I have been working on figuring out the layout for the new water tanks under the house on the Hill, no matter what I do, I am going to need to chip out a decent chunk of ledge. If I break off one part, I can raise the entire area up with concrete, this way I don't have to remove as much ledge and the tanks will all be on the concrete slab. It is about two inches of concrete over the entire area, so about 3/4 of a yard of concrete will need to be mixed up. I may just make my own out of **** I have floating around here, would probably end up getting some sand, there is plenty of cement in the quonset hut (assuming it isn't already hard as a rock.....

The biggest issue I can see is the house has tons of moisture flowing under it, the stuff in my little garage space is actually molding due to all the moisture. I think a vent and a fan will help, but I may need a dehumidifier to combat this. There is no way I want to deal with mold everywhere and I can't leave the doors open all the time or I will end up with visitors I don't want. :(

Today is going to be Lista day, I hope to at least finish up the test unit, that way all the parts can be made (lots of little pieces to drill and cut) and I can figure out the x braces as well. Once the parts for the feet are made up, I can weld those to the uprights that aren't going to be modified, then those can actually be assembled and I can start using them rather than tripping over them....

Still working on the uprights, we made one of the seven oddballs, it appears to work pretty well, although the wall is a bit more out of plumb than expected.

We still have some adjustments to make, but we now have the concept down. Currently working on all the stick uprights, I do not think that any of it will be installed tonight, but at least we will have things ironed out.

Yikes, that's a hell of a lot of point loading. If i may suggest, at least put a steel coupon under the bolt head. Maybe 2x2 x 1/4 or so?

We were going to put some channel iron down, but looks like it is going to be too close to the edge, we will need to use angle iron. That was just a test fit, made the square tubes 3" longer as well. While this will take a good chunk of the weight, there are three adjustable feet, so the bottom 3' of shelving will be on the first two, then the top 7' will be on the front and rear one. I anticipate the bottom will have much more weight on it than the upper shelves, but who knows, I tend to put heavy things everywhere......

Once again, everything took longer than expected, plus I had a buddy stop by to pick up some shelving, then he took some ground rods, then he took some grip strut, it was good, I got rid of a bunch of stuff all at once, shame it wasn’t my stuff though. :( Then Dad messed up the middle of the day, then we went to get some parts and lunch, we did get three more of the regular uprights done, going to have to work on the shallow ones next, then I can cut up the last six that need to be modified. I think I have another two full days before these will be done. Every piece is a one off thanks to Lista and their loose tolerances.

It doesn't feel that way, I actually broke down how long I thought it would take to modify the uprights, I doubled that estimate and I am about double that time so far. I had anticipated remaking things and just doing an assembly line with a couple of jigs, but you really can't. It is pretty annoying knowing that it should be that way, but we ran into all kinds of issues just in the first one and after looking at the others, they are just as bad. I am including the first installation of the adjustable feet, the one that wasn't going to work, then we had to do a redesign, then proof of concept. At least now we know what we are up against. I suspect I have several hours of prepping things, making cuts, cleaning off paint, then another day to weld things up and get the x-braces figured out. Once that is done, then assembly and drawer setup will only take a few years.........

So far this morning has been bad, had to renew Perk’s registration and they made me give my old DOT number, now that is in the system even though it has been turned in, all because of registered weight. I wish I had been thinking properly, but I had waited in line and wanted to get it done. Only way to undo this is to go to main DMV office and reduce my registered weight from 69k to 54,999, essentially throwing away $200 because they won’t refund anything once it has been done. I would have changed it at the town, but they can’t do anything more than 26k, frustrating and complicated when you don’t use the truck for commercial purposes, but if I go all commercial, it turns into a nightmare that I don’t want to get into for no real reason. On top of that, since last year was the first higher weight registration and I did it in steps, I hadn’t realized the costs, it ended up being $960 and I had thought it was going to be under $600, seems like things have just been catching me off guard way too frequently, I am going to say that the lack of an office for so long is starting to really take a toll.

Then I tried to get my oil tank filled at the SG, no one answered on Friday or Saturday or yesterday, they did call me back today, but the price is up twenty cents a gallon from Friday, they are still cheaper than everyone else, but I feel like an idiot because it has gone up almost 50 cents a gallon and I new I needed to get it filled months ago.

Poor me rant is over.

Wish I could figure out how to fill my own tanks, would be nice, but seems like the "proper" equipment is fairly expensive.

I am on the hunt for some thrust bearings that won't break the bank, I need to confirm that the one I have is the same (pretty sure it is), looks like the size is 60mm ID x 85 mm OD x 17mm Thick. I have found cheap ones on amazon for about $10, but the brands that I am used to are a lot more, did I mention a lot more? These are for the rotobin, I think I need 8 of them, but I have to take full stock of that when I get back to the Hill. Right now I am grabbing a bunch of miscellaneous junk from the SG, going to hit the dump today, then the scrap yard for the light iron. I want to use Perk to get the heavy stuff gone, but that won't be today, I was thinking Wednesday, but then I realized today is Tuesday not Monday.......

