I worked in an engine assembly facility when I first started turning wrenches and they had wrenches like that for every fastener on the engine. It prevents any chance that someone miss-dialed in the wrong spec on a torque wrench.

Since its meant for working hot metal, maybe the hole is put there to allow some cooling of the striking surface to preserve hardness?

First post here, I too am looking for these trim pieces, I went to my local dealer and he said none of the parts for the older models are available??? I thought when I bought these boxes back in 1988 that they came with a life time warranty? I have two drawers that cracked where the slide...
