Now that’s the stories we need to hear.
I might need some visual aid to help with that story! No wonder I can't remember much now I have all these stories saved upstairs like they happened yesterday!

This is a good story I just have to figure best way to tell it!

ON another note more news on my first car!
The '70 Boss 302, I just got a call from guy who built the current engine. A 351 Cleveland with a 6-71 blower. He was friends with guy who bought it way back in 1983. It had a blown up 460 in it then with a c6 automatic.

Built the engine and found a original '70 Boss 302 4spd to put in it. He then touched up the candy paint and re-cleared entire car.
He said interior was still exceptionally nice and they decided to keep those 4 switches on dash just because! Those 4 switches that caused so much grief to the cops!.

As I type I see photo's coming in in texts. What could they be?

Who? Me?
Think 🤔 this has anything to do with it?

I had not noticed the date in upper right corner! I just might have to finish the story now . .
I thought I was excited at 19 yrs old the day I bought car. Shaking more now than I was the day I pulled into driveway and saw the picture windows in house shaking dad peering out window and a couple seconds later headed out front door. oops, looks like I am in trouble all I did was work part of a Saturday at me new job at local ford dealer.

Just realized the shaking now is old age . .Hmmm or is it?

Sheriff Letter I did not notice the date in upper right hand corner. While searching thru papers I have not looked at in 30 yrs found this. I was 14 yrs old and took a Boater Safety course. Anything to stall telling the other COP story.

Some time late in 1983 Jeffery and Sue bought the Boss from a used car dealer In Milwaukee area. It had the 460 with Tunnel and 2 4's the kid I sold it to tried to copy. He had from what I remember a 180k settlement when he was 15-16 after incident with a car and a lawsuit. He had seen me in the Negaunee 100 yr parade and decided he wanted to spend some of the settlement on my Boss that was not for sale. I was trying to find pics of that parade prior to proceeding but overwhelmed with info coming in. He may not have had drivers license yet don't recall but most likely did.

Someone he knew (Scott P) brought him over to my shop at random. I do not recall entire transaction as this was probably 1982.
Somehow or other flashing cash around and me not being able to get the Boss 302 engine back from the crook who stole it I decided to sell the car to the kid for 3500.00 Still a very very nice car at the time. I paid 2400 for it in 1976. I sold it less engine if I recall, pulled out the Tunnel Rammed 429SCJ as I said no way no how were you getting it! I still had the 1970 Cyclone GT the engine came out of and I also had a 1934 Ford 3w coupe I was planning on dropping engine in. Kid paid for car and took it.

I had a really really nice 1970 Fastback that I then restored painted same color and a painted on stripe with just 302 in stripe. He saw car and threatened to sue me If I did not make car look different! LOL
He was quite angry and when I just laughed he decided to go all out on the paint job. As I recall Gary Hegman painted the car or it could have been Bartanens body shop in town. January 1983 I went to Arizona for a couple week vacation Ended up staying 10 months

In the meantime kid who bought car had Jerry M drop in a 460 with you guessed it a Tunnel Ram and a couple of Chrome velocity stacks.
It was forget date above but think May of 1983 and he was under car on jack doing something with exhaust as I was told and the car fell on him and killed him. Think it was the race type traction bars I mentioned in above post.

I of course was still in Arizona. As soon as I returned to Upper Michigan his family attempted to sue me for negligence. All my fault they said first it was because I had worked on car but entire car had been changed so then they tried the I sold it to a minor deal. . Even tho he went rampant buying stuff. I had no idea at the time how old he was or where the money came from never knew the kid. It was always I am a spoiled brat and parents will sue if I don't get my way.

Anyway back to the buyers in 1983

Person who helped family sell was Jerry M and was a friend of mine when he and wife Cindy lived out by me. They had moved to Negaunee into Cindy's parents house as they had moved into a new place with a HUGE shop. He was and still is a very well known Restorer. I helped him clear land trees bush around shop and in return let me store the boss in his new shop for the first winter this was back in winter 1976-77

Jerry had built or installed the 460 so he had connections with a famous pin stripper In Milwaukee Butch Brinza who was good friends with his father in law Byron. I had actually driven down to Milwaukee with Jerry and Byron to go see his shop no clue what year that was but probably 1977.

