ZEE: if i lived close to you i'd probably have MASTER'S tickets (if they ever let us out of confinement) and i'd go to auctions all the time cause i've seen some amazing stuff get sold at auctions in your area in the past.

ALL: that said I'm sure it's all a matter of time and even I only have a certain amount of time to shop for cool stuff. speaking of that while i was dropping off a meal at our 83 year old in laws i found this to pick up on my way.

I thought it's would be a nice little 4 drawer cabinet to set on a shelf or bench, but it's got a pretty cool stand made out of rebar and scraps so I now need to find a place to put it.

Since you must be pretty max'd out in the shop, I'm sure the Mrs. won't mind you using that for the silverware in the dining room :)

McGee: yep once I saw that the stand was decent I offered it to her and so far she hasn't found a spot for it so it's sitting in my gym at the moment. MAXED out is right, but does that stop me from looking and/or buying probably not.

AND my parent's basement isn't maxed out quite yet, but getting close as I empty one of my big leased storage units. if I go my bride will probably put a big FREE sign on everything, but she tends to be with me on a good part of my travels to pick this stuff up so she kinda likes it too.

cheers!!

Not sure if this is appropriate to post this on this thread but thought there might be some interest in getting these for $15.00 each. $25 for the two

Question: Do you think these are metal or plastic? If plastic then I'll remove this post.

Hey Drives, Come on down to GA. It's wide open, like Rona never came to town. Not many masks, Home Depot and grocery have more customers than they ever had, etc.

I'm not saying I agree with what's happening totally. I still wear a mask in public.

Where are these auctions you speak of? I'm missing out somehow!

OK, got the big beast (18 drawers) out of Dad's basement! Still haven't found any name on it.

Here are some pics of the two smaller units. Unfortunately, the plastic drawers are trashed.

The 16-drawer unit is from Akro-Mils Cabinets in Akron, OH. They're still in business. From the looks of info from their website, this unit predates 1970, when they had a logo change: http://akro-mils.com/About-Us/Timeline

The 12-drawer unit is a Stackmaster from Union Steel Chest Corporation in Le Roy, NY (home to a Jell-O museum, apparently...). Besides the broken drawers, I don't like that it doesn't have a back. Does anyone know if it did originally???

Also, any ideas on a source for replacements for the broken drawers? I don't need them to be original, and wouldn't mind if they were steel instead of plastic.

Mike

One of my favorite threads had fallen to page 7. Back to the top. Picked up these two tool cabinets from a Facebook listing --- Craftsman and Wards. Good candidates for restore. No bad dings, just surface rust. The metal badge plates look to be in excellent condition underneath the flaking paint. Once I replace the castors they should be the exact same height with the Craftsman box being a little deeper. Not a you **** deal, but the guy did deliver.

I picked this large 4 drawer chrome metal cabinet from a lady up the street from me for 'FREE'. Its very heavy and takes two people to lift it. Measures 31-1/2"W x 22-1/4" T x 21-1/4" D

Got it home and took it all apart and cleaned it up inside and out. It had 4 small wheels on the bottom, but two were broken, so I removed all of them.

The chrome handles were a bit rusty, but they cleaned up nicely with some Brasso. Hard to get a picture of the cabinet because its like a mirror its so reflective.

Except for a few light scratches on the top, there's no dents or scratches in it. I intend to put a nice black rubber mat on top.

I will use it to store a lot of my vintage and antique motorcycle literature, drawings, ads, posters. pictures and various other early motorcycle related paper items.

Still need to find a space in the shop office to put it. :headscrat

Yeah, the rest of us can just quit now. We have seen the peak! And it’s behind us, reflected in MotorMans FREE toolbox

Any idea who made it?

No stickers or names on it that I could find. The P/O works in the movie/theater fields in NY and it was used to hold theatrical stage drawings, artwork, etc.

