There was a pretty short time line where the ratchets evolved to what we usually see, I think 34 to maybe 37. The one in the ad we know is 35. The patent for that one should be 1981526, applied for 12/7/33, granted 11/20/34. The example I have is pat pending, (2103556) applied for 3/13/36 and granted 12 28 37. There may be one other in between version.

If anyone has any Chrome-Vanadium STEEL sockets, I have an extra empty box like the 1/4" set in that 1935 ad. I also have two 1/2" Chrome-Vanadium STEEL sockets 1" and 1-1/16". I don't want to sell them, but, I will trade with SK collectors only.

Roy sent me this wrench with some little S-K DBE wrenches. I was amused and I actually don’t know if it was made by S-K but this seemed like an appropriate place for it

Very sophisticated overall for a department store wrench. Sunken panel. Forged in sizes turned 45* on the shank. Forged in part number. Full brand name and steel composition on the largest face. And a stamped in 3xxx series model number with an emedded ISN. Williams used the 3ISN format for crude unplated DOEs with only a Diamond W logo. Bonney also used the 3ISN format for -ZENEL- DOE wrenches. But nothing else looks like Williams or Bonney, obviously. SK not exactly known for in-house end wrench production. Edit: has a McKaig Hatch ish look to it kinda sorta...

I'm curious if anyone here knows about who the Artisan brand was produced for? I am looking at a carpenter's box full of tools on an auction in a box with a badge "Gamble's Artisan" as shown below. Is this in fact the same Artisan? Did SK produce the Artisan brand for just this relatively small regional retailer, Gamble-Skogmo, based in Minnesota? Or perhaps for a grouping of loosely affiliated chains, much akin to a modern "buying group", to match the purchasing power of a Sears or a Monkey Wards?

There were hundreds of Gambles Stores by the 1930's, all authorized (and some employee-owned) franchises of the original store in St Cloud. Several sets and period ads posted throughout the thread.

Gambles house brand as far as I know not sold by anyone else.

Thanks, Lugz and OTG. I was confused by seeing product solely branded as "Artisan", and that box labeled as Gambles Artisan. Perhaps later on they were prompted by the marketing dept. to try and work their name back into the equation......

I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone has ever done enough research or accompanying empirical collection to do a timeline of the branding variants (i.e., with, without the 'Gambles' name).

Here are a couple of Artisan tools. I have no idea if there is any relationship between these and S-K, however.

Don you took me by surprise today and all I say is WOW...

I had know idea that Kraeuter (sk) made any breaker bars, now I need to find them!
That is after I can get my jaw off the ground and clean up all the drool.

Woody:)

Blake we have a list somewhere on this thread, but sk marketed tools under a number of brands, and supplied tools via contract to companies like sears, pennies, klein, gambles, pep boys, kraeuter....

I received two more Chrome Alloy combo wrenches today looking almost exactly like their S-K cousins.

This Sears set popped up on FB Marketplace in Detroit. I'll assume this is SK made?

That is a trade dress infringement if I have ever seen one (if SK filed for trade dress).

And there's this one from the same FB seller........apparently branded as Companion. I saw it and thought maybe I was on to a killer little 1/4" drive P&C set
