Bob: I love that piece/part of PVC to repair leaks in broken sprinklers and good to see it did it's job for you.

another great tip:

DON'T USE POWER TOOLS or put yourself in harm's way or take unnecessary chances that might get you a trip to ER cause it's far from a good time to go there.

STAY SAFE and THINK when using any power tools is my rule and i try to always wear ear and eye protection cause we don't get replacements as we grow old. along with not touching my face it's tough teaching an old dog new tricks, but i'm learning.

cheers
Thanks Drives, stay safe and stay healthy.

You and I don't know anyone who has tested positive so maybe we're one of the 284 Million who won't get it. If we do come down with COVID-19, maybe we'll be one of the 45 Million who don't have to be hospitalized.

Come to NY I have two close contacts that were exposed and are on self quarantine. The mother of one of my players on the hockey team I coach tested positive she ran about the rink taking photos during a 4 hour tournament. She is currently daily telling her on going struggles with the disease in the New York Post. According to my wife there are 35 positive cases in Port Washington

So it is all around me.

Bob, They do make flexible PVC lines that would work for that repair. Not rated for continuous pressure but on a sprinkler run (past the valve) they work fine. Saved my **** when I had to repair my manifold. I put one on each of my 7 valves.

Just something to tuck away for future...

Be careful, Bob. We don't want to lose you.
Uncle Willie, I'm being real careful. Maybe more than necessary but the overseer sets the rules and floggings will continue until I get my mind right.

Pi_guy, I hear you. Florida had 390 cases last Thursday and 2,484 this Thursday. Governor has not called for Shelter in place but is asking all the passengers arriving on flights from New York to self-quarantine for two weeks. Looks like we'll be fine. :Violent:

Roger, thank you. At around $2 a foot for the 1-inch size that looks like a good alternative. When I use up the 8 fittings I now have on hand (four 3/4" and four 1") I'll be ordering some of that flex PVC pipe. I like that it's schedule 40 because the regular sprinkler pipe is pretty thin.

Sublime, you'd be surprised at all the advantages I have. A box of Nitrile gloves lasts me twice as long. And when I'm up in the attic crawling around I always know where my duct tape is.

There was a phrase in hockey refereeing "Keep your Eye on the line" in the 70's.

Now your mention of handicap reminded me of this.
One of my linesman was blind in one eye. He calls me over in middle of game and points to the blue line and says I have my eye on the line, sitting in the middle of the blue line was his glass eye.

He would often drop it in his drink at the bar and hand it back to the bar maid saying that is a strange ice cube in there. He also played goaltender in the men's league we used to shoot for his blind side.

Still here thinking off you guys every time I see the news now.

On the plus side it feels a bit like what I think retired life would be like and so far I actually enjoy it. I wish there was a little more metal casting but the local government implored us to avoid making outdoor fires. While I have flouted the rules a little by riding the bike outside their imposed soft boundaries I thought better of attracting the attention of local NIMBYs or other cabin fever crazed neighbours by doing anything overly suspicious.

My task board is just a mess though as I try to re-organise things in order of what is possible to do based on what I have on hand. Since there is no way to get some stuff for another 3-4 weeks at least.

Stay safe, sane and healthy Bob!

I think Bob gets more done with 1 hand missing than most others get done with 2 good hands.

Bob I due like the Duck tape dispenser trick!
Sublime, my neighbor said the same thing but it has more to do with how bored I get doing nothing. Makes me cranky as well.

First time I used that trick was at a Corvette Convention. Our club made up a South Florida Liquor Dicker sticker that looked like an Ed Roth character with a huge tongue and clown shoes. Stickers came with a free glass of our punch. It was a Hawaiian Punch Vodka Martini.

Pi_guy, you can be miserable or have fun in life, with or without a handicap. Having fun with the handicap was what I was all about. The sign on my desk at IBM read "Hire the Handicapped, We're Fun to Watch" and it was my signature on the GJ for a few years. When someone sent me a PM about my sensitivity, I took it down. Snowflakes are beautiful, fragile and should be sheltered.

