Here’s my finds from the ES SWMBO and I went to today and yesterday. She wanted go back for 50% off. Well no more free booze but between yesterday and today I picked up:
  • Craftsman B/W wide tape
  • Utica pliers/mail puller
  • Barcalo Pliers
  • 2 Craftsman screw drivers
  • Wright small breaker bar
  • Stanley pliers
  • Corona pruning saw
  • Ton of peg board hardware
  • Rail of Craftsman 1/4” sockets
  • PVC tube full of assorted Craftsman 1/4” drive sockets.
  • Empty PVC storage tube
All for about $20. B4AB0FA6-530F-4487-BDEC-8859260E177F.jpeg

This pile was between $1 - $3 per item. Cute little 4" CM adjustable.

P1100331.jpgP1100332.jpg

Like new 5" Wilton mechanics vise for $40 (made in USA). The 3/8" acetal sheets were $1/ea. The Electrix 24" magnetic machinist's lamp was $1.P1100335.jpg

That's a Sucky little pile!

I recently bought a (new) pair of those Fiskars garden trimmers, razor sharp!

Picked up the items I won in an online auction earlier today.

The best deal I think was the Chas Parker No 985 “Big Bear” service station vise and the Prentiss No 162 vise which were in the same lot which brought a total $29 including the auction fees. The 985 has had the dynamic jaw brazed back together but looks to have been done fairly well a long time ago. The Prentiss was stuck but after about 5 minutes of pb blaster it started to move again and after 20 minutes of working it in and out I was able to get it completely apart and it seems to be in good shape.

9BB419D7-CB50-4388-A2A6-4DFF88B1C0A5.jpeg
The next lot I got for $1. It consisted of a strange air pump, some camper shell clamps, an assortment of toledo threading dies, and an Armstrong Bridgeport threader with a set of inserts. I think they will clean up well.
8512F45B-745F-42FC-9934-01DFF265CB4E.jpeg
After the those two lots I splurged a bit and bought a couple lots of craftsman wrenches. Roughly $30 for the metric set and $25 for sae and another $26 for the 1-1/16 thru 1-1/4.

The next lot was a shot in the dark as I wasn’t sure what all was in it since I didn’t make it to the preview. But for $15 I got the craftsman tool box, indestro super 3275 ratchet, some craftsman 1/2” drive deep sockets, 3/8” deep sockets, a few 1/4” sockets, and then a bunch of “companion” brand sockets that will get donated or sold. I also ended up bidding on 2 coolers that I won for $3. Both USA Coleman. I have been looking for a nice mid size cooler.

For $1 a foot I also bought two 3/8” chains with hooks. One is 10 foot and the other 25. The prehung ext door was from a coworker to replace a storm door that is installed on our garage which I dislike becuase I cannot lock or unlock from the outside. EF969B83-5B78-4CC2-8A81-C9AAF8620A81.jpeg

Picked these up today. $0.50 each at the flea market. And left behind the cool Blackhawk set and Matco ratcheting wrenches at the pawn shop. The pawn shop had a ton of Snap On too but the pricing isn't really enticing.

The Plomb is a cool little thing. Don't know if it came this way or someone who owned it reshaped it to have the 90* at the open end.

I bought the Craftsman one just for the long C/underline logo.

The Bonney DOE stubby is cool.

And I can't wait to use that solid/beefy punch.

That is a standard combination wrench that someone bent. Plomb did make special tools on request, but that has the standard combo wrench model number.
Wow, that Blackhawk...I'd be trying to chisel them down a bit!
Definitely. And if no, I might have to just bite the bullet on that. That's a knee-buckler. I have never seen one in a cardboard box before.

Are you talking about the one I posted?

I don’t even know if the set is complete. I can go back and see if the pawn shop will budge.

If you look at the picture you can see some sockets are 12pt and some are star(?). I have no idea what’s supposed to be there. lol

YES! It's the No. 30X set! Thirty (30) pieces. See a picture and the detailed contents in the 1953 catalog available at IA/ITCL. It's missing the rat and a hinge handle for sure, and a longer extension, but it's fairly complete. To be honest, even if it was LESS complete I would be jumping at it. I have never seen one in the original cardboard box before. Most of the sets came in various steel boxes, of course, including the famous "torpedo" or "bomb" shaped boxes. The 30X was an economy line thing, but super cool in my opinion. Lots of bomb and square boxes out there. But, again, I have never seen the cardboard box.

Nice. I’ll go back today and see if the pawn shop will budge. They never do though.

And when I was in there searching garagejournal for information all I could find was that red torpedo/Electrolux vacuum looking thing lol.

The card insert has a cartoon or something on the back of it too.

I’ll post up when I get home with it.

Thank you for your insight. I read most of your posts and am blown away with the knowledge drops.

