I keep a running log of all the tools I would like to buy, and then decrement them based off need and want (Essential or Enhancing).

These are my top 5. What are yours?

1. MATCO 3/8 Drive metric impact swivel socket set.

2. Snap on Puller set (The one in the cabinet)

3. Engine hanger

4. OTC ball joint kit (USA Made)

5. Snap on 3 drawer tool cart (KRSC30).

Just scratched off the NITROCAT (LOVE IT!!!) and a Fuel injection cleaning kit (Induction service).

why you like to buy snap on puller set in cabinet? it is cost almost 2,500 dollars for it. i got proto puller set (but not whole) as free because my tech friend said he got it at yard sale for 10 dollars fo it and he said he never use it since he bought in 5 years ago. i own used mac tool ball joint kit as i bought it used for 50 dollars and it is lifetime warranty. i own jesse james two drawers cart as i paid 250 dollars in few years ago and it is useful for me to transport between two dealership shop. i own mac tool swivel impact sockets and it is very useful to me.

i would like to buy but will need it by soon:
1. dial ind. to measure the endplay for all parts (no one in my work own it)
2. torque wrench that show how much inch lbs (not click type) it is for pinion to make sure it is in specific to avoid damage the bearing (preload)

I've been watching EBAY for ones that are under $1000.00, missed one last summer that sold for less than $700.00 because I got too busy. :(

1. Impact Swivel Set (Some sort of 8-19 in 3/8 and 17-24 in 1/2 kinda deal) (SK? Snap On? Matco?... Undecided)

2. 12pt metric impacts in 3/8 (Probably SK off a TRUCK)

3. Long 0 or 15* offset metric box wrenches (Matco or Snap On, Matco's are 50$ less)

4. Impact Driver set (or an air hammer with bit adapter... works even better)

5. Kastar/Craftsman/Snap on Thread CHASER set.

Unfortunatly, 1 and 3 are going to be $4-500, if not more:mad:.

Im going to get #2 from a local mobile dealer who is taking care of warranty stuff for me. Prices are not quite as good as TTW.net, but he is helping me out. Probably arouund 60$ or so.

Snap On! Unquestionably. I saw the difference for myself. I put a craftsman line wrench on a threaded coupler I have in a vise, and there was A TON of spread. I put a snap on crowsfoot on my long ratchet (WAY more torque) and there was hardly any spread.

PM me if your looking for SAE

This is a toughy... I'm always kicking around ideas in my head of stuff I need/want.

1) Ratcheting screwdriver.. debate is on if I want a Snap-On plastic handled one or a GearWrench w/ the "soft grip" type handle

2)Trade my Snap-On orange handled screwdrivers for some black ones or the elusive blue ones :)

3)Ball Joint Press Kit.. borrowed one from a buddy a couple weeks ago for a balljoint on a lincoln. Now I gotta have one lol.

4) newer composite style big torque 3/8" air gun... (On most import stuff I work on a smaller 3/8 gun fits better in alot of areas)

5)Low profile jack.... my regular floor jack gave up the ghost and my only other current jack is a 5 ton long frame truck jack. Its nice when you need to put something 3ft+ up in the air though :) haha

wow, that is good deal for that kind puller set.... but i am rather not to buy snap on puller set because i would not use it for anything that i did in my work. i already got 10 ton proto puller and i own more of proto pullers as it is free from my tech friend gave me for free, as i did offered him for 10 bucks that he paid it before... he said no and just take what you want. so i took it all with me and keep in my toolboxes. :bounce:

why you would like to trade your orange handle screwdrivers for other color handles? are other tech have same one that you had set?

some of snap on dealer will accept trade in but will be little low credit than what it was orignal price unless you have it as new.....

i always love orange handle screwdrivers but i had one screwdriver from snap on dealer as he had one in used sale box. beause it make me to spot my screwdrivers easy then craftsman screwdrivers....
i would like to buy used screwdrivers so i can use it anything where i want to do instead worry if it will break or damage it...

LOL,

I think you owe your tech friend a few cases of his favorite beverage!

P.S. What is his name? I would like to be his friend.

well i let him to borrow my tools that he was need to buy tool but tool truck dont come by work that he always buy from....

most of time that he did borrow my tool then he said he will buy one for himself. i said "ok". my toolboxes are next bay of his matco toolbox(four bays) he is front end and suspenions tech but do most of works too. sometime he have few vehicles back up so he had me to do the repair or work on it while i do not have any work to do ( i am part time while i am on final semester of college). also my work had me to help other techs around shop when they need my help. most of time i got it fix and it work right. i had no comeback since i work there in dealership ( had one car with small oil leaking on oil pan due to wrong sealer from part dept.)