"Stay safe, sane and healthy Bob!" One out of three ain't bad.

Eugene, for me this is more like imprisonment than retirement. We have a place to stay, meals and an exercise pen. There's a place to work but you can't use the sharp spinning power tools unless the warden is supervising. Supplies are in short supply so turning toothbrushes into weapons is becoming attractive.

I know this quarantine is needed but with no outside contact for the past 13 days (yes, I am scratching marks on my cell wall), I seem to have still contracted a cold. So now I have a low (96.6F) temperature and runny nose. Could be allergies but I've got the aches and low grade headache. Looks like I'll be spending more time in bed. Don't worry, it's not COVID-19 (Fever, Cough and Shortness of Breath).

Bob. I haven't go your whole thread thru yet so I didn't no you are going with one hand. I'm amazed that you do more things with one hand then most of us with two:bowdown:
I build a house for a family and the man was born without a right hand. It was fascinating to watch how he did things like a normal dude with one hand. I take my corona hat of for you guys:thumbup:

I would hate to go through life without a sense of humor, even about the things that pain me. Humor has always been my #1 coping mechanism. In short, I like your style, Bob.

BOB: sorry to hear you might have a cold. I had a cough and sneezing last week for a day or so and it went away so guessing I have some sort of alergy and maybe you do to.

yep this quarantine stuff is not great at all. i'm hearing from some of my neighbors that while nobody knows anybody yet with C-19 stories of a terrible sort of flu they or loved ones had a few months ago sounded like C-19 might have been around her for 6 months or so.

I hope you feel better soon cause even while you are stuck at home I bet you still have a few things on the TO DO & HONEY DO LISTS you'd like to check off.

take care and keep smiling.

I have limped or hobbled since high school the knees have taken a beating since then. A few times have been questioned by opposing team with how can I play like that. I mention it does not hurt my skiing or skating, just walking and stairs ****. I do want to kill the ski resort designer that puts bathrooms down or up stairs.
For years as I hobble off to do something at the race track I would mumble Hire the handicapped we are fun to watch.

Snow flakes should be groomed and raced on!

Jim, I don't care who you are, that there is funny.
:lol_hitti

For a few months after the 10th anniversary party I was in that young man's position but with a broken elbow. It's amazing how happy you are when you get back your one arm. I went to the Disney World re-hab center to fix the elbow exactly one year after I broke it. It has worked fine ever since.

Sublime, I appreciate the thought but I'm going to avoid offending anyone who has a handicap and isn't coping or the friends of the handicapped who feel the need to shield them them.

I heard we have a Shelter in Place order for our state. Seems timely. On Sunday Florida had 4,038 cases and 56 deaths. Today, three days later we have 7,773 cases and 101 deaths. With a population larger than New York State and 20.5% of Floridians being over 65 (only Maine ehas a higher percentage at 20.6) it's possible we'll catch up to and surpass New York as the state with the most cases and death. Florida can be #1!!!
:rocker:
I am just posting so Bob mentions me next time he posts.

Hang in there we are pulling for you.
Uncle Willie, sorry about the oversight but I really did try.
Bob you must be feeling better you're on a roll.
Bobby, I am feeling better but my roll is nothing compared to the spoke-shaved one you made in your new horse. That is a really cool design and perfect for your limited shop space.
Bob. I haven't go your whole thread thru yet so I didn't no you are going with one hand. I'm amazed that you do more things with one hand then most of us with two:bowdown:

Tapio, thanks for stopping by and I'm so sorry about the quicksand of my thread. I warned people it was a bad idea to encourage me.

I appreciate the encouragement but I doubt I could come close to making my shop as beautiful and functional as yours even if I had three hands. It just keeps getting better and better.

I'm glad you were fascinated by your one-armed builder -- we really are fun to watch.

Week is getting better and so am I. Thank you!!

Tom, I was offered a teaching gig at Marist College. My art professor wanted me to hold a coping seminar for the students who had trouble dealing with a Friday night blackhead. It was back in the '70s and I could see it being even more needed today. I just have a hard time talking to the top of kid's heads so it's probably not for me.