Went back to the pawn shop and asked them what's the lowest they'll go on the Blackhawk set. They returned fire with, "what are you suggesting?"

I told them it's missing the most coveted piece of the set: the ratchet. And that it seems to be missing quite a few of the 12pt sockets which were supplanted with the star sockets. It's missing an extension and also has random other pieces in it from Indestro and MasterGrip.

"How about $70? Provided that your price tag stickers come off without tearing the box up."

They bring it up to the counter, start peeling the stickers off, and it caused a bit of damage to the cardboard box.

"I'm thinking $50 now. The value just got crushed because of your stickers."

They reply, "we don't base value on its collectible value, we go by what did it sell for on Ebay."

I flex back, "Ebay is literally about the collectible value. It's why you see the Beauty and the Beast VHS tape sell for $10,000 sometimes. And yeah I saw that last Ebay listing that sold for the Blackhawk (complete lie) and it was a complete set, with the ratchet and the box was in really good shape."

"Ok, $50 sounds good."

I guess I'm now fully initiated in the GJ community since I now need to hunt for all the missing pieces to this 1953 Blackhawk 30KX set :D

Gaaaaaah! Feckin' eedjits!
On a side note, the locking feature of the sockets on the detents is awesome.
That is common to all drive sizes and is called, quite literally, "Lock-On." :)

Soooo jealous. If you didn't buy them, I was going to!! You should post that on the Blackhawk thread, which will cause some excessive drooling. The branding on the top of the cardboard box is very much in line with other marketing, but I am pretty sure the marketing and 'Get on the bandwagon!' imagery on the reverse side of the lid flap has never been seen before.

And some of it is really funny!

"Nuggets make a good man even better!" could be a double-entendre, for example. :)

Well, if you're going to get one, and your first is the 2019 Picker of the Year Trophy ****-O-Meter gauge (built by @BlueBomber, and the button actually works!), you're doing pretty dang good in GS thread terms!

Thank you, lol

I'm already looking around on the web for the missing pieces. One thing I noticed is that the bullet handle has two grooves in them that should have red paint. Most everything I'm seeing for the breaker bar, for example, is missing the red paint.

Meanwhile the red paint on the handle of my speeder looks brand new.

I won't sully the Blachawk thread with dollars and cents, but the going rate for Blackhawk Nuggets sets of comparable completeness that come in the...
red torpedo/Electrolux vacuum looking thing
...is upwards of $300.

Comparable near-complete sets without the "red torpedo/Electrolux" box or any other kind of box, just a misc lot of homeless 7/16-inch drive pieces, go for upwards of $175.

Since you've been reading my posts you know I like a bargain as much as the next guy, but I don't get overly excited about bargains for common tools, and, conversely, there are some things that are so cool they transcend the price. But I will go into deal mode to say you got a steal!

Thank you for the details. I will probably never use this set for wrenching on things but it is already a cool bit for me and give me something else to do (try to find the missing 7/16" drive pieces).

Thanks for the tip on that! I never could find out how you know if cylinders are rentals or owned. Neck is clean on the oxy, thank goodness. Where would a mark be on the acetylene?
I don't know about marks, but at least one supplier uses different valves on acetylene bottles to separate owner and rental ones. The owner bottles have a female thread in the valve, and the rental ones use a male thread.

I also got the craftsman spinner handle for $2.00 believe it or not. The little vise hasn't any name or numbers, but look kinda similar to a Stanley I have.
The P&C pliers wrench is the second one I've found, but the other has a different logo.
I also got this old, old sanding block.
Really like the design.

I'm off to the first local flea market of the year, I'll post more pics and details later to the appropriate threads.
Wish me luck!
Update on the vise, while cleaning it up I revealed the Stanley Sweetheart logo on the slide!
It was a good day.

This one is very clean for $2.

Forgot this lot.
Stopped at a yard sale where looked like widow was selling husband's tool collection.
They were all cleaned nicely and priced at $2. choice.
I left behind a bunch of Utica pliers & whatnot, but these 3 appealed to me.

Wow, lots of ****-ing there! Especially the chains, wagon and Harley box!

I have an old killer box fan too, passed down through generations. Thermostat broke off before it came to me. Still works (3-speed, with push buttons)!

While travelling for work ,I had some time to kill today as our install is in the evening, less than 3 miles from the hotel was a flea market advertised on FBM. Indoors, open 10 to 5 so about 45 minutes of wandering netted this pile, just pulled out for quick pics then back in the car.

4BN ViseGrips I picked up this weekend. They were missing the spring. New pack of springs arrived from Amazon. Restored. First pair I’ve ever found. Would love to find a pair of 6BN.

I don't know the significance of those numbers, but you can never have enough good pairs of Vice Grips! And, I seem to continuously use the needle nose variety more than any other type.
