A bit of clean and prep, and then final coats of varnish today.

Getting it ready for a wet test, then it’s going back to the gentleman who built it.

I asked him to come to the shop because I had a question for him about the boat.

He came and admired it for a bit, then asked what question I had for him.

“Do you have a place to put it?”

He looked a bit puzzled.

I told him I was giving it back to him if he wanted it.

He still looked a bit puzzled.

Anyway, it should be back to it’s original owner/builder by next week!

Yesterday I went down to the marina to check on the boat. Found that I’d forgotten to turn off the batteries/accessories. Dead batteries.

Put the charger on for a few hours, and again this morning.

Still felt like it needed a “Charging Cruise” to get them up to full.

Beautiful October day! Perfectly clear and no wind. Went for a couple hours of solo boating.

Making templates tonight off of some very old Alaskan Yellow Cedar spoon oars for future reference.

The oars predate the old skiff.

Weather permitting, we are going to wet test the skiff tomorrow.

Oyster Jim is pretty dang excited!

Just think, Riven- someday soon you'll actually have both oars in the water.;)

But not today.

Had plans to launch today, but the weather turned on us. Forecast looks better tomorrow.

I did get one last family portrait session in before the rain

I'm not sure why I think I'll find pictures of a table in this thread.

I'll share an island I made for the wife's kitchen redo this year though.

Stainless Steel top 36" x 48"
cookbooks in first end
stainless wire baskets accessible on either side for potatoes, apples, etc.
drawers for knifes and cutting boards
garbage and recycling bin on other end

Not as fancy as your handiwork, but I made it up myself.

Almost rocked me to sleep.

Took my buddy in to have the vet check on cysts developing on his back end. This is how he came home. Vet said the first one smelled so bad that he had to remove five more in the area. They were rotting under his skin. 20211103_164308.jpg

Thanks, Royce!

Onto yet another diversionary project.

I’m constantly keeping the community boat launch clean.

Between pushing the junk driftwood off into the channel and pulling in anything that looks promising, I figured I needed an old fashioned logger’s pike pole.

Any normal person would just order one off Amazon.

I’m figuring to make my own.

A little scrounging, and I came up with the end of a spud wrench and a meat hook. Perfect 👍

Now I just need a pole😬

Nice welds, Riv. They look just like mine- ground until invisible. ;)

Found some suitable, tight grained DF for the pole. A bit of a challenge to fit the odd shaped tang. Hoping it will provide some resistance to twisting.

Had a nice storm come through last night along with a high tide. Coastal flooding alert on the weather app.

The channel was filled with logs and debris.

It’s been a good day for raincoats and rubber boots on the dog walk. And goofing off in the shop👍

When you need a pike pole, but don’t care to use Amazon.

Used the pike pole to pull in a couple logs last night. It was too dark to deal with them then.

Better go sharpen the chainsaw now

A little more F’n around, on my last day of leisure.

Retrieved the main part of the log from the channel.

The Gheenoe trailer worked great, but I had to cut the stump off as the log was still too long and dragged on the ground.

It makes some nice yard art til I get it dried and cut up. Looks like it’s going to have some amazing grain and spalting.
