Thanks to those thinking on this for me. The solution is that the pivot shaft does come out through the side of the casting box. It was body filled and painted so well that you could not tell there was a hole there. Thanks again.

I have an Enco Taiwan 12 x 36 bench lathe, 1984 approx. It has been a good machine and has many hours of use. The main belt has given up and I'm struggling to figure out how to get the "Jack-shaft" out in order to replace the belt. This version has the shaft built inside of the main box casting...