Butch Brinza had connection to used car lot who ended up and sold it to Jeffery and Sue.

Photo's of Jeffery and Sue
It still had the tires on it at least on back I had put on and the same Cragars
Talk about Memories!
From best I understand the car sat about 20 yrs with blown up 460 so do not know if it was blown up when they got it or?

Then in 2005-06 timeline they told Jim a local shop they were thinking of selling car as Jeff had cancer. so Jim went to look at it told them he wished they would keep it but was interested. Approx 1 yr later Jeff said cancer was in remission and asked Jim if he would build him his "dream car". Jim stepped in and did such. 4 bolt boss 351 block and the hampton 6:71 blower which Jim says is capable of 900 HP but turned way down not to scatter the engine. Discussion was to keep those 4 switches on dash which are still there today.
Jeffery was able to realize his dream and make a few shows but Passed away in 2011. His wife Sue remarried but she too passed away in 2016. Best I know now her 2nd husband son has car now.

Sad deal but story best I can tell it from what I have learned over last couple days a very short span from not knowing anything since it disappeared back in 1983.

Sorrow goes out to families involved as I lost my Dad to cancer when he was only 69, Lost my mom to cancer when she was 66. Now me being 66.

Kinda overwhelming of the long lost boss to know nothing but now finding this info in such a short time!
Here is Jeffery dream car as it appears today. Jim has done a great job bringing the paint to match and be nice again by spotting in any damages of the cool paint job which I think was done by Gary Hegman. Jim then sprayed over car in clear to better preserve it.

If i were to get car back and because I now know the story I would not touch the paint job. The 351C not so much. Since my dream car was always a Boss 429 why not build it. Say a Kaase Boss 9 a very mild one with only say 800 hp. Oh, think I am dreaming again . .

Sure hope I got the story at least mostly correct.

HUGE thanks to Jim, Shawn G and others for giving me info to finally find the car. Good to know even if I never get it back. It would be so nice to once again even sit behind the wheel of it.

I think the car knowing full story now I have waited 40 yrs this year to find out the car looks fantastic! No more dreams of it being a Restored Boss 302. My memories were both stock and modified but best of those years was modified.

The last pic 1976 plate. My registration for 1977.

How does the Orange Boss tie in?
Sick of my stories yet?

Lets go back to late summer 1976

I went to my job at Hooper-Stanaway Ford in Ishpeming on a part day Saturday think it closed at noon.
Dennis was shop foreman. I was doing cleanup my first job. I had been told to stay away from covered car on old Rotunda front alignment machine there was a newer alignment machine to the right both over a pit. Sweeping under near car I kept looking at the mysterious shape wondering what was under all the blankets and covers. Finally curiosity got the best of me as cover not quite covering front spoiler and saw it and bright Grabber Blue paint. Just as I lifted the cover I heard a voice behind me (Dennis) what ya doing? I probably stuttered and stammered but said I am so sorry I know I was not supposed to touch it but was curious as to what it was. It was like ok, would you like to see it? I said sure. He started pulling off the covers and I had to have been drooling. Best looking car I ever saw!

Covers were pulled off I was in AWE no clue what a Boss 302 was, The large tires, The Hood Scoop, The rear spoiler, the louvers, front spoiler the Boss stripe just glowing changing colors under the lights.

He Then says it has been a while since I blew out the cobwebs would you like to go for a ride? Who me? If my knees quit knocking maybe I can climb in. Now this was a well modified Boss 302 with 12.5 compression ****** Headers that crossed over and it only had ****** Header shorty mufflers with turn downs. It shook the place. At the time it had a Detroit Locker and 4.88 Gears and of course the Boss 4spd. As Dennis turns out onto Highway 41 he runs it through the gears and turn around by the tiny shack used by think it was WDMJ we turn around and wide open again! WoW what a lifetime thrill! 4.88 gears and 7500 RPM as we pull into the dealership shop and stop he looks over at me and says. I have NEVER seen anyone this excited about the car. Would you like to buy it?

