In the time honored family tradition, I got the heck out of the house on this rainy day. I didn't expect much, and so wasn't disappointed. Here is most of what I found:
52479495737_1c275ba326_c.jpg
A very nice first of Sean O'Caseys collected verse and prose, Herbrand extension from the '40s, Wright 3400, Snap-on TM75A, a SK spinner (earmarked for Don) and a set of Crowntop wood chisels.

Not pictured, mostly because it is upside-down in the back of my truck still, is a steel tanker desk that is going to become the bench for my new(ish) lathe. A perfect size of 5'x2-1/2' with single drawer, best of all it was free. And even loaded for free! Tomorrow I am going to disassemble it for storage in the garage until I get to the point of needing it.

Today I wasn’t expecting much and only had time to hit one sale near my house. It was a fancy house with more garage square footage than my entire house and I was jealous of that for sure😂. Found a few goodies and it was 1/2 off day so all this was $41😂. Found a dresser, Proto la hack saw, Proto la socket, craftsman cotter pin puller and ratcheting nut driver, craftsman long c amber handle screwdriver and this cool bardhal fender cover, and wood apple box. Also got this sweet craftsman wood grain rallye creeper for a friend.

Oh I also forgot that I got the 230v craftsman crown top welder and accessories as well. Looks rough but it’s just dirty. The brushed aluminum surfaces still have their plastic covering on them so it will clean up nice!

As I always say, if you're going to go to the flea market (Lugz 2022_49) and come back home with only one item, it had better be pretty good. I happen to think this one meets the requirement if I do say so myself!

I think these little bottle jacks may have been giveaways at the 1934 World's Fair, but they're real, not fake. I'll probably do a little research and a write-up in my thread.

Maybe it was the inspiration for E.B. White to give Stuart Little a car?

Lugz, that jack is the real deal - a machinists jack for supporting a work piece. I have one, Smitty on the Vices thread has several I belive. They can go for $$ too.

And Smoke, Yes; that is where mine is.

Yes, I know. As I said...
but they're real,
I'm pretty sure that this one is from the 1934 World's Fair, though. Unless they continued making them with the 1934 World's Fair emblem for decades and decades later, which I find unlikely. See my thread later.

EDIT: @Outlawmws If yours are Templeton Kenly SIMPLEX bottle jacks, I'd be interested in seeing the markings on both sides.

Link to more...

@Levaughn - do you suppose we could get a larger photo image of the "Raleigh" bicycle tool kit? Maybe in the bicycle wrench thread?
I am particularly curious as to the contents and the manner of construction of the pouch.
I am assuming the zipper is brass? The outer case is covered with a "fake leather" type material?

I had a Raleigh Rampar :rocker:Tricked it out with Z-Rims, Redline Flight Cranks, V-Bars, Oakley 3 Grips, Bear Trap Pedals, and I can't remember the name of my goosneck or my breaks. I do remember they were red anodized aluminum..lol Started out with some 3 piece billet cranks, but I was a little too rough on them.

My guess is that your “Unknown socket with groove” is a valve grinding socket missing some parts. Here is my Indestro version.

Well I haven't found any treasures in a month, so I'm gonna just post some clean-up pics from my last finds on Oct 5th (I'm super bored, it's been a dry month 😀 )

I tried to stage everything like they were originally posted but it didn't work.....
zero1.jpgzero2.jpg

The S-K ratchet head kit is suppose to be in the mail.....lady said they were on backorder until Nov. 1st
zero3.jpg

Couldn't resist cleaning up the small Stanley hammer
zero4.jpg

Hope my treasure hunting gets better...................You guys are killin' it

Went to a couple more sales today with my wife…1/2 off day so it was mostly dregs but still found some things.

Craftsman long lever 1/2 ratchet, nos hose coupler, Armstrong/ Blackhawk wrench, plomb punches

Also found this autographed football from the Oregon State football team from 2000/2001 which was ranked #4 that year but should have been in the natty that year. Many notable players were on that team including chad Johnson/ ocho cinco 😳

Thanks Don, I was pretty sure there was more to it,but I really had no idea what. I didn't know where to begin. Since there was a small bit of Indestro/Duro that is very likely to be a portion of the same socket.

