Can anyone school me on hot water booster pumps?

Bart explained it perfectly in his post above. When looking at the inside of a leaky section of recirc pipe it appears to have been scoured away, almost like it has a corossive liquid running through it. I personally have an on demand water heater that takes longer to get hot water to any...

What’s the correct way to denote an abandoned wire in the wall?

I had a new service run to the workshop at work. The electrician cut the abandoned underground wire off flush where it came up through the sill plate. He said if the inspector questions it, he'll say that it isn't able to be used. He didn't have a problem with it. Make it as safe as...

Can anyone school me on hot water booster pumps?

The issue with running the recirc pump 24/7 is the recirc line can develop leaks. I had clients that wanted to or required the pump to run 24/7 and both of them had issues with leaks. The copper piping would wear out from the inside out creating pinholes. One particular place was a commercial...

    AFM/DFM De-Activators

Ever restrictive fuel economy requirements is a difficult mountain to conquer. Usually it comes at a cost that nobody wants to bear when needing repair. The GM ADM is to try and make these bloated 1/2 ton grocery getters have a semblance of fuel economy. The cost of repairing this system isn't...

    Heating the floor or no?

I had similar requirements when I built my shop. It is small though, 30x32x12.5. Well insulated and sealed, 2"xps under the slab, 6"+ slab thickness. I could have put any system in that I wanted as I was in the trade. I decided on a natural gas fired radiant tube. For what it cost to...

Gas valve on furnace isn’t getting voltage - replace control board?

If you can find out what the resistance of the coil in the gas valve is, it may tell you whether it is good or bad. If the board is anything like Honeywell's smart valves it may not put out a voltage unless the correct resistance is connected.

Gas valve on furnace isn’t getting voltage - replace control board?

Bad gas valve. I've seen a similar issue and it ended up being the gas valve. Coil is probably partially shorted, causes high draw and the board sees this and opens k1 faster than you can get a voltage reading.

    Funnel storage? *SOLVED*

I generally clean out the drain pan and store funnels and grease gun in there. The extra funnels get put in a small recycling bin beside the drain pan. The funnels usually get a quick wash with brake clean before use. I also stuff used blue paper towels in the drain pan waiting for the next...

Snow Getting in Pole Barn Ridge?

I had this happen after 20+ years in a unheated/unfinished equipment shed. I would find snow all over the equipment. I noticed some plastic card type blockers getting blown out of the ridge. Since it has gable end vents and eaves vents, I hit it with spray foam, no more problems.

    Baseboard material for garage?

I used commercial vinyl baseboard. Almost no ledge to hold dirt and sparks and it was easy to glue up. Shur trim I think was the manufacturer.

Heat 24/7 or only when in the shop?

With costly propane being the only energy source, you're going to have to make a decision. Turning it down when you're not there and turning it up before you go in vs leaving it warm vs leaving it off until you go in. No doubt it'll cost less to turn it down when you're not there, but are...

Gas heater Cat III Thimble Insulation?

I understand that the thimble is designed to hold the required clearance to combustibles and insulation as well. Insulation can let heat pass through it without combusting but if it is touching wood or another combustible, it could cause a fire. . No combustibles or insulation is allowed inside...

Anyone done a DIY wheel alignment?

My vehicles  NEVER go to service shops. Except alignment. It's really the only thing that is worth the price to have done..... and I don't have an alignment rack... I use a specialty alignment shop that focuses on suspension, steering and alignments, they don't try to upsell. I do the part...