Mind you I had a new 1975 RD350B I had bought day I graduated my only transportation as had no car. I said I dont have 10.00 in my pocket filled bike up from dad's gas pump to get to work. He said what bank do you deal with? I said Roger Pietro Miners bank. (Roger a good family friend was president of bank) He leaves goes inside office I was still sitting in car drooling. A race car space ship I was sitting in! Seemed like minutes and he comes back out and says (Roger said ok he will allow 2400.00 so I guess I will sell it to you for that sign here if you want it) I am like what will I do with my bike still in shock? He says, oh, you can leave it in dealership until monday then get a ride to pick it up) I hop in da Boss and head for home the most exhilarating moment of my 19 yrs. I get on it just a touch here and there cruising the country roads the 10 miles home.
I pull up to front of house where there is a very large picture window with small panes next to where dad usually sits in his chair reading the paper.

I pull up close to house and I can see the windows vibrating and dad pops his head up and looks out window. That wild cammed 12.5 to 1 Boss has dad headed outside!

I was still sitting in car with door open still hand on steering wheel.
Dad goes who's car where did you get it? (appears I am in trouble) I got it from Hooper-Stanaway.
How much did you pay? I said 2400.00 (same price he paid for his new '66 years before)
He said you paid how much for a old used car? I said yup. He goes they took advantage of you you should have told me to help you buy it we are going to make them take car back right now.
He goes in house heading for the telephone, my heart had totally sunk. I didn't care what the car costed I wanted it. Not sure if I pinched my self but best day of my life and now it is ruined. I did know the dealership was closed.

Dad calls it rings and rings. Dad says well we will have to bring it back on monday first thing!
We go back out to car dad looks it over says it is in really nice shape.
He climbs in sits behind wheel. He says well let me take it for a test drive.

I climb in passenger seat thinking dad never drives fast (used to have race cars) He will drive it nice and not know what it's really nice.

SHOCKER to me as we pull out of driveway dad jabs it to floor and bangs all 4 gears! Whoa dad what just got into you. We go about a mile down road to his brothers house go back home pull in driveway sitting there saying nothing. Me thinking my dream machine now gone. Dad turns to me with the largest smile I had ever seen and he says: It's good I guess you can keep it!

Car a bit dusty so figure I will give it a wash. Dad comes out with camera (only photo i know he ever took) Takes the pic of me standing next to car!

How is the Orange Boss connected one may ask?

Well, I was friends with Dennis brother Rusty in high school. Had not heard or seen from him since. Blue boss gone forever I restore the Orange '70. I am at a very large Muscle Car show I had just Won BEST MUSCLE CAR! A guy walks up who I did not recognize with a friend and says wow. This is a really nice car. Then says My brother Dennis had a blue one years ago sold it to Randy H. back in Michigan. I say are you rusty? He says yes, I say well I am that Randy! Quite the experience. Got caught up on life exchanged phone numbers but that was last time we spoke.
One can see the card in windshield with gold star. I got a nice Platimum record to go with it.

Something I do not think I ever shared here.
Thought a few might like to see this.
Nice write up on the car I did. Maybe I should buy it back instead?

Mecum now fully aware that I am one who did car
The Calypso Coral 70 is car I did. It was looking good 6 years after I did the restoration.

I just learned a tid bit. Seattle, Midwest, down to florida and now it's back here in AZ close to home!
My best friends neighborhood! Crazy stuff.
Called my friend to see if he has seen it around (small neighborhood) while talking realized It was he who helped me get the car home using his 02 chevy and the trailer I sold him years before. He will post on bulletin board does anyone know the car.

Car's current location is closer to where it was sold to back in Late 70 than it is to me here!

Not really a Ford guy but those Mustangs do bring back memories. I got my license in 1969 and there were cool muscle cars everywhere. I ended up with a 69 Z/28 in 1974, best car I ever owned, sadly it is long gone. Bought and sold in Mesa, AZ.

The developments keep getting better! Seems person/family who now owns the Blue Boss is on a Snowmobile trip where I grew up and where I lived when I owned the car!
Long ways from where car currently is.

