I forgot how much I love Rain-X

I stopped at Wally World last week to pick up a few things. I need some food items and a jug of washer fluid, so it was the logical place.
I was the model of an impulse shopper. While picking out washer fluid, I thought, hey...I could use some new wiper blades. Then I saw the Rain-X glass cleaner and water repellent product. Hmm...that sounds pretty good. MAN! It's awesome! It's like you're waxing your windshield so the water just rolls right off. I shouldn't have wasted the money on new wiper blades.

I used to use Rain-X but as work and family life have gotten busier, I don't take care of my car's appearance nearly as well as I used to, but Rain-X really is a functional and safety related improvement.

I've found it to be miserable riding/driving vehicles without rainx. I imagine this is why you see people driving around with their wipers on HIGH when its just drizzling.

Rainx now makes a -30F washer fluid. Should help keep things from freezing up. The regular orange is good to -20F though.

I used it when it first came out (30 years ago). At first it was great but after a few months the windshield got hazy and scuffed. Solution was to retreat.
Then it went off the market. Took a lot of effort to get the windshield clear again.
A couple years ago I bought a used car. Apparently the previous owner used it.
This time it didn't take as much effort to get that stuff off the windshield.

Rainx devotee here.

Had the wipers quit on a road trip. As long as I had some speed the window stayed clear enough to drive safely. Slow traffic with ground water thrown up by tires wasn't much fun but doable at slow speed. Got home fine. Thank you rainx.

PS: I do all my windows and mirrors. Seems to help with snow run off.

Since I don't turn the wipers until it is serious rain my daughter says watching the drops go up the window makes her nuts. After I said "don't watch the drops" I told her that she and rainx should have been around in the 60s. She would have a different view of it.

I've used the rainx treatment for years. I can't stand driving in the rain without it now.
I tried rainx washer fluid once, and did not like it at all. That was several years ago. Might be time to give it another try now.

Also wipe silicone spray lube on your wiper blades. I just spray it on a rag and wipe the blades with it -- keeps 'em moving well and quiet.

great stuff. Used it for close to 30 - 40 years. To stop the haze, clean the windshield twice with a glass cleaner about 5 minutes after applying it. There will be more than enough left on the windshield to work. Also - before you use it you can clean your windshield with as much glass cleaner as you want then when you are done apply RainX. Look at the cloth or paper towel. It will have dirt on it that the RainX lifted off the glass that your glass cleaner didn't get.

I have used RainX on all my vehicles for the past 25 years. I have been using RainX washer fluid for a long time. Love it. It helps keep wear and tear down on wipers as well since I do not have to use them all the time. When I worked at my neighbors body shop, we used to wax the customers windshields if we were washing and waxing the entire vehicle. I prefer the RainX though.

It annoys me when I get my car serviced (VW lease) because they top off my fluid with their crappy washer fluid. I burn through the reservoir on the way from the dealer to AutoZone to buy a new bottle of RainX fluid and fill it up. I rarely use my wipers.

Call me lazy. I just pour a small quantity of P21 Windshield Wash Booster into my washer reservoir. I think it's a detergent.

I'm impressed by the number of folks who are Rain-X fans.

Makes me question my own experience 30+ years ago where I found a treated windshield would get streaky and hazy after a few weeks and was then hard to get clean. Maybe the product has been reformulated.

The front door windows on my 2008 Lexus RX came new with some sort of hydrophobic coating on the glass and now almost 13 years later it still has some ability to improve runoff. Perhaps OE glass has new coatings now that make Rain-X more effective than that from decades ago?

Brought the work van for an oil change and the guy starts explaining that my washer fluid was filled with antifreeze ( I assume because of the color) he was in a mild panic. The look of relief when I told him I just filled it with rainx washer fluid was amusing

I used to be a rain x fan. It’s not a bad product however, Aqua-pel is sooooo much better. Easier application and it lasts at least a year for me

Years ago, In the middle of our daughter’s wedding rehearsal dinner we get a call from my wife’s best friend and wedding cake maker. That they were lost and their windshield wipers stopped working. Of course it was raining like crazy. I found them at a gas station an hour away. Bought some Rain-X put it on their windshield and said follow me. They were shocked that they didn’t even need the wipers anymore. Of coarse I fixed the wipers the next day when it wasn’t raining.