X, the auction was last week, I did not attend, I only brought that one red trailer with the crappy wheels and tires over for me, then I brought Dad's camper over. The camper only did $4k, so dad won't be too thrilled, but it is gone, and that is a very good thing. My trailer did $1,500 and that is amazing in my mind, I would have sold it for $500, in fact I toyed with just scrapping it altogether as I was worried it wouldn't do more than a couple hundred at the auction. The guy that bought it has it listed for $4k and I doubt he will even get his money back, at least not without putting a lot more money and time into it. I paid under a grand for it, I think it was $800, just so I could get the tires and wheels that were on it. I ended up taking the hooks and chains off the front, swapped on 7 junk tires that do not fit the trailer (way too big), pretty much just got it so it would roll to the auction. It was a nice looking trailer, but it was tall before the tires I put on it, now if you loaded it at all, the tires would rub on the deck, there may have been a quarter inch of clearance, the pintle eye was welded on, the front beam had a bend in it, the jack worked part of the time, it was only 8' wide, the air brakes did not work and it needs some suspension work. I am very happy about the sale, I should net about $1,300 after fees.

Scrap and trash taken away, they almost canceled each other out, I think I am down $3 overall. Glad to get that done.

I think I found a home for all the other shelving, so that is good, I still have a ton of stuff to deal with, but every load feels a bit better. I am thinking about snow and it is almost 80 right now. :(

Looks like the big generator is leaving tonight as well, need to move a few burbs to get that out, still have a few more things to move around, then Clark can go over to the SG so I can move things around in the back forty.

I wrote out a plan of what needs to be done and once again it is more stuff than I can do, probably couldn’t make it happen before January, even with help. Guess I have to start shortening it up again, at some point I am going to have some real sacrifices, not looking forward to that. :(

The prices of everything is stupid high right now. My buddy bought a 14 foot dump trailer for $8k. A week later they were losted for $14k at the same dealership. I wouldn't be shocked if the one you auctioned sells for what he is asking.

I understand that, but I watch trailer prices pretty closely, around here $4k will get you a really decent 20 ton trailer, $6k to $8k will get you something that needs almost no work.

It is hit or miss for sure, but all the junkers that are currently listed have been for quite a while and they are asking too much. When a decent one comes up, they are gone quickly, right now there are a bunch of 10 ton ones, but they all have electric brakes, so I usually don't pay much attention to them. Seems like those are int eh $6 to $7k range, but very nice condition. The best deals are when a paving company upgrades, those don't usually get used in the winter at all, so they won't be rusty.

Let's see if a new day can make things better than the last few.....

On the agenda today, learn how to do ACH and regular transfers in the new online bank system, try and get inspection sticker on Perk, I have another fifty things, I am going to randomly list a few:

Plug tire on Goldfender that got a roofing nail in it :(

Install battery in lift table

Install battery in the black burb

Buy more batteries for white diesel burb

Install new batteries in white diesel burb

Cut and cap two the well heads that are dry so they aren't a trip hazard anymore

Clean up tools at the Hill

Look at rental of electric jackhammer for basement

Order some more plug kits for tires

Order some die grinder carbide burrs

Unload a gang box or four...

Fill scrap trailer with hardware from quonset hut

This seems doable so I can be home by about 8 tonight.

I also fixed the jumper cable setup on Clark, it took me a bit to figure it out, but it was the Anderson lugs, they needed to be clearanced a bit with a file. Now they work well, been a few years that they didn’t work at all and I didn’t take the time to figure it out. Glad I did, now I need to make a permanent set of jumper cables for Clark and a toolbox too.

I got the battery for the lift table installed, even found a small battery shut off designed for that style battery. I would like to eventually install a kill switch on the exterior, you have to take the cover off to get to this one, also need to install the permanent recessed plug so you can just plug an extension cord directly into it to charge the battery. This will involve a bit of investigation, I don't know if the battery charger is what draws the battery dead or if it is the solenoids running the lift pump. Hopefully the battery charger doesn't have any parasitic draw, then it can be wired to charged with the kill switch in either position. Would be annoying to "charge" the battery overnight and realize it did nothing because the kill switch had the battery disconnected.....

Got Perk inspected, also got batteries for the white diesel Burb, going to have “lunch”, then install those batteries. Unfortunately the person at the bank that was going to help me with the ACH transfers was only available while I was getting Perk inspected. I figure that was the harder thing to get done anyways since I can’t do it myself and normally I have to leave the truck somewhere for days, this was about 3 hours, but one and done. Besides, I hadn’t seen the guy in a while and we got to chat about tow trucks and other fun things. ;)
