lid and not have to worry about looking at them.

Had our sheet metal fab guy at work cut me a piece of 16 gauge large enough to make a false inner lid that I can easily fasten magnets to. Will attach it to the underside of the real top. Does anybody have the exact dimensions of the top ?? Should have measured mine but it is at work and I am at home :). Thinking to attach magnets to the false lid then maybe do kaizen foam with cutouts.

I bought a red 4 drawer last weekend. So far I just put it together and added the side tray and rubber grommets to the holes for screwdrivers or whatever.