Rain-X fan here. I use it year round. In the winter season it helps with snow and ice removal from the windshield here in Chicago.

Only issue I have with it is the 40 F minimum temperature required for application. I park outdoors. It isn't often that I have time during a Chicago winter to re-apply it when the weather turns warm for a day or two. I need to apply it now and the current temperature in Chicago is 33 F with snow falling and not expected above 40 for at least the next 10 days.

Like the OP, I am a fan. I haven't used it in years simply because time, money, kids, etc. I think back then there was a time about 20 years ago where I couldn't find it.

I can't stand their washer fluid though - I put it in 2 of our cars about 10 years ago and it stunk liked vomit each time I used the washer fluid. Waited until I ran it dry and put regular blue stiff back in.

I put some "orange" (winter) windshield washer fluid in a hand spray bottle to deal with frost on the windshield mornings. Makes it go away and saves the wipers some wear & tear....

I still have some! It was a bundle deal with Fog-X and I think i bought it mail order from R&T or C&D. Been a fan since the first time I put it on. Driving low sports cars to ski areas where that brown slush is airborne all the time made me a believer. No I live in the Pacific North Wet where we just had a 60+ day run of rain...

I run the washer fluid now too!

A tractor with air powered wipers,.......... that didn't work,......

If it started to rain,.... pull over, squirt a stream across the windshield, 'n manually move the wiper to spread the film,.....
Worked Great for atleast a full load of fuel before I did it again,......

In the years since, I just buy the usual yellow bottle, 'n give the washer tank a Big Squirt whenever I add blue washer fluid,.....

I use the Rain-X washer fluid, and it works really well too.

Just FYI, it stains light colored paints, and can ruin washer fluid level sensors. Some German manufacturers even state using it will void the warranty on the washer fluid sensors and pumps.

I use the Rain-X additive that gets mixed with any standard washer fluid. I haven't had any problems with fluid sensors, but when I run out I'm going to strip the windshield and apply Aqua-pel.

I've never used Rain-X before BUT I'm just back from a 500 mile round trip today. I'm wondering if it helps at all with keeping bugs from baking on the windshield? For that matter, would it work if applied to the grille/front end paint? I mean any better than ordinary car wax?

PPf (paint protection film) is the best but a ceramic coating would also provide very good protection and easier removal

I started with Rain-X, but switched to Aquapel many years ago. It lasts over a year and is easier to put on than Rain-X. Go to Amazon and get some Aquapel. You will never look back.

I love Rain-X! Used to use it on my goggles when I raced motocross. Really helps in a mud race.

I used it on the windshield of my old Dodge pickup, when the wipers conked out. The windshield isn't sloped very much and it's amazing how well the rain beads off, even at very low speeds.

Someone had mentioned staining on light colored vehicles, caused by orange Rain-X washer fluid. So far, I haven't had any staining issues on either of my white cars. Been using orange Rain-X in them for about 4 years.

It has not been reformulated. My wife gave me car a rainX wash a few weeks ago. The worst hazy **** on my window. I washed it off.

A good set of wiper blades and properly cleaning your wi shield will last longer than the rainX treatment stuff. Once it start to wear off it's worse than prior to rainX.

Been using it since the early 1990s. I remember it being very expensive and not very well known, but a few people went on and on about it.

Pro tip: Even after a good car washing, wipe down the windshield with a good quality window cleaner before applying Rain-X. One of my vehicles developed a haze from being outdoors forever, so I had to take 90% isopropol to it with a scrungy sponge, then window cleaner.

Ok, someone help me out here. I want to like RainX. I used to love it. Used it years ago (early 2000s) and loved it. Quit using it for whatever reason for years. Got some recently to start using on my wife's and my car and it seems to work for one rain then it's ****. Am I not applying enough coats? Am I doing it wrong? I think I applied 2-3 coats. Buffed it on, let it get hazy, then buffed out, repeated multiple times. Am I doing something wrong?

IIRC, the directions say to apply it twice, let dry and buff. Use a damp towel to do the entire window to get it sparkling. I always use a window cleaner after applying it (Sparkle) and it works fine. Just did the NEW shower door they installed today (the first one had a large scratch). Looks great!

It's a great product, I love it combined with PIAA wipers.
