No way.... I love the old two-stroke castor smell.... Fond memories.
I need to pick some up. Have to go to the local bike shop today on what will probably be a futile exercise in looking for some sort of back armor/brace. Need something owing to a shitload of spinal compression fractures. Nurse mentioned them to me last week, didn't occur to the useless ******* quack Dr to tell me in the three years since my last spinal MRI.... Could have done something about them in that time...

ZRX, I just last week tried this back brace for back spasms that were beginning to flare up (I've had it in the closet for years, first time trying it - I just happened to be looking for something else and spotted it..)

I like it -Its easy to get initially wrapped around, then you pull in the cinch strap (First pic), the "girdle cinch" in the back tightens up, and Bob's your uncle. All Velcro for the belt and the cinch, so very easy. You can adjust to the exact pressure you want.

It worked great and I only needed it most of one day - I may wear it again today as I'm feeling some strain back there.

Put another coat of paint on the interior garage door trim. Took the diamond grinder cup to the driveway to remove paint. I used Krylon rattle cans to paint the gate last month & they dripped paint all over the place in spite of having rags around the cans. Never buying Krylon
again.

Not today, but Thursday I got a couple of coats of paint on the poles for the string lights. Put them up yesterday after the rainstorm passed thru, but no pics yet.

I need something like that, but today's search was for something to wear on the bike. Actually found something..... & then forgot about the Castrol R...

Too windy to do anything outside, so I spent a chunk of the morning cleaning up the garage. Been getting a lot of stuff cheap or free lately and it's been stacking up with too many other projects going on.

Finally a break in the heat and humidity here. Got a couple of those been bugging me too long deals finished. Used stuff that was on hand. Not interested in a $200+ cooler, or a net thing for the top. Hopefully this will keep the cheese, brats and dogs from floating around with the beers after a day or so. Old Glory kept coming loose from the wallered out old holes in the hollow metal front porch column. Tried every anchor and toggle bolt previously, but kept coming loose. Just drilled a couple holes on the backside and ran a threaded rod through there. She looks beautiful. Hope it lasts.

Wife told me her EZ Go Workhorse golf cart's brakes went to the floor. Added brake fluid and went to bleed brakes. Driver side bleed screw no problem. Passenger side won't budge regardles of wrench and sockets used. Applied liquid wrench with no hope of success. Fire and heat tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Also a suggestion, with a light setting on an impact gun, bang it "tight" for a few hits, before trying for "loose".

You may have already tried this, just thought I'd thrown it out there as I just faced semi-frozen bleed screws on my Ram.

I also took a wire brush to whatever threads were exposed, and then reapplied penetrating oil.

I hate stuck bleeder screws, especially since I'm in the rust belt...

Narrowed the hub of a Cast Iron pulley by sanding it with a belt sander. The generic pulley hub was too wide to replace the original pulley on a 100 Amp Alternator. We sanded it until the set screw hole was eliminated.

Following that we Re-bored the 5/8" shaft hole to 17mm.

i don't have a Lathe or Mill, so had to make do with Woodworking Tools.

I put 4 tires on my brother in laws car yesterday. Today done a misfire diagnosis he has the same V6 that I do. His cylinder 2 was misfiring it’s the coil that’s bad. So we are going to do 6 coils and 6 plugs on Wednesday when the parts arrive since the back requires a good amount of disassembly. We got NGK coils because that’s what he could afford and Autolite plugs because I will only run Autolite or Motorcraft in a Ford. I put Autolite in my Escape last year so far no isssues. I got him the double platinum the OE is platinum. The reason for my choices despite what others may believe but I’ve not had any luck putting anything other than Motorcraft or Autolite in a Ford and Double Platinum because you don’t want to go too low or too high it will cause issues like it did in our Jeep. I know some members may not believe that but I’ve done enough plugs in my life to know what to use and not to use from past issues with various brands.

Well, today I decided to list for sale a few mowers. A fella has a bead on a decent ZT for sale for a good price, so some of these lawn tractors gotta go (to make room and cash lol).

So, decided to put the deck back on the craftsman 42”, aired up a tire, and went and mowed with it. It’s gonna go to a different owner maybe tomorrow. Sad to see it go, but after being sick all last week, and then having to mow some overgrowth, I’m thinking a zero turn would be better for now (tractor with a 3 point eventually though).

Can’t be sentimental about it, it’s all part of the plan. Upgrade, upgrade, upgrade.

Decided last night to find a way to protect the radiator better on my John Deere 2305. While waiting for new radiator to arrive next Tuesday I started to look around the shop for some hog wire to weld to the useless grille guard. I found something interesting and it was some old steel shelving that I forgot to take to the scrap yard the last time I made the steel scrap run. That is when the light bulb in my brain flickered for a moment and I got my guard the shelving and I had a perfect brush guard. Taking it and cutting it to fit it came out perfect and I went over to the neighbor and he mated the shelving with the grill guard and now I have somewhat better brush guard. The price was perfect zero dollars. The weld is not good looking but after all it is a tractor and it will work better then nothing tempImagez98ebm.png

I've come to a similar conclusion over the years with my German and European cars. I almost always used Bosch plugs in those, but have migrated to NGK, mostly, for those. I have one Japanese car, a 350Z, and that gets NGK's, as well.
I replaced plugs last year on Jetta I had bought, and I shook my head when I pulled Champion plugs out of it. You don't do that (in my mind) to a German engine!