Drives, I spent about 18 hours in bed and my sniffles went away as soon as I put on the CPAP mask. Temperature came up from 96.6F to 98.1 and I made myself some home-made chicken soup. Back to feeling fine.

Pi_guy, I think I was the opposite. I looked like a cripple when I wore hockey skates or skied on my sticks with leather straps. Switched to figure skates and it was better but still a lot of fun to watch. Skating was cheap so we went to the local frozen lake and spent hours there. Never had the money to outfit myself with ski gear, let alone the wife and kids. Really crushed me when I discovered you had to pay to get to the top of the mountain because my childhood skiing was in empty hay fields -- you had to work hard to get to the top and even harder to stay upright all the way to the bottom. If you fell, the skis or at least one of them would come off and finish the ride without you.

It is sad so many snowflakes are getting this trial by fire. What in the world are they going to whine about when the stores are out of everything in their size? Only Lululemon yoga pants left are ***!!!

Guys, Bob’s no roll over guy.

He rolls with the punches.

Rock on Bob,

We ❤️ you.
Rian, not quite true -- I do drop and roll whenever I set myself on fire.

Back at ya my friend.

Bob, don't you be getting ill on us mate, :shocking: , best advice I can give is, stay indoors and keep warm, oh wait :headscrat

Mrs S has some real horror stories at the minute, but we'll save them for another day.

Keep well
Steve:beer:
Steve, it is hard to tell when you are running a fever in Florida. I know something's wrong when the house is set to 78*F and I'm feeling chilled.

Mrs. S and my daughter-in-law are witnessing a lot of the same stuff. Doctors diagnosing patients from across the room while the nurse gets up close and personal. When our system is used to handling 800,000 flu patients with some needing a day or two on a ventilator, this thing is a shock. Patients by the thousands on top of the usual load and needing 20 days on a ventilator is a whole new world.

Bless Mrs. S and I hope you give her a round of applause every time she comes in the door. I am one-hand clapping as hard as I can over here.

Bob why c@n't I get the letter @ to work on my keyp@d? No kidding. I h@ve tried sh@king, Sl@pping, ch@nging b@tteries etc. HELP
Bobby, my keyboard did the same thing with the letter N. I cured the problem by buying a new keyboard. I know Vladimir (Vieux) could fix it quickly but the time and shipping would be a deal breaker. I always have a spare keyboard but they are wired and so old they don't have the

Matt, I am feeling better already and my temperature is back to normal.

Florida is more dependent on tourism than most states so closing down tourist attractions, including the beaches, at the height of our tourist season (the "not Summer" season) is a big deal.

Stewart, we're damned either way. I only hope God's waiting room (aka Florida) doesn't empty out too fast.
Bob, I find it amazing that you seem to be able to remember everyone's real names, even if they're only mentioned once or twice on some other obscure thread!
Tom, I have a mental defect inherited from my mother, who inherited it from her mother. Mom called me DiBob and my brother **** BuDick more often than our actual names. Grandma just called us both Bobby (her son Erik's nickname). You had to know who they were looking at to be sure.

I remember names better if I write them down but I still can't remember my grandchildrens' significant others unless I have to send them a card for some occasion, like a Restraining Order.

To remember GJ Member names I have a Word file with screen name, real name, spouse name and location. I also use Lotus Organizer to keep track of GJ Member birthdays and anniversaries.

Matt, I try to protect my A$$ and the best way I have found is to avoid poking the bear.
To be honest I didn't even notice you skipped me til you posted that. I even ignore myself on occasion.
Uncle Willie, I try to respond to everyone who is kind enough to stop by and comment. As one of those kind people, I didn't want you to think I didn't care or notice. I'm starting to think my mouse is plotting against me. It is doing double taps when I'm sure I made a single. Actually I have two mice in front of me and both are doing it now!

I have a slightly less advanced way of remembering everybody's real name on here.

I just come over to this thread and look for the last time Bob replied to them.
