Got the room AC for the kitchen window out of the shade and made a close fitting plexi window for above it (last year we just used cardboard)

Not much work taking place IN the garage this morning, just a hundred trips to the garage to get tools and things to do a toilet rebuild. Had to take the tank off and replace the flush valve. Stupid crusty water followed by "iron out" tablets really did a number on the flapper mating surface. It just wouldn't seal anymore, no matter what I did. So I decided to replace the entire guts. Normally I would just replace the whole toilet, but it's a weird offset and it's built into a windowsill with trim around it. I doubt I'd get lucky enough to find a toilet of the exact same dimensions, tank and all. Oh well, it's done and it's working now. It'll be nice to not have to shut the valve off after every use, lol. It's just a seldom-used toilet, but it's nice to have it working properly again.

yesterday, put new spark plugs in the town and country, they have been in there for 105k so they were tight but they all came out ok..........remember the days when we use to change them every 10k?
Stepson's buick he got from grandma. Pretty sure those were original plugs. Ran ok but had a bit of a rough idle. lol

Yesterday I tested just how tough my Craftsman jack stands were......The truck that fell won. Truck +1 / Jack Stand 0

It's my fault this jack stand is crunched. The jack slipped putting them on a side load. They aren't intended for side loading and once it started their was no turning back. Kablewwwy.

The mode of failure sure is peculiar. I'm no weld expert, but that sure looks like the failure of a poor weld. It cracked and split right in the middle of the weld.

The remaining survivor might be going in the scrap bin or put on lawnmower duty from now on. CSS..... Cheap Chinese ****.

Luckily no one was hurt in this mishap. Stay out of the crunch zone folks and check those jack stands. These were Craftsman's from early 2000's or late 1990's. 'Labeled Straight outta China'

That set up looks a lot like the HF ones. I plan on bolting-yes bolting- a 1" strap of metal across the bottom of mine somewhere below the weld but off the floor just in case. I have looked at my old cheapy stands from the early 80s, holy ****, talk about sketchy.

Trying to rebuild 2 bird boxes. One was knocked off the tree by a truck delivering a load of gravel. Why should I spend $20 on a new one when I can spend $20 rebuilding it?

I rejoiced! After 12+ months of staging furniture in my basement and garage my recent college graduate son moved out on Monday morning to his first apartment. The bonus was that he hired professional movers! He has some physical issues that make him unable to do it himself . . . That and the list of furniture he had moved . . .

Queen bed
MCM teak desk
Matching tall dresser, low dresser and nightstand
2 barrister bookcase stacks
Lane hope chest
6' 250# Fisher console stereo cabinet with tube amp
Wall unit with bar cabinet
Leather Ikea couch
Cool vintage formica end table - think 1/2 scale formica kitchen table with aluminum edge
Several floor lamps
Small vintage office credenza/cabinet
30" 'Ice Cream' table and 2 chairs

A lot of his furniture has a 60's/70's vibe to it.

He has more furniture than Mrs No_Garage and I had in our first house at first!

I swept the right hand side of the garage today for the first time since March . . . There is some stuff on the left hand side which is a mix of junk and future projects. The junk is going to the curb at my Dad's on Friday as he has unlimited bulk pickup on Monday!

Cheers

Jim

Don't truly think this counts as "in" my garage but I picked up our little (shitbox) Fiat 500 today from the mechanic and towed it home with my new-to-me Jeep Gladiator. It towed just fine, the Jeep doesnt hardly feel it. NOT like when I towed it with my 2500HD GMC of course but just fine.

The car had been parked 250 miles away at my step son's for over a year and a half. It didn't WANT to start! Mechanic thought maybe the timing chain had broken thinking it had no compression. Nah, none of that. It didn't "feel" like starting, ha ha. What can I say, it's an Italian car and a cheap one at that. As of now we plan to keep it to tow behind our RV. It's not worth putting a dollar into anymore but it's actually sort of a fun little go kart to drive occasionally. It'll get washed and detailed later this week.

