Low Cost Sealing Options for New Concrete

If you are doing auto repair or even parking vehicles, my experience with sealer/densifier suggests that any oil drips will need to be almost immediately wiped up. There are some other fluids that will stain my floor even if immediately wiped up.

Need Recommendations New Automotive Shop Floor

I used a densifier/sealer on my new auto-shop floor. I followed the manufacturer's instructions. My old shop had an epoxy coating, and I did not like the way it wore, and it was difficult to recoat. I am not satisfied with the stain resistance of the sealed floor. Most automotive fluids will...

    Educate me on sub panels

Yes, you can split the 200-amp service with a 100-amp branch circuit to a sub-panel. Keep in mind that a 100-amp, 2-pole breaker takes up a lot of space. In my Square-D QO panel, the 100-amp breaker took up the 4 bottom positions [2 each side].

    GhostShield 8510 Oil Repellent Update

My experience with recently applied 4500 and 8510[2 wet coats] is that it does reduce concrete dusting. Regarding oil-stain resistance, for me it has been working OK [I]provided[I] that oil spills are cleaned up promptly. Last week I found a dime-sized oil drop that had been there for I think...

Multiple 240v otlets on one circuit

I recently did this in my new shop. According to my interpretation of the NEC and my electrical inspector, it is perfectly legal. The problem is splicing the #6 conductors and having enough room in the receptacle boxes to work with these large wires. To mount the receptacles, I used...

If you had the chance to start over what floor would you go with?

OP: I agree that what your intended use is should determine your floor treatment. I am fortunate in that I had two chances to treat a new concrete shop floor where heavy auto-repair work was to take place. On the first I used two-part epoxy. I loved the way it looked, but I was not satisfied...

12/2 Romex with ground for 230v minisplit install?

I agree with the other posters who suggest that you color the white wire red either with tape or with permanent marker [my preference]. I do not agree that it is optional to do this. According to my local electrical inspector, who is extremely competent, you can recolor a white wire to red if...

Solar guru question about angle vs larger system

If you will entertain a response from a non-expert [yet] on solar, there is in my opinion no perfect angle for the panels, as the declination of the sun changes with the seasons. With a fixed-angle mount, the angle has to be a compromise. The compromise can be such that the performance is...

    NM in conduit ?

OP: Keep in mind that stranded conductors are easier to pull through conduit than solid conductors + a cable jacket.

Smoke detectors - false alarms driving me nuts!

    >Some of my detectors may be more than 10 years old. Did you look for a date-of-manufacture label on the "Underside" of the detector?

Car lift on Race Deck floor??

Another consideration for a two-post lift is shimming the posts. A good installer will be very careful about getting the posts vertical, and about the number of shims required to do so, and not to exceed a certain shim thickness. I would recommend mounting your lift posts directly to the concrete.

    Rust Bullet Tire Lift

One reason I decided to try a penetrating sealer in my new shop is that I had tire-lift problems with the two-part-epoxy paint I used in my old shop. The problem was worse with R-compound race tires, but was there most times I let a vehicle sit.

    Direct bury vs Conduit???

I would use PVC conduit, especially if there are burrowing animals in your area. There is nothing wrong with direct-burial cable in a proper trench. Consider also the cost of wires in conduit compared with direct-bury cable.

What is the configuration of the plug on the welder power cord? Or, can you read the wire gage on the welder power cord?
