Dropped a couple bucks on a new HVAC. It's a bit bigger. The gas line to the furnace sticks out in front of hte water heater. It's 20" to the wall. Just ahead of it is the incoming water line to the WH. Between the two, it's 18" Water heater is 22" wide...

Well, couldn't one of two "legit" places nailed down to give a quote. Got another guy to quote the job, arrange an install date, and now he's getting flaky. I think I'll just grab an extension cord and some halogens on tripods and call it a day.

The house was built in 2001, so I'm not terribly worried about having to update anything if an inspector comes out. I did finally find an electrician who is adamant about getting a permit. I expect he'll quote much higher than the previous electricians, but that's just how it is.
