Hi guys,
I picked up this small Pressteel box a while back. I have not been able to find any information on it. If anyone can help me and tell me more about the box I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Damn that’s cool. I’ve never seen that model. I wonder if it would work as a mid chest between a toolmobile and a plomb top box...

You would have to put spacers to keep the top box off the handle at minimum.

I've used 1xs for that for stacking carry boxes.

Found the other day at 2nd hand store. PO tried to make it look "old school" by applying stickers and covering with laquer. :lol_hitti

Removed stickers, should I try and remove lacquer? Cleaned w/ WD40 & steel wool. Looks nice on top of the toolmobile : )

Picked up this Plomb ToolMobile this week. Pretty nice shape. Cleaned and waxed it. No serial number and painted emblem, so guessing mid 40's (?). Thought the clip on socket rail was cool. Paid $125 in Southern Oregon.

Rick

You ****. I almost bought that and had regrets, now even more so. She also had a bunch of other Plomb sockets and wrenches, but passed on those too. Now I know better. I did get an OK Craftsman 3 drawer from her.

I picked up this Pressteel today off of CL, it came with a small Snap-On top box. Both were 65.00

I thought the mid section was interesting. I have a few of the rollers but never come across a mid or an upper, other than plomb branded chests.

Yes I bought it thinking I may insert mid section into my plomb stack

I'm trying to find the paint I used on the top chest. I might have to get another quart.

Nice to see some of the more obscure Pressteel boxes show up like your mid OTG. Nice find. Also your Plomb top box looks to be in great shape and I really like that color on it. With the bonus of a few tools stashed behind the drawers that's a great find! Ed.

I'll bet propmaker's cabinet started out as a workstation in an aircraft plant during WWII. It has all the makings of a production workstation.

Banged out some dents and stripped the mid box. Primed one drawer.

Inherited a rollaway that looks like a Pressteel, but does not have the manufacturer's name embossed on the front of the drawer. Also, the unit has been customized.

Here's the story: my grandfather was hired by a machinist at Lockheed in 1940. First worked in Burbank and then in the 50s in Palmdale. This was his tool chest (with a Kennedy 520 on top). You can see that locks have been added and the bottom cover is converted to a hinged door.

Did Pressteel make some models without their name embossed? Did the make a special run just for Lockheed? Did my grandfather build the thing from scratch and modeled after a Pressteel? Did he just customize a factory model? Did the manufacturer make the customizations?

Unfortunately, he and I never talked much about this history, and if my uncle knew much about it, he never told me before I inherited his father's things from him.

This is most certainly a pressteel. My corporate model on the first page is not stamped. Also my tool mobile is not stamped. There is a sticker on the right hand side of the upper portion on the corporate model. Maybe check there ?