To top that off I have been chatting with Lady of family who i bought car from. It turns out they have photo's when they bought it and guess where that was? Yep, They bought it from person who bought it from Ford back in 1970 and it was within a MILE of where it is today! Crazy stuff! It has been all over arizona and all over the country from, Cave Creek to Spokane then to seattle then to illinois then to Oklahoma then to Florida and now back within a mile of where it started! Who knows wouldn't that be cool if same guy who bought it in 1970 has it today? Maybe he bought it because it was exact and doesn't know it's the original. Trying to figure that all out now.

Edit Update: 8;00pm Friday. It was actually parked on side of road with for sale sign when person I bought it from saw it and bought it! Pics were taken that day back around 1982 about same exact time I sold the Blue Boss.

The Mecum listing has been totally updated

Randy - ad looks really good, but I think the following would be helpful -

-Completely sorted out - everything functions as it should - no gremlins, no glitches, no excuses.
- ? miles per gallon and ? miles range make it the perfect vehicle for long road trips
- Driven x miles on long road trip with zero issues.
- Looks of an iconic Ford truck with the performance of a new Raptor -- best of both worlds.

Here's why - if I knew nothing about the truck or you I would be worried that the truck would have various glitches that I'd never be able to fix, and that the dealership wouldn't want to tackle because it's a modified truck. I would want to know that it's been fully sorted, tested, driven, and it's turnkey and ready to go.

My $.02.

I also strongly recommend that you start posting on Instagram -- start off with vintage pics of your Boss and your other cars with short descriptions. You'll soon have a decent following. You can do short videos on IG as well, and you can also use it to send more traffic to your YT channel. Once you have some followers, go with the F100R content. IG is the perfect platform to generate interest ahead of the sale. Facebook is good for this, too.

Both posts are excellent suggestions 👍

Randy, I had to share one from yesterday at BJ as I figured it’d give you a chubby. No where near as clean as your work and to make matters worse she didn’t sound too healthy.

I totally agree! They will not let me write the listing. Every change needs approval of sorts. Not only that but I have to PROVE everything I for sure wanted the 1000 mile range and mpg. I already proved both I gotta keep sending info then it gets lost or not updated. Way too many people and too many departments. One handles this one handles that etc. At this point it info there but looks too garbled up. In order for something to post I need to prove it. Just like when did I buy it. I told them Feb 1st 2000. Because I never drove it and just sat did not transfer title. Just started gathering parts. Title showed like 2003. I then sent pics of my oldest 2 girls next to truck and that they now had kids older than they were in pics. Talk about jump thru hoops. Of course I had to prove the engine was NEW what it was etc too. I pretty much spent entire week all day searching for info to prove it all. I have not lifted a wrench all week. Of course while searching my mess of papers for over 47yrs worth I found other stuff then went on wild goose chases and found both of my boss cars. That went viral online and what a story it turned out to be.
I do now have insta and fb and like 12 followers on insta none on fb. Only way insta will grow is if you put a gal on with skimpy clothes leaving impression less clothes soon! LOL
It literally took all week to gather and send info. Each morning I would get a message I later learned was automated they needed this this and this tho already sent. Finally got it down to 2 pieces remaining. Title and mandatory AZ consignor Addendum which I can bring with me.
I learned if I call the right person things happen pretty quickly. Tomorrow I will probably re-write entire listing how I think it should be done and see if they make changes. I will also have to go back nearly a year ago and get info receipts on the MPG and Distance.
I do plan on doing (or wife does) making a hard cover book to keep with truck of entire build. I do get it where Mecum said doing so in listing would confuse folks especially other countries if un-done pics were posted. They said like 12-20% of buyers are online.
I just need 2 bidders who really want it.
They will continue to make changes to listing until I agree on final. Important to get it listed now for best coverage.
Both posts are excellent suggestions 👍

Randy, I had to share one from yesterday at BJ as I figured it’d give you a chubby. No where near as clean as your work and to make matters worse she didn’t sound too healthy.

There was a 1970 Grabber Green Boss 302 that brought 200k and it had major paint issues and full of aftermarket parts. My car was all original parts or NOS with exception of a few items like belts, hoses, tires, battery.

Still undecided about the RaptorR or a boss or nothing. It will all hinge on car first selling then what it brings. Keeping the R will be talking the wife into it and selling a BUNCH more stuff. She would rather I paid house off as A TON of $$ wrapped up in a single vehicle if economy crashes like many think will happen. Retirement cannot come too soon! Less than 6 months now.

