I am willing to "shoot the moon", if the person who bought the 407 today wants to resell. I can live without the stand, but really want the vise.
RB, I didn't see that.---Was the 407 a Reed swivel jaw or what?

Thanks for chiming in!!!
I, wrongly, assumed the June 1950 based on the marks inside...Duh. Learning here.
Nothing on the slide. I looked at Keith Rucker's video, but he didn't show the removal. should I take the slide off? If so, how?
TIA!!!
Speaking of clean examples I found this truly NOS Starrett vise no 925, it has 5” jaws and weighs in at 103 lbs. The seller took it out of the box to take photos of it but it spent its life wrapped in cardboard. I’m pretty sure the vise has never been cranked open and the base is in the original shipping position.![]()

Uh, wow! I don't really have much more to say about that one.

Where in the world did you find that? I mean, really. It is unbelievable. How in the world do you go about finding something like that? You can't just stumble across them. Please do tell the secret and we'll keep the hunting local.

I have another Starrett vise no 925 that is in beautiful condition but spent its life being used in a machine shop.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210430/d4ea0148a8d7a03a073f8f7fe4d6d40c.jpg[/IMG
[wow! What a great find. They truly are a nice vise. I have the 926 that I use as my work horse in the shop almost everyday. But we have to ask how much $$$ was it? BCD. ]
CRETE: I don't own an offset vise (yet), but that HOLLAND'S (either the 4 or 6 inch ones you now own) are high on the list. nice find!!!
are you sure it's a casting flaw cause that would be the first one i've seen up there? or a welding torch gone awry?
Thanks Drives. Yes, I thought likewise on the hole. If not a casting flaw- too close with the torch or 'Dougie' wailing on something with a 3lb hammer thinking he was working on an anvil rather than a 1/2" - 3/4" thick casting...
Cheers.

Vise, those are real sweet little vises.---Like to know who made them, I know we discussed it before, can't remember if there was any resolve.---From $8.45 they are a little over twice that much now.

Thanks! That one on eBay is incredible. I’d like to know who made them as well. Perhaps Fierljeppen knows something?
I'll defer to our resident Craftsman vise no.5241 expert, "ed4banger".
However, I will cast one vote for...

Crete, if the left and right offsets get any closer, you are going to have you a new baby offset.---What are you hoping for a little lefty or a little righty.---Super rare and nice finds.---Congrats.![]()
