Suggestions for new shop cabinets and worktop?

Took a quick look at the website. Just judging from the weights of some of these pieces, they must be built like the proverbial brick outhouse!

Wisdom of crowds 2: to gutter or not to gutter in snow country

82" is seasonal snowfall. Our record single storm snowfall is 36". Typical "big snowstorm" is 12-14". Typical snow depth is about 12" (lot of melting and sublimation between snowfalls). I haven't checked the town building code yet for required snow load capacity... good point, though, about...

The Gutter Helmet system looks like an interesting solution

Wisdom of crowds 2: to gutter or not to gutter in snow country

We get about 82" of snow annually (not all at once!). I have been advised by one pole building construction firm that they prefer not to install gutters on steel roofs for fear of being torn off when snow slides off the roof. On the other hand, their company brochures and website show many...

Install Storm Door on AZEK Trim

I hung a premium quality metal storm door on 5/4" Azek without any signs of issue now 7 or 8 years later. We use this door as the main daily entrance to the house. I did make sure to attach the Azek to house framing very securely using 3" SS trim screws in staggered zig-zag column about...

    My First "Shop/Garage"

Have a look at Perma Posts. Engineered concrete post in the ground, treated wood post attaches to bracket on top of concrete post above ground.

Here's where I'm at in the "trying to build a shop" process - Any thoughts?

Re: Here's where I'm at in the "trying to build a shop" process - Any thoughts? I had the local Morton give me a verbal quote on a 30x60 building, similar configuration of doors as yours. No insulation, no concrete, $51 K, which is about $28/sf. Morton quoted you $30/sf for your 30x40. For...

Wisdom of crowds 1: "big box" vs "modules"

Electric fence is the ticket. Seriously, a few strands of 16 gauge aluminum wire, as flimsy as that is, hooked up to a good fence charger will keep them at bay. My hives were wiped out by a bear on multiple visits. I put up electric and they’ve been safe since.

    My First "Shop/Garage"

I'm also in early stages of planning a shop/garage. First thing I'm doing is creating a spreadsheet tracking all the different uses I have in mind for the building and the distinct spaces I'll need and how big they are. See my post...

Wisdom of crowds 1: "big box" vs "modules"

I'm in the early stages of planning a garage / hobby building. As I look at the various purposes I'd like the building to serve and the unique space needed for each, I'm coming up with something like 4000 sq feet of space. What I'm wondering about are the pros/cons of building a single huge...

    Outdoor shed

In these parts, for a 12x12 shed, the standard for comparison would be an Amish-built wooden shed. They're built in a factory and delivered on back of a truck. Cost would be in the $3-4 K range for that size. As you're in Ohio, no doubt there's dealers offering locally built "Amish sheds"...

I’ve made a real mess of things painting.

As far as cutting in, some hints: 1. Use a sash brush (bristles cut at an angle), not a straight brush. You’re going to drag the brush edgewise, which is what a sash brush is meant to do, and it’s easier to do a good job than with a straight brush. 2. Use a 2 or 2 1/2” brush. It seems...