Yes, I think it was a very poorly welded component. If the weld was performed properly it should break in the base material next to the weld; tear away the material. This looks like it just cracked and split right in the middle of the weld!?

I never really questioned these until now. In fact I previously considered them my 'better' set. Not anymore, haha!

Dad has what he referred to as a heavy duty set of stands. I'm going to try his spare set and ditch the Chiner Craftsmen model. If those aren't heavy enough I may investigate new and or build my own. 👍

Sorry for the multiple messages. I could not get a single message with multi quotes to post. It kept faulting out as a single reply.

I'm thinking it was a good idea for me to throw out my first jack stands. OK, my first jack stands were bumper jacks and cinder blocks and I thought these were better.

I had those very same ones, back in the day, complete with pegs on little chains. I think they came from Kmart. Yours are a little more bent-up than mine got.

I can't believe I was ever dumb enough to crawl underneath a car held up by those.

Grabbed enough tools to inspect my S250 Bobcat.

Drive belt gave out so ordered one in. Should be here on Friday.

Also had a spare F250 dropped off on Monday. No engine or transmission but a lot of useful parts.

I sanded/grinded the surface of my steel work bench to remove the surface rust that had accumulated over the years. Then protected it with some Shark Hide.

Also cleaned and polished my vintage Crown Zellerbach paper towel dispenser and finally got the correct towels for it. I had c-folds in it and put in the correct multi-fold towels and now it works like new. I've had this dispenser for over 10 years with the wrong style towel, not sure why it took me so long to figure out I was using the wrong paper towels.

Also mounted the battery charger for my leaf blower to the wall. Much more convenient mounted.

Ended up mopping the floor, before a calling it a day.

Moved in! Time to unpack and redo the garage.

The new house has a three car garage. There is a two bay garage (pictured) and a single bay garage. All bays are heated which is perfect for Massachusetts winters!

I originally said I wasn't going to leave anything in the garage when we move.... but we had to. Currently cutting boxes and moving them upstairs before I clean up and move the cars in.

I have them too and think the same thing. I spent quite a bit of time under my cars held up with those things when I was young. Wouldn't even think of using them now but they still sit in my garage.

Cleaned off the mess I left on the lathe from Sunday. I used it to smooth out some spindles for a railing on my daughter's playhouse. They turned out pretty decent.

Best part is she uses them to go up and down the stairs! Oh and now the lathe isn't all crapped up. Winning!

Guess I missed a picture of the finished product D'ohhh

Fixing more door damage. Here’s the other side.

Notice the nice straight cut. Yes, halfway across, and stopped. Who does this?

the design created a stress riser where the crack originated.
This is why they don't put square windows in jets....any longer.

Well my Thursday started out on a bad note. Walked into the garage where I keep my 65 impala and I smell gasoline. Upon inspection I lost one of the straps holding my gas tank to the frame. So in the very near future I guess I’ll be fixing that

Pulled the front tires off the Mustang to check the brakes. Yep, pads were fine but the rotors were thin. New Powerstop pads & rotors on order from Summit. They will probably be here tomorrow.KIMG1031.JPG

Tried to find where the oil is leaking from at the top of the Escape engine. Also changed the oil in it. Pennzoil reached out to me and asked if I would try their oil in exchange I send the old oil in for comparison against this oil so that’s what I’m doing. It was all 100% free from Pennzoil so I’m sending a used Valvoline sample in then when this gets changed I’ll send a sample of this in and they compare the two and use it for their research development.

I finally got tired of the oil leaks coming from the feed gearbox on my Weiler Matador lathe so I unbolted it (bolts weren't very tight) to reseal the mating surface. While I was in there I went ahead and investigated why the feed screw F-R selector handle was sticking and popping out of gear. As usual I had to disassemble half the gearbox to get to the dog clutch that the handle operates. I found some burrs on the dogs (probably from PO's slamming gears). With some judicious filing the clutch now works smooth as silk. Ordered some new oil seals for the input and output shafts from my favorite source for odd ball sized metric seals.