1.) A nice set of screwdrivers ... mine are all Craftsman and are turds. Soft metal.

2.) 3/8" Universal sockets - 6 point - SAE & Metric. Dunno if I would ever use them, but want a set.

3.) Complete set of 1/2" drive sockets - deep & shallow - 6 point - SAE & Metric. Probably be Craftsman, I can't see spending the big money on the truck brands when I only use them on weekends and even then only occasionally. All my 3/8" & 1/4" drive stuff is Craftsman, but my 1/2" drive stuff is a smorgasborg of different manufacturers.

4.) A bigger compressor. Looking at a 60 gallon, 2 stage, 8 hp model currently. Would do everything I could ever want to do in a home shop.

5.) A full set of extended length full polished box end wrenches - SAE & Metric. Probably Craftsman Professional.

I'm a weekend warrior, so my needs are way less than you guys that wrench for a living. I would love to own the truck brand stuff, but can't see the expense for no more than I would use it.

no reason to skip the craftsman tool for high price tools as you can make a trip to sears to have replacement on tools than wait for dealer to get warranty for the tool replacement...

i am doing this job for my living and it is enjoy myself to work in automotive. i own lot of craftsman tools and have no problems with it but just got problem with screwdrivers as it is worn out and sockets go little sloppy than snap on sockets. so i got most snap on tools and mac tools from ebay. it is save me a tons and tons of money than spend at tool trucks and have to payment for living....

The only thing that I could think of is the SK Spline Socket set; I just finished buying the Grey Pnematic SAE socket set using the PayPal $15 off $30 deal which I really didn't need; most of my work is on metric sockets .. I sent a email off the PayPal asking about the $15 since I did not get a immediate discount .. this is what they wrote back:

I don't know. If I could find half of the stuff I've lost, I would be in good shape.

Maybe a Hilti rotary hammer. I like the Bosch electric jackhammers, too.

Some long spline wrenches and a clamp-on AC/DC ammeter would finish it for now.

Ahh thats just cause I'm a girl (kidding) and I want a set of the pretty blue ones :) haha. Actually I just kinda like most of the stuff in my boxes to match or look similar. It makes it easier to identify if a friend comes over and brings some tools to work on something or I load a few up to go work at someone elses place and vice versa.

I love the plastic handled screwdrivers but for some reason that orange just bugs me. I dunno. Blue is a weird color to find and apparently "in demand" when I see them on ebay they go for a pretty penny. I've got some of the long shank drivers in the black handle so I'll probably get black ones...

Man thats one thing I wish I had more room for.. metal fab. I'd love to learn to really work metal and fab stuff but space and budget limit me somewhat.

1. Dial indicator
2. Micrometer
3. snap on tq series torque wrench
4. small slide hammer with screw type bits for removing seals
5. A large assortment of pullers

For those guys that want a ball joint press, ebay has OTC very cheap. I also recommend an adaptor set to go with it so you can press ball joints in without damaging them.

edit: 3/8 tq torque wrench, just bought the 1/2" off ebay last week.

1: Tool cart, I hate placing tools on an engine to having them fall on the ground or walking back and forth to my work bench.

2: Oil filter pliers, makes removing oil filters on a Subaru a dream come true

3: A transmission jack, removing a ****** with a floor jack might work but installing one on a floor jack won't work

4: A new curcuit tester, mine is 25+ years old

5: All the missing sockets to fill the pegs on my Hansen trays

I too am a weekend warrior, so tool trucks are off limits for me. I do keep a list in my pocket of what I need. If I don't, I buy duplicates instead of what I need by priority. My top 5 needs (alway subject to change  ):

1. Gear Wrenches (Sears out every time I go to get a set while on sale)

2. 3/8 impact sockets (my set walked off somehow)

3. Good quality floor jack

4. Tool cart

5. Light duty wire welder (keeps working to the bottom of the list cause I don't really need it, I just want it!!)

Dear Santa,

Having been a good boy this last year, I would like the following:

1. New 3/8 drive ratchet. The detent ball is broken on mine and I'm tired of dropping sockets on my head.

2. Ratcheting tap handle to replace the joke of a tool that came with my Craftsman set. Yesterday I found myself using a 1/4" wrench instead.

3. Weather-pack crimp tool. Gosh how I love Weather-pack connectors!

4. Sockets to fill the gaps in my sets. I went so far as to make a list of them so I can keep an eye out for them during swap meet season. Some socket holders would be nice too.

5. Here's the biggie. I want a 220V MIG welder to replace my 110V flux-core unit. I'm partial to Miller and Hobart, but Lincoln would be OK too.

Ha! That was fun.
