I had a few different wrench sets in my Amazon.de cart from both Stahlwille and Hazet. I had a notification that the price had dropped on one of the sets so I went ahead and placed the order for the Stahlwille wrenches. They should arrive in about 10 days. This is the first time I’ve ordered from Amazon outside of the US, hoping this process goes without any problems. Here’s the set I ordered-

I ordered a set of Hazet wrenches about 6 months ago on the Amazon Global Store. It shipped from Amazon-Germany and the package was in tatters by the time DHL left it on my front porch. It looked like it had exited the aircraft at 1000ft. I was very surprised the wrench set did not exit the package. Fortunately the set came with a foam case and the wrenches were undamaged.

That's a nice set!

Needs 6mm-9mm to be a bit more complete, but those can be non-Stahlwille if needed.

I agree - excellent choice. Enjoy in good health. No worries from Amazon.de - been doing that for years.

Firstly be careful it may lead to a life long tool addiction!!

I'm terrible and cannot decide, I have sets from both manufactures,

Stahlwille -Motor 10, Stabil, open ring 24,Corona 23,Stabil 20

Hazet-600N,600LG,610N.

Probably makes sense to start someone with a combination set, I love my 600n's and probably use them the most. I'm sure the Stahlwille equivalent 14s would be just fine.

I use the motor 10s for setting up routers and other machines, as they are compact compared to the longer tools.

All my sets are metric I can just see my self having to get the opposites of each in imperial...

6-9 mm aren’t frequently used and the deal on this set with larger wrenches would more than offset needing to buy a few small wrenches. He has some old Craftsman wrenches

I’m thinking of getting a set of Wright SAE wrenches to compliment the Stahlwilles.

Actually 7mm and 8mm (especially 8mm on newer cars) are common depending on what you are working on. And 9mm is the bleeder size for many European cars. I use them fairly often.

He is set up , you picked well. And Wright in SAE are an excellent choice.

The things he works on might occasionally have 8mm and that is covered with some US Craftsman wrenches he already has. This set with the larger wrenches dropped really low on price, $163 USD shipped. For the savings compared to the sets with smaller wrenches he can continue using the other 8mm or buy those separately.

i absolutely love the feel of both the 13 and 14 pattern stahlwille wrenches. the "rounded i-beam" feels great in the hand yet is still very light..no slick chrome and forged in lettering. i have not handled hazet however..but both of these brand wrenches crush all competitors in my opinion. great prices for the lifetime quality of these too.

Be sure to post and let us know how he likes them.
It is a Christmas gift so will be a little while. I wasn’t expecting to find a hot deal on them so quickly. And with all the shortages and shipping delays I wanted to get them in order sooner than later. I will post up when he gets them!

I would advise against a long set (Hazet 600LG) despite how nice it may be if your friend doesn't plan to work on cars. And even then, if you don't have a lift and work on the car on ground you'll find yourself running out of space to use a long wrench. Go with either of the options discussed, based on the deal you find.

An extra long set should always be paired to a standard length set as they will be too long much of the time.

I hadn't heard of these brands previously, and after doing some digging I might need to phase out my wrench drawer in favor of one of these sets.

Having Wrights or the like for your SAE wrenches and Hazet or Stahlwille for the metric set seems like a cool way to go, if for nothing other than the quirky factor.

Oh man, this forum is gonna cost me a lot of money...

I orderd some Stahlwille spanners from amazon (us, not de), which were shipped from Poland via DHL. The box had tire tracks on it, was torn open, and was wet. Didn't need to use a knife to open that box, but the the wrenches were there and undamaged.

They have arrived 5 days early! The packaging is beat to pieces and the USPS taped the outside shipping box back together. The box inside is torn up to but all contents are accounted for inside. Beautiful set of wrenches that have a nice feel to them.
Thank you all for the recommendations!

I have an amazon addon that tracks prices, if you got them for 119e you got a killer price! Regular price is 199e

I happened to check my saved cart at the right time! Probably should’ve bought both sets available.

About two months ago I ordered the 10 piece Stahlwille series 14 from Amazon.de. They came in typical plastic tray packaging. Box arrived in really bad shape with the wrenches rattling around loose in the box. Surprisingly only the smallest, 8mm was missing. Rather than mess with returning the set I just bought an 8mm replacement from Amazon.com. If I do that again, I will probably look for sets packaged toolrolls not trays. Even with buying the replacement, the set was just under 60% of buying it on Amazon.com.

I have the same set of Stahlwille from Amazon.de. The last time I looked they wouldn't ship to the US but that may have changed. I have a set of VV Craftsmen that have served me well for decades, but I always reach for the Stahlwille's first.

Final update- He LOVED the wrenches! He unwrapped them and said “European wrenches!! From Germany!!”
He wants some SAE wrenches from them now LOL.
I plan to get him a set of a Wright or Proto wrenches for his SAE set.
I appreciate all the responses. I think either would have been a hit. Maybe some Hazet or Gedore sockets/ratchets are in his future?

For a short while I had different makes of wrenches for quicker selection of SAE, Metric or Whitworth in my road box.

I abandoned this idea after concluding that the consistent feel of the lightest and strongest wrenches suited me best.

YMMV
