    Best Demolition Screwdrivers?

Wera Chiseldrivers (yellow and black handles) can take a lot of abuse—they’re what I use when I don’t want to mess up my PB Swiss. That said, they’re not punches or pry bars.

    Quietest garage door opener

It definitely adds an element of danger!

    Recommend a finish nailer.

If you go pneumatic, what was Hitachi, now Metabo HPT, makes very good stuff. I have this one—it’s 15 gauge, perfect for finish work like moldings and trim work, 30 deg makes it easy to get into places...

    Quietest garage door opener

Replaced three 23 year old Overhead units last summer with belt drive Chamberlains from HD. They’re near silent. When my wife comes home I don’t hear her until the door opens into the house. Really didn’t want the wireless MyQ stuff but now I’m really glad I have it.

Stirring up a hornets nest: brand loyalty, or free for all?

My cordless tools are on two platforms—M12 for my automotive tools and Dewalt 20v for everything else. I like both those lines a lot and having them lets me cover all the bases (at least the bases I need to cover). Recently I thought I was going to buy the M12 stubby 1/2” impact but found the...

PB Swiss or Wera- putting together a set

PB Swiss or Wera? This is GJ so how about…both? That’s what I ended up doing a few years ago when I was upgrading my screwdriver drawer from worn out Craftsman and a hodgepodge of other stuff. Decided on PB and bought a full range of slotted and Phillips plus a couple of insulated for...

Are all the little pancake / hotdog compressors basically the same?

I have a Ridged pancake. It’s the best because it’s orange.

Look for a "first" miter saw recommendation

That Kobalt saw is an update to an earlier version I have (looks to be same saw with slightly different cosmetics and blade guard). Had it over 10 years now and it’s still doing fine. Checked the alignment a while ago and its still spot on after all these years, although I did have to adjust...

    Cabinets drawers and more

Might want to check out Barker for all of what you’re looking for. I’ve had good luck with their service and quality. They sell pre-cut custom drawer kits that you assemble and glue and would also be a good option for you when you’re ready to replace cabinet doors and drawer faces. They sell...

Need help with gift for German carpenter and cabinet maker

Thanks guys, all really great suggestions. Exploring the Lee Valley and Garrett Wade websites now. Also going to look at PB Swiss for unique/novel options (thanks lardy1). I’m a big PB fan myself, just wondering if he already might have a lot of it. I’ll keep everyone posted on how this...

Need help with gift for German carpenter and cabinet maker

Merry Christmas GJ! I’m trying to help my daughter come up with a gift idea for her bf’s father (possibly future FIL??!!). For years he’s been a master carpenter/cabinet maker in Germany (very high-end kitchen and bath installations). As you’d expect he already has every tool imaginable for...

    Gun Oil

For lubricant its Breakfree for me, which I use when I have a chance to clean the gun. But I’m with the OP and hit it hard with WD-40 first, right after I get out of the field before the gun goes in it’s case for transport home. Displaces the water and prevents the start of any rust.

    Garage Door Opener

I don’t really see how strength of the rail can be much of an issue. It’s really just guiding the slide along as the chain or belt moves the door up/down and levering against the front of the garage as it pushes open. The weight of the door is being carried by the door tracks, so whether the...

    What wrenches for road box

My truck box has sets of Crescent combo wrenches, metric and SAE. Decent wrenches considering made in China and India—the fit and finish is pretty good. And very inexpensive (wouldn’t feel bad if I lost one or even left a whole set somewhere). Bought them new on eBay.

Help me pick a Crowfoot Wrench Set

A few months ago I bought the Napa Evercraft flair nut crows foot sets, both metric and SAE. They were spoken of well here on GJ and for the price (you’ll laugh when you see) I figured I couldn’t go wrong. They’re Taiwan made and appear to be copies of the Carlyle versions that are...