Was finally able to finish hanging the Hardiboard siding on the garage addition with the help of a friend. Caulk & paint is next if the nice weather holds out, but it's not predicted to be such. It's fine for now.
Inside needs the ceiling metal installed and then garage doors can be moved.

Cut the rotten plywood floor out of the trailer. Ground the rusty spots. Welded in 2 extra crossmembers. Painted the bare bits. Prepped and installed the new floor boards. Screwed them down. Rolled and welded in new tailgate hinge rings. Painted them up. Kicked the trailer out. Cleaned up n put away.

Reminds me of Saturday nights at the old Elsinore TT track back in the 70s
@techkelly -
Was there a track in Elsinore? Or, do you mean Perris?

I used to race TT & FlatTrack every Saturday at Perris in the later 70's.
Work all day Saturday - Parts sales for Harley/Honda/Yamaha dealer downtown L.A. - and then head out to Perris to race Saturday night and then, quite often, head out to El Mirage dry lake, sleep in the van, and play ride on Sundays. Swap the 19" wheels for 18" & 21" knobbies and away we go.

I joined that club when I was only about 18, and it was a fingertip, not a thumb. Doc saved it, but it still feels funny 40+ years later if I think about it.

I'm glad to have got that out of the way early, LOL. :D

Over the years I have hewn to the rule of thumb: AC for GM, Autolite for Ford, Champion for Mopar, German plugs (Bosch) for German engines, and Japanese plugs (NGK, Denso) for Japanese engines. But if you say NGK is working well in your German engines, that's good to know, although tbh it's not likely to be of any use to me because I've sworn off German cars after the last two became maintenance headaches.

Trivia time: "AC" stands for Albert Champion, who could not use his own name for his new company after he left Champion Spark Plugs.

Elsinore. It was off I-15 and Railroad Canyon. I was an MXer, Putting on some K-70s and go sliding on a saturday night was a
fun diversion. I spent the first 23 years of my life in Hemet. Saddleback, Carlsbad, De Anza, Rawhide, Corona, Perris, Elsinore.
Was familiar with all of them.

Welcome to The "Been There, Done That" club.

Those that have, those that will. It's not a matter of IF, only a matter of WHEN!

I first joined that club when I was about 5 or 6. My bicycle had a locked up rear hub, and no chain guard, My older brother had his and my bikes upside down, and was spinning the wheels about as fast as he could using the pedals. (Who knows why... kids...) I got it into my head that it was going to damage my bike to be doing that as the pedals on mine were spinning - using my left hand ( :dunno: I'm a righty; always have been. I even verified that with my mom last year..), I "Chased the pedal and then lunged in for a grab. I missed and my middle finger tip got caught in the sprocket. and went through a cycle. Mangled it and nearly took it off - Off to a doctor!

The tip was hanging by a corner near the middle of the nail on the pinky side, and otherwise was flopping around (yes the nail was busted - so was the rip of the bone I think) The Doc cleaned it up and said he could take it off, or simply fold it back over and hope it stayed and healed. It was wrapped thickly in place with gauze, and most of the finger was covered.

It did grow back on, but I have this ugly half diagonal, half straight scar across the ball of my left middle finger. Yes the bandaged finger got smirks and eye rolls from adults as It looked like I was flipping the world off. While it healed, that finger is about 1/8 to 3/16th longer than my right middle finger. and I'm now completely right handed, my left is not nearly as coordinated. I think I subconsciously stopped using the left unless forced to.

At a glance it doesn't look too bad, but the scar is clearly visible, and the nail has an odd "trim area". I'm just lucky to have that fingertip still.

Not too different from mine:

20220620_132002.jpg

Ring finger, right hand. Dropped a transmission on it and mostly severed it. (A floor jack and bricks and pieces of wood are not an acceptable substitute for a proper transmission hoist, kiddies. Learn from my pain.) Like you, I lost the nail, but unlike you, mine grew back normally.

In my workshop I pulled a cast iron pulley off a shaft. The remarkable thing is I don’t have a puller; I rigged up a length of angle, some wooden blocks and a pair of “C” Clamps. Good thing that the pulley was not a press fit.

Couldn’t leave the new to me mower broken. So I pulled the carb off for a cleaning. It sat for a year before I bought it, as it was too heavy for her to push, since the self propel is wonky.

Found a bit of crud clogging some passages, and a fine sediment layer in the bowl (no pics unfortunately).

Back together and running decently again.
