Looks like it should have been factory fitted. Does your bug have the telescopic impact absorbing bumper mounts or the old style pressed steel ones?

It is the flat steel mounts before the shock absorber style. To comply with regulations it has an additional steel brace between the mounts and nested into the bumper.

Since work was pretty slow today I brought in my Escape. The passenger door hasn’t wanted to shut unless you slam it. It appears the latch isn’t functioning properly so I’m going to replace it once I know for sure that it is the issue which I believe it is. The striker looks pretty worn as well so I’ll probably go ahead and do that as well so I won’t have to worry about it later. As much as I hate taking door panels apart it’s part of being a mechanic lol.

It wasn't "today," but it was recently.

Replaced the CCV chamber gaskets on my wife's car and installed a double DIN radio with GPS.

You may already have considered and done this, but I would recommend to keep the original radio and store it. Personally, I like having the original radio available if I choose to sell the vehicle later. Some people prefer the stock look, and certainly on a trade-in they don't credit for the aftermarket radio, and may actually ding the value a little for not having the original radio (and its appearance) in the vehicle.

I don't have to worry about trade it in as I'll never buy a new car. This is a '98, and, by the time we've added another couple hundred thousand miles to it, it won't be worth anything, anyway.

If it were something special, or a newer car we might trade in, your idea would be quite valid.

I'd check the door hinge bushings 1st. That is if your Escape has such.

where did you get that from ? never seen one so inexpensive. that would certainly handle anything I would ever need.

but just a heads up, pilot arc is unreliable over 30psi.
My 3/8in cut pictured above needs a lot more air. Should be running 90+psi on that. But it will work flawlessly on thinner material.

Learned my gas leaf blower needs the fuel lines to fit tight and sealed into the gas tank. Lesson learned after taking carb apart etc. BUT... it does prime and start easy now.
Of course it was too late to use it after repair.

Put some paint samples up on the walls to select the color for the walls- ended up choosing ”Ice Cube” from Sherwin Williams. Hopefully it will turn out well!

Hung the doors for the cupboard under the stairs. Cleaned the shop. Recycled a bunch of scraps. Put away a bunch of stuff. Fixed a cutting board. Dragged out the materials for the stair treads. Dragged out the planer and connected it to the DC. Planed the first tread to size. Cut it to rough shape. Glued it up. Dumped the DC drum. It was half full. Serviced the final water trap on the compressor.

I keep doing yet another project during a project during a project during a project.

A couple oak-veneer plywood 'desk' and shelf surfaces for my father's home office. A better solution will follow later, this is an interim as they've just moved in recently.
In between adding poly coats to these I'll be commencing the long-delayed travertine tiling in the kitchen and dinette area.
And trying to get back to excavating the new footings for my back yard pergola pillar project.

/... then there's the CV axle replacement on the Suburban... some bathroom faucet swaps... some kitchen drawer repairs...

And in the middle of all that, a couple upgrades to my reloading press.

Helped my SIL build a window bench seat for their house. The hard part is done as we just need to trim and router the lid, then sand, prime and paint. And yet once again, a GJ induced purchase of a new tool (Festool track saw) made this project much easier!

It was an eventful day in the shop today.

I had a huge list of things I wanted to do and almost got to do some of them.

I started off with an oil change on the truck, which got interrupted a dozen times by the wife asking for help with things.

Then I built a new camping wagon while watching the Texas A&M football game. This is the old camping wagon inside the new camping wagon.

Then I got interrupted by the son who wanted to build a tank, so we built a tank.

Then I started modifying the front wheels on the collapsible wagon that I modified months ago. There's a design flaw in the current front wheels that allows the rotating bearing to pop out of the wheel mount. The new design will capture the bearing between two plates.

I then got interrupted by the wife, daughter, and son all needing things for their projects... although one interruption was the wife bringing me a beer, so I can't complaint there.

I had bought a new hole saw for the new bearing blocks. It was cheap... it lasted half way through one hole :/ ... So now I ordered a 35mm and 32mm drill bit to accomplish what I was trying to do with the hole saws.

The hole was looking nice before it broke, and it fits the bearing just about perfect.

Finally, we started setting up the Halloween decorations on the front of the house and I found out that my House LEDs have a busted led causing half a string to just flicker... great. I'll deal with that tomorrow.
