Vintage ratchet detent location (1/2" Plomb) and socket set recommendations?

I've got a decent pebble 1/2" ratchet but the ball detent doesn't quite click in my modern sockets (my other 1/2" have the detent further down the anvil it seems. Is this an issue with 3/8" plomb wrenches as well? It'll hold a modern socket, just not as tight as it should and I fear rounding the anvil if socket slips

Which socket set(s) will work w/this type of detent, SAE only? or good odds of finding metric too? The mechanism's tight and I'd rather not rebuild w/proto kit just to get a modern anvil.