Nothing special. Got all 5 for $10. I love using these older ones at work. FIMG_20221107_063228087_HDR.jpgairmount, Blackhawk, vlchek, and a p&c. The pro wrench looks gimmicky.

The zipper is brass, the zipper handle is plastic. I'm not sure what the case is made of, but it held up very well. The back is stamped Made In Japan. The case with the tools in them weighs about 2lbs. I looked at various cases like it and they had different tools in them.

thank you!

does that adjustable wrench have a little diamond in the middle with "HTK" inside the diamond?

the brass zipper pull appears to be stamped "YKK", correct?

wrench openings are 6 7 8 10 11 13 ?

Same:

404. That’s an error.

The requested URL was not found on this server. That’s all we know.
Ok uploaded it to youtube. Here's the link.

Finally, figured out how to disassemble the headstock. I didn't realize there was a recessed set screw in the cone pulley (pic 3) that releases the spindle and allows the bearing to be knocked out. Lubed it all up. Just picked up a 4" o-ring for a pulley belt and a HF variable speed router controller and I think we're ready to see if it will run smoothly.

I'll move this to the proper forum, but thought you'd like to see where I'm at on this project.

That's pretty cool, @ctuai!

Mike
Thanks. Now I got to figure out what to do with it. Metal cribbage pegs, snakes, sticks, elephant trunk, legless wiener dogs...

It's pretty cool, it's a sewing machine motor so picture pushing your sewing machine pedal to the floor and just holding it there for 15 minutes. It's that type of almost turbine loud. It's spinning super fast, but it has zero vibration and no heat. It's just sitting there spinning like crazy.

The local flea market was full of knick-knacks and holiday items, but I found some interesting things, for $14.00 total:
Flea and Restore.jpg
Left side:
P&C 1234 (or Proto 234) Parallel-Jaw pliers (too rusty to read markings, but work perfectly)
Snap-On S-6 1/2 dr. 6" extension. E code and Cad plated
Snap-On SFS-161 3/8 dr. 6-pt. 1/2 deep
V-Chrome USA 1/4 dr. 6-pt. 5/16
Long-C 1729 DOE 5/8 x 3/4
Craftsman large brake adjusting spoon
Drill Bits:
9/32 HSS, USA, 3/8 Dorman HSS England, M42 Cobalt USA: "L", 23/64 (x4), 15/32, 1/2
"B&V" cape chisel. Marked "1S" 6-7/8" or 75mm long

Lower Right:
Blackhawk 40136 1/2 dr. 12-pt. 1-1/8
Thorsen 538 1/2 dr. 12-pt. 1-3/16
Plomb USA pebble 3026 DOE 1/2 x 9/16
Proto USA starter DBE 1725
Marlinspike 7-3/4" long, looks unused
Walden Worcester 2418 wrench 9/16 x 3/4

Upper Right is from Restore, $4.00 total:
4 40W equivalent LED bulbs
Williams Superrench 1723 DOE 3/8 x 7/16
Plomb USA 3037 DOE 11/16 x 25/32
Duro "X-circle" 1027 DOE 9/16 x 11/16
Herbrand "Van Chrome" 1029 DOE 11/16 x 25/32

The B&V chisel is interesting. The font of the markings seems 19th-Century old, and the shape of the cutting blade is flared at the working end, with curved sides. The only company I found with the B&V initials is from Germany. Blohm & Voss was founded in Hamburg, Germany in 1877, and used a B&V logo into the mid-1950's, when they changed to B+V.

My thought is that the chisel may have been owned and used by Blohm & Voss in the shipyards. I cannot find any American companies that would have used B&V as a logo.

I have seen many examples of tools made for large firms and carry the firms name, rather than the maker, VW ,Toyota , Schneider, and that’s a great plausible theory.

Pins for swivel jaw vises?

Fancy pens?

Is there a way to partially enclose the motor to reduce the noise? Maybe even install the lathe on top of a cabinet, and put the motor down inside the cabinet? You could use thicker wood or add other insulation to deaden the noise.

What is the spike used for?
