That's not what I was asking. I'm curious what the drive is between the red anodized hub & the cup, hence the snap holding them together.

EDIT: Wow, didn't expect them to only be $25, I expected more, free shipping too. Thanks for the link. Unfortunately the one they have listed for Toyota is too small for the OEM Toyota filters I use. I just emailed them asking for more details on their 74mm one. I hope that one works for me & if yes I guess I'll find out for myself about the hub connection.

You can buy both Lisle universal filter removal sockets for about that $ and remove any filter in the OD range. I know this is a tool forum, but I dont understand the desire for dedicated fit sockets. If the filter maker changes the design next month, then what?

Williams USA Metric Sockets 8-19mm deep and shallow. I have a Snap On 8mm as well, they are indeed incredibly similar bar the groove cut into the williams, and the stamping (obviously). I really like the deeper colour of chrome that the Williams have. I look forward to putting these to good use!

Nice. I've been wanting to pick up some chromes again, but since I mostly use impacts, it's hard for me to justify to myself picking up Snap On for those as well. I will have to look at Williams and what they go for.

Thanks for the suggestion but not interested in those or others. I've got Channellock & Tekton oil filter pliers. I only have so much room on top of the filter, or should I say under due to where the filter remote mount is located. Want one of those for my truck which I have owned for over 20 yrs & have been using the same filters for many years. And I currently still have 8 filters left. I buy them 15 at a time cause I get em cheap. And I'm not planning on selling my truck anytime soon, not ever actually if I can help it. I don't do oil changes for others anymore & don't work on cars for a living anymore either. I don't need that socket one but it sure is pretty & I want one.

I can understand your thinking & in the past I would have thought the same. But in my case & for my truck only, it makes a bit of sense. Doesn't look like I'll be getting one anyway cause they don't make the size I need.

I disagree with that statement, generally speaking. You really need dedicated filter sockets for some of the designs out there on modern vehicles. The two I'm most familiar with are the Toyota 4 cylinder and Toyota 6/8 cylinder engine canister type filter housings.

I've got the Blue Point versions I used when I worked in a shop;

If you're not using the right tool, you run the risk of breaking them. It's just plastic after all.
But I didn't have the dedicated sockets for BMW's so when they rolled into the shop, I had to use the old band style wrench for those. If I was gentle and went slow, the plastic housing didn't crack.

But I've got at least 2 ways of removing every oil filter... Except maybe some of the euro **** I refuse to work on.

My order from PB Swiss' last sale and a few other assorted items.

PB Swiss' bits are something to behold. These will be delegated for electronics/firearms/bike stuff. My snap on bits will take care of the grunt automotive work.

Just as an FYI, PB Swiss' profile is designed in such a way that it's compatible with DIN and JIS screws.

My Snap On dealer has this for 50% off, and since my arsenals of sockets were light on 1/4" drive SAE...they came home with me. This set includes the "extra" sizes that don't typically come with the normal socket sets. I have these on magrails now; not sure what I'll do with the fancy foam tray yet.

Another Jersey Discount Tool boot; I really like their black textured boots. I've only had great experiences with them and would recommend their boots if you are looking for alternatives to Milwaukee's boots.

Wanted an 8mm triple square hex bit socket. Koken has to be some of the best value stuff out there...I paid $6 for this.

i-RDGsNPs-L.jpg

I normally prefer locking extensions for hex bit/1/4" drive adapters...but the fit and finish on this koken extension is awesome. (I got to test fit on the tool truck before buying) Minimal play on the various sockets I had on the end of it.

i-tvBgQJG-L.jpg

Wanted to give flip sockets a try. These Malco's are the only version I found that are 6 point. Offerings from others only had 12 point. Bonus points for Malco fitting a magnet into the end of the extension.

Wheel stud installer. The luber goobers drive down lug nuts with impacts and often break or strip studs and usually they call me to go over there and fix it and I always have to borrow the tool so I decided it was time to buy it. They are especially bad about breaking them on the Subaru stuff. I got the air tool oil since the Harbor Freight bottle is too big to fit in the toolbox so it leaks because I have to lay it down so I got this.

Yep. Pretty much what my filter wrench drawer looks like, too. Other than my first band wrench, everything else was purchased to solve a problem I encountered at some point.

Hello peeps, couldn't resist to get some Lindstrom's, after reading tons of things about them (and seeing my father abusing one for decades, before destroying it on a steel cable (yes, I cried internally)).

They are wonderful ! I'd say handles look a bit cheap compared to knipex, but the cutter part looks definitively higher-end.

Big cutters are super nice too, with the optionnal spring !

It was too hard to resist at 32 to 35 euros a piece (new).

It was $2 - $3 more than all the other lookalikes, but it might be worth it. Already gave it the upside down shake test - so far, so good.