I picked this beautiful wall cabinet tonight off of FB Marketplace. It is an old medical cabinet from a medical supply company in St Louis MO. I couldn’t find any maker marks or labels to tell who made it, but it is made extremely well with dual pane glass in the front doors which are nice sliding doors on rollers. Funny story when doing a Google search on the medical supply company from which this cabinet came from there were some employees indicted for stealing $3.9 million dollars worth of medical supplies and laundering them to hospitals. They were caught when one of the employees died and someone found a box of money containing $382,500 in the trunk of his company car. Not sure if this led to the demise of the company but the cabinet is going to look great hangin in my shop!

Dave: nice cabinet and great find!!

interesting story too and sad to hear and know that is why some companies that made great stuff went out of business.

ALL: i've been sort of looking for locker baskets for an old locker shelving unit I own that has a couple of it's original baskets and this one came to me that has 80% of it's orignal baskets.

it's been re painted at least once and that's ok with me cause it will hold a ton of stuff.

That thing's beautiful! Great backstory, too.

I was fortunate to find another of these military cabinets. This one has been painted grey but appears to be in excellent shape. Has a pipe vise attached to the butcher block maple top.

It was in a nearby city. My cousin bought it for me and is delivering it tomorrow. :rocker:

Apparently, the drawers are full of misc. tools. Bonus casters on this one as well.

Thanks guys! It really varies with how they’re advertised. And, I see them somewhat regularly for $3-500. But, no way I can afford that much. Gotta find those deals! This one is still drab green on the inside. Well have to see how the paint comes off.

I posted this under old toolboxes but it probably belongs here as it's a home built from pine, made by my grandfather over 100 years ago. I'm in the process of removing the paint and putting on BLO and turpentine 3/1.
I know it's not metal, but I hope someone enjoys seeing it.

Thanks Jay it is for sure made intentionally well unlike most of the **** being made today. I’m sure it will out last me and as long as no fool ever leaves it out in the elements to weather away it will last a couple more lifetimes. I love the craftsmanship, little details like the beveled miter joints the were welded and ground smooth before painted. The shelf brackets have numbers stamped on every slot so it’s easy to rearrange the shelves without having to count the slots.

Solar: that’s a great looking box. It’s awesome to have something that your grandfather built and should be cherished. Good for you taking care of it and seeing it through another generation, hopefully if you have kids they will do the same. Thanks for sharing.

Yes that is a great looking box but the family connection is what makes it fantastic.

Two toolboxes came up on FB Marketplace for FREE. I messaged the seller/donor within a few minutes of the posting. Just got a message back they are gone. I'm guessing someone pretty happy right now:

Anyone ever see a box line this one? Kennedy maybe?

Whoever repainted it covered over any labels it would've had.

Picked it up for $5 because I liked the way looks.

Nothing about that one screams Kennedy at me. the divider guides in the top trays attract my eye - Maybe a tackle box?

very cool I'd have grabbed it also. and I'm trying NOT to get more carry boxes...

DaveT That is a great cabinet. I had been looking for some lab cabinets with sliding doors but I ran across a 6' long one for 5 bucks and it has regular doors so I kind of gave up on the sliding doors. I found two other lab cabinets and painted the big one to match them, now I have about 12' with regular doors, I am happy but I would have much preferred sliding I think. The bench top is 16' of bowling alley. I am still deciding which vises to bolt down to it, the 4C is so damn big and it takes so log for the handle to go around... I am also DaveT BTW.

Yeah I could say tackle box. I could see that. Looks like there was some thin dividers at some point....

WagonHo!: Thanks, yes it is a shame that things are not made like they used to be. We live in a disposable world mentality now :-(

ClimateCreator: that box has some great lines! Nice find

Pelletman: Your cabinets look great all painted the same color. Are you going to put the doors back on the middle cabinets? I really think the sliding doors on my new cabinet are nice but there are a couple down sides: 1. You loose on storage space because the two doors in their tracks take up more space then flush mounted swinging doors. 2. Sometimes it is nice to be able to open both doors open to be able to fit larger items that span a distance wider than one door.

Your bowling alley top is is a great idea. I am currently building a butcher block style workbench top that resembles a bowling alley.

You have a lot of great storage units. I like the Equipto box in the left. I’ve been keeping my eye out for one at a good price.

I got the cabinet hung on the wall tonight. The green color is a nice match with the 41-C-15 Lyon military cabinet.
