    15/16" wrench

For what it's worth, the oil drain-plug on most "real" BMC Minis is a 15/16" hex. I don't know about BMW Minis though.......'prolly not?

Looks Like A Handy Little Prying Tool

My weakness is for pliers and prying tools. While visiting a friend's "Foreign Car" shop yesterday (tells you how old he must be...ha ha) I noticed a small, well-made, very stiff, little pry-bar that he'd bought from his Snap-On guy last Monday. It isn't marked Snap-On, only "4140" on both...

    Best Hand Cleaner

63Savoy has got it right!! PineRite soap powder is the best hand-cleaner ever sold, period! It's hard to describe all of it's good qualities, but the one I find the best is the way it rinses off nearly instantly when your hands are clean and when it is gone it is truly gone, every bit of it...

cool work lamp from swap meet

Am I the only one that is aware of some kind of weird, juxtaposed, irony in a trouble-shooting lamp for car-work made by Lucas?....not that there's anything WRONG with being English & electric...... (just kidding...trying to get a rise out of someone!)

Help identify my new baby vise?

J HAV, I'm certainly not an expert on identifying the makers of old vises, but I DO know a cute one when I see it! "Cute" isn't an adjective you hear applied to a vise very often, but your new little #3 is about as cute as they come! I wish I'd seen the auction, I'd have taken it much higher...

Which Snap Ring Pliers to buy?

+1 Knipex! (......make you throw rocks at anything else!)

    Ratcheting Box Wrench - Flex

A couple of years ago I got an extra-long metric set with S-K's name on them. I'm sure they're the same ones that now are sold by E-Z Red. I bought mine almost immediately after first seeing a friend's sets. He had both English & metric versions. I could tell that they were too good an idea to...

What are you using for memory savers?

For the cars that I'm familiar with, the Lisle #40400 seemed to be the most universally applicable design. I've duplicated what their design does several times, and when I saw their little insulation-piercing clip I bought one. I'm not sure yet exactly what the LED's function is, but I've only...

The Tools Delivered Site is back up!

I too received a "Your Order Has Shipped..." notice from them this morning. It was for an order for a couple of Knipex pieces I bought from them in April, 2011. Seeing any indication of on-line money/credit tomfoolery gets my attention quickly, but a previous poster's guess at a software-update...

Another whatzit? Has anyone seen these?

I believe those are jaws for a tubular holder that removes inner tie-rod ends from a steering rack. Sorry I don't remember whose it is though.

What workshop essentials come in a can or bottle?

So far it looks like Monte's photo is the only remote reference to Ballistol. Personally, if I ever ran out of the stuff, I wouldn't even bother to turn the lights on until I got some more. I became a fan about 10 years ago, and my enthusiasm for it grows constantly. http://www.ballistol.com/...

tools for beginning tech: future SAE? 3/8"

I can't believe that no one (even Moose!) has mentioned the 21mm nuts that secure the wheels on every Toyota passenger-car I've ever seen. (I'm just sayin'........)

Getting Pins Out of Holes...Gotta be a tool for this...

Bolster- More & more I find myself using the 2 sizes of Knipex Plier/Wrenches I've got to both remove & install pins on various assemblies I encounter. Their geometries give them very powerful leverage, and the jaw shapes/designs are surprisingly versatile. Just a thought. -phil

    Oddball Snap On

I believe it is for manually (with a ratchet) rotating some GM window-regulators.....I have one I bought in the '70s, thinking the pin-pattern might be handy someday. Never happened. I have a good friend that's been an auto-glass guy for years and I spotted one in his box one day.....he...