I was initially considering the Ernst, but wanted the adjustability of these. Also, these are on sale at NAPA this month for $14.49.

Careful when you purchase the Gearwrench 83129 plier organizers. They are on sale at NAPA for $14.49, BUT my local stores do not stock them AND they have to charge you freight on top of it. IF you order online, free shipping is only good over $35.00, which means you need to buy THREE of them to get free shipping and then you're at $43.47. So you need to figure out personally if its a good deal for you or not.

I got free shipping with only buying two. I was finally able to order another two last night and got free shipping with those also.

Either they changed their free shipping level - or, they are calculating it based on the pre-discount total.

I don't know why that screenshot post won't let me add text, but if you look to the right by the little truck, you see free shipping over $35.

I didn't make a cart, so I don't know if it calculates it differently, I was just taking it at its printed claim.

Interdasting. I must be special!

Edit to add: I seldom look for the free shipping level on websites anymore. Instead, I add one to the cart. No free shipping? I change the quantity to 10 or something to get over $100. Still no free shipping? I abandon the cart.

But if $100 gets free shipping, I start decrementing the quantities until I find a lower limit. Sounds like a hassle, but I do it without thinking about it lately.

1 plier rack did not get free shipping. 5 did. 3 did. 2 did - so ordered 2.

Did you order those from Amazon's Japan website? I've been wanting to buy more made in Japan tools. So far all I've got is a bunch of Vessels I could buy from Amazon (USA website).

Yes. Those 7 items were a bit over $100 shipped, around $20 of it was shipping. Still, less expensive than ordering just the Ko-ken impacts from Amazon USA.

Curious if you shopped Ko-ken USA or Palmac for price comparisons to AMZN.jp?

I did not, but looking at Ko-ken USA, the four sockets I bought would have been $125.28. Not sure if there's a shipping charge too, page froze up.

Look like Palmac is about the same as AMZN.jp then. . .

No free shipping, but code: MrSubaru5 gets you an extra 5% off your order. Plus, always the chance of free Ko-ken swag from Palmac.

Went ahead and bought a new ratchet. I love these handles and I absolutely love the color. He knocked 10% off for me too. I paid off majority of my debt today and then going to try to get the rest paid off in the next few weeks. It’s longer than a regular ratchet and smaller than my Matco locking flex head so I figured it would come in handy. Honestly I don’t want to use it because I love the color and I am worried it will get dirty but it’s going to get used because it has to pay for itself now. I haven’t shown any of my coworkers because I don’t want them getting any ideas lol. I believe they call this color Teal. I am glad nobody bought it because I had my eye on it for four weeks lol.

My order also included about $25 worth of KTC extensions, so more like $80 shipped for the impact sockets.

Be careful, the Snap On truck can be more addicting than gambling..lol

Actually, it's more like a credit card. Only with a truck account there is no interest, payment due dates or credit reports.
But every time I pay down or pay my balance, I rack it right back up again. It's been a vicious cycle for years. But I'm not complaining.

That's a nice ratchet - I dig the color too. Handles are such a dark art, but Snap On does a good job offering a several good options. Enjoy!

Nice one Blake, really like that color. You certainly have the "bug". I keep a bucket of scrubs on my box and a golf towel with the clip. Wipe everything off and dry before it goes back in the box. It'll keep its color. The "hard handles", like those, are my favorite handles, especially on the screwdrivers.

I retired from auto mechanics over 20 years ago after doing it for a living since high school (and owning my own shop), but I still have a truck account with my (new) Snap on guy. Currently $0 balance, but that could change Monday. I still work on all my family vehicles and motorcycles, plus do some small stuff on the fleet I manage at my current job.

You're adding some great stuff to your collection.

Well Blake, if you love that color then this is for you. I immediately thought of this when I saw that color.
Miami Vice Style from the 80's, it was awesome. Oh man you were born in the wrong decade

There's truth to this......I have the payment history and reining balance to prove it.....I have a problem.

Handles clean up easy Blake, I have the comfort grips and they get nasty but a good wipe down and they're almost as good as new....almost, but hard handles seem more resilient

I brought the ratchet home to show my folks and they really liked the color too. My dad was like hey son leave that in my toolbox I love that color. LOL. It reminds us all of the old Chevy Bel Air just because of the color on it they made a lot of them in that color. And it won’t get mixed up with anyone’s at the shop because the ones that have hard handles have orange or green. I love the hard handles I don’t mind the soft grip but it gets sticky.

See if your Snap on guy can get another one for your Dad. Surprise him with it. From what I’ve read, your parents support you a bunch. Would be a great gift showing how much you appreciate their support.
How much you wanna bet that won’t be the last teal ratchet in your shop?
