Do permits stay with the contractor?

A permit or a sub permit is nearly always tied to the specific contractor or subcontractor doing the work. It can be changed. Most jurisdictions have a simple change of contractor form. I’ve taken over jobs from other general contractors and gone through this. I’ve changed out subs and done...

    Comfortable rolling seat

Where’s the reviews on comfortable, quality rolling mechanics seats? I don’t need drawers or cup holders, just a good seat that rolls well and is stable.

    Flashing Second Floor Balcony

I would love to know how this turned out. It looked like a horrible design idea and I envisioned terrible leaks and the ceiling below crashing down inside.

How to spec/price a suspended slab

You should absolutely engage a structural engineer and architect to design the structure and price it out based on a set of plans that are approved by the building dept. until you do that, I think you are spinning your wheels and run the risk of getting in bed with a supplier or steel erector...

    Portable A/C ?

I have one for my single car CMU garage. It does not cool the space. It provides comfort if you are sitting in front of it. That’s about it. As far as being worth the money, I gave up on it since it just wasn’t worth the hassle and it has been sitting for 10 yrs.

Need Help on this concrete mix

No need for red flags. Nothing strange here. 5000 will be fine. Why are they using a #8 aggregate though and not something larger like a 57? Are they pumping it with a sidewinder? Is this a large footprint slab and/or no truck access to back up to it?

    Mesh Or Rebar?

These internet theories make me laugh. We build industrial warehouses where the slab is the most critical feature. Anything from 150,000 to 600,000 sq ft. Guess what? They all spec wire mesh for the slabs, not mats. Here’s the standard configuration: Well compacted soil 95% typ, looking for...
