Spent some time yesterday mucking about with the carb and throttle linkages on the Suburban. This carb is old and really needs to be sleeved at the throttle to take up the slop and seal up any air gaps. There are plenty of videos and info online, but I'm nervous to try it, because you only have one shot to drill put the top end correctly, and these Walbro (LME-34) carbs are hard to come by in good working condition.

Today, I figured I'd try and do a little bit of clean up around the shop, put some tools away and such. However since it's hot out today, I found a beer and a not totally uncomfortable chair, so progress has slowed to a snails pace.

Productive day.

Installed clear Trask derby cover on the Harley. Thought it would be a easy job but various problems (stripped a hex, didn't have a seal properly installed, no instructions with torque settings WTF). Believe I fixed it with elbow grease and the right tools so far fixed the leaking primary. Crossing fingers as I love the look.

Got a call from delivery truck that my side panels for the bike table lift are in. Texted my biz partner and said, "can we reschedule our meeting?" He obliged so got to install (easy). So much easier to get bike on lift, but need to add some traction to the ramps as had some slippage due to wet tires from rain.

Have a new shifting rod I want to install later today but may wait tomorrow.

I run APE pods, half the cost of K&N's plus they don't fall off.

I have a 82' CB650. I always hated wrestling with the four bank of carbs. She is a mess right now and has not ran in years. Previously it developed a lean condition. I was not savvy enough to understand how to repair the situation. We took it too a certified Honda mechanic and his suggestion was individual filters on each carb. It did not get swapped because he was unable to get the parts for the installation. (circa 2000)

The last time it ran it would miss around 5-6k rpm. It was weird it started to run funny with the air cleaner installed. Swap the air cleaner for a thinner element and it ran fine for years. Now she is a barn queen in need of love. I think the exhaust packing burned out over the years. Share the link for the carb filters?

Finished the final touches on the rototiller repair video. It is a how to repair video for a TroyBilt Pony Rototiller. It was not running properly for me last weekend. Okay it would only run when fuel was added to the carburetor. Follow along if you are interested in learning how to remove and clean a carburetor on a 5 Hp Briggs & Stratton, Troybilt Pony tiller. I make a few mistakes along the way.

Check it out:

Pulled a tire and rim off my quad to see if I could clean out the bead enough to fix a leak......seems I made it worse.

Heading out for a ride today with my brother to get out of the city, hopefully the bead sealer he has works! Other wise we shall be pumping the tire up ever hour or so lol!

Also been in a texting spiel for a diff with 4.11s for my truck, I not sure this guy knows what he’s got.

Built a shelf for my rolling mats. I got tired of them being on the ground. Bugs would crawl on them and they would get dusted. The shelf isn't the best but it doesn't the trick. I utilized some un used space to get them off the ground.

I have a ninja I was selling for parts, but kept getting bottom feeders.

So I got it running and riding.

New seat, new calipers front and rear so it can actually stop. Turns out that I didn’t need calipers. The previous owner removed the pads, so when I pressed on the brakes, the pistons over extended. Rather than fight the calipers, I just bought new/used from a cycle salvage. Same with the seat.

Now it runs and rides. Had it up into the triple digits last night :shocking:

Gonna do a little more work, and either list her for a higher price, or like my buddy says “keep it. It’ll save you money on fuel”.

I may just keep it.

Not bad for a $200 bike, and about $400 of parts...

Repaired a hose bib that had a catastrophic washer failure.

Organized and labelled the hose quick connects, washers, nozzles. Found my water pressure gauge.

Zip tied hose repair connectors with hose clamps, ready to go.

Eliminated things being in three places when it comes to my hose things.

Annual maintenance on the garage mini-split. Pulled the blower wheel, cleaned up the fins, and flushed out the drain line. It is currently 98 degrees outside, but inside, a cool 75. Life is good :)

*unbuggered* the crappy looking headlight covers on the Accord. Might be able to see where I'm going at night now :)
Didn't use a specific product designed for the job, just some 3M 05995 Foam Pad Polishing Glaze, a microfiber & some minor elbow grease.

Made a temporary plug for the generator and fired up the old Powerchief Generator. She started on the first pull! I was impressed. This was it's first use/start of the year. We experienced a power outage this evening and I wanted to lower my big garage door without disconnecting it. I wish new equipment was built with the same quality as this old girl. She's a beaut!

500 twin?

Nah, just a 250.

It shits and gets good enough for me :3gears:

Finished today off by getting turn signals installed. There were none that came with the bike, so I got some from the salvage yard. First set I got had the wrong connector. So I had to go back for the other style.

Put the rest of the plastics I had on it.

Doesn’t look half bad and runs like a raped date. Gonna get a helmet tomorrow so I can start riding her more. I borrowed a friends helmet but I’d like one of my own :)

Pic next to the yellow R6(?) was the day I bought her. She’s come a LONG way. Can’t wait to put some miles on her.

Made a giant F@CKING mess changing the oil on my mom's Craftsmen rear engine rider.

1st of all they dump the oil drain right onto flat sheet metal frame, so it will go all over. I cut up a cardboard paper towel roll to help get the oil into a drain pan and was able to get most of it in w/o too much hassle. Same story with the oil filter, which there was no solution for. Just let it dump out on the frame I guess?

When I put the new oil filter on it just didn't feel right going on, but I made sure it was tight. Filled it up with oil and drove it out of the garage, only to find it dumped all the oil out on my floor. So I just put the old filter back on.

I told her not to buy anything new from Craftsmen, but did she listen......

Not a fix all though. I had to tell a friend to stop changing his oil in my garage. He has a Nissan Xterra and no matter how careful you are, oil is getting on the ground. The only access to filter is through a small hatch, and it drips all over the subframe. That and he always left me a mess. Ah well.

Agreed. Some oil drains are just a mess, period, and you have to get creative and/or get used to wiping up oil afterwards.

As for small engines, the best thing I did was purchase an oil evacuation system. I initially bought it because I was working on several boats for people. I HATE working on boats, just thought I'd get that out there. But I quickly found out the oil evacuation system worked awesome on small engines and I now use it almost exclusively.

Gotta unload the quad today, pump up the tires to 15psi and do a check over the next 3-4 days of air pressure loss. We been fighting a bead that didn’t want to full seat until an hour into yesterday’s ride. Also got to do PMs on the machine before parking it outside.

Mike, What system do you have and would you recommend it or another?

This is the one I have had for the past 10-12 years now. I have the 20-gallon version.
https://www.johndow.com/product/6-20-gallon-fluid-evacuators/

YES, I highly recommend it but it is a bit pricey. I bought mine from my local NAPA when it was on their "Real Deals" promotion and saved a bit.

I had two of those cheapy plastic tanks with the air operated vacuum pump prior and they were junk. I didn't care for them at all. I don't know why I wasted my money buying the second one after the first one didn't last. My head told me that it was a fluke and the crack was just bad luck but my gut kept telling me to step up and buy a high quality unit. When the second plastic one failed I kicked my own *** and that's when I bought the John Dow evacuation system and haven't looked back.

I also have the John Dow Crew Chief 26-gallon heavy duty self evacuating oil drain system for my lift and love that as well. Very high quality steel tank as well as larger 16" diameter by 4" deep steel funnel with mesh screen.