I make all kinds of dreams and wishes but gotta wait for each one to happen or not. For next 30 days at least will spend it on Orange Truck prepping it for auction. Few more things I want to have working. At least if truck does not sell I will have it working for myself.

I bought a new total updated Ford A/C compressor that supercedes a bunch. Hope I don't have to pull cab or engine to install!

The updated Mecum ad is better.
I also agree adding more info describing how the truck is proven to be sorted based on mileage driven, trips taken and mpg would help even more.
I gotta believe your truck should bring more $ than those other recent auctions.

What does everyone think of this? I sent this to them see what they think. What should I add or take away or change?
It was too garbled up for my taste before. I currently have this up on computer tweaking it here and there.
They have not approved this but I think it's better than it was how they had it? I suggested this. I will tweak over weekend then re-send for Monday morning. Busy day today getting rid of project raising $.

What's your instagram user name? You can find me at https://www.instagram.com/the.bulletproof.garage/

FYI - my content isn't that popular yet. I have 209 followers, but at least 200 of them are scantily clad women who only follow me in hopes that I will follow them back. They apparently want me to join their "Only Fans" page, where I pay to see nekkid pics of them. No thanks.

I like that summary.
My suggestion would be to try to stream line some of the longer lines, consider the order things are listed and group like things together (like all engine items group, all programming items grouped).

Ex. of streamline. Bullet point 6 could read:
* Extended range fuel system - 24 gallon tank + 19 gallon auxiliary tank. Over 20 ( or 22 ) mpg on highway.

I'd leave out details like headwinds

Made few changes. These things are hard to write. This way are pure facts not making the MPG claims. If someone is actually looking at truck I could always say high speed heavy winds got this # and 24.8 on return or say nothing at all

Randy,

I wouldn't sweat the MPG. Anyone with the money this truck should bring isn't worried about gas mileage... :ROFLMAO:
No mpg claims in last one just just distance.
I have zero say in how it’s written. Just give them info & they write it.
Last revision is how i would like it to be similar to. Will see if they change it.
It has to be in certain format.

This morning I have message on phone thru FB

Hi Randy. The daughter of the person who died under the car is interested in chatting with you. I sent you her contact info.

Whoa!!! Told him as far as I knew he was very young not married never had kids. And how is this connected to me finding the car?

Well, as my stories never end and go on forever he did in fact have a daughter he never met! I had a very pleasant 90 min phone call with her earlier today.

I rec'd this back from sender:

Are you 100% sure he was 16 or was that just what went around?

"I believe he was 21! He passed in ‘83 and I had just turned a year old. Seen by _________ _____ _______ ___My grandparents were just devastated, of course. This car was pretty well known around our small town and from what I understand they just wanted it gone. They have both since passed, and it was never discussed."

She's always wondered what happened to that car as well.

So not only was she real through our conversation it became apparent that: Sunday afternoon I was reading my family history book and found the last name of person who died in my family history. Speaking with her comparing notes we soon realized (she was only grandaughter) That her Grandfather's sister was in fact married to my uncle! I never knew that uncle because he died in a traffic accident on way home from his job as a mechanic. (also found article in local paper from back then)

My uncle Wally had 3 sons that through the years knew names but never realized how they were relatives. Because my Uncle Wally died in 1941 at age 28 never knew him and not until now realized how his 3 sons who I have met were related.
My dad was same age as her grandfather and actually worked together in a couple different mines in upper michigan!

So that 40 year search for car found a distant relative I never knew. Plus the mystery for her what happened to car is finally solved for her! So many many different connections to this story. The parade in question Negaunee, Michigan 100 yr parade with founding father Frank Mathews standing on bumper of my 1979 Little Red express and the person driving it a very good friend of mine at time as he was my work partner in the mine we now find Al is a relative of her husband! Her dad saw my Boss in the parade and decided he had to have something not for sale . . So I told her about my current truck how it will run across block on April Fool's day hoping it may leave $$ to buy my first car back so I have April fools jokes to tell either way. She then said guess when my birthday is: No clue . . April 1st!

She wanted link to this thread so she may or may not post.
