So I posted a couple of pages back how my purchasing of vices had relapsed, it seems getting back on the wagon isn’t easy as this leg vice climbed into the van the other day! Not my kind of vice usually but this is heavy in the extreme (it took two of us to move it) and I couldn’t leave it lying...

This one doesn't have its plaque but the other one I mentioned does albeit very battered. Is a "right Herbert" better or worse than being a "dirty Herbert" ?!

I haven’t bought a vise in ages but this one fell into car when picking something else up recently. It’s an Alfred Herbert armourers vice, I have one already but this is in better condition. A war effort product as far as I know, fabricated construction.

It didn't come with any provenance, just one that slipped through eBay with no real description.

Another unusual clamp on vise. No name again. Must be for something specific, maybe leather work?

Well knock me sideways, must of been what womenfolk call a "bloke's look":dunno:

I've not been able to see any branding on it I'm afraid, I'm wary of stripping all the paint in the search for something but will look closer today and take some better pictures. The wing nut is the swivel point, loosening it allows the body to swing within the range of the crescent.

It's a late 1800's French Jewelers vise. I got sniped on the vise below. Excellent knowledge as always :bowdown: mines still got the cover for the screw which I don't imagine survives very often, the patches of paint also to show how it was once dressed. I like it more now I know it's approx...

A funky clamp on that I've had a while. I don't know who made it but it's nice to use, smooth jaws which are 2 7/8" wide.
