    Vintage test light ID help.

Nice old continuity tester there! I believe that Ideal still makes one similar, may very well be a vintage Ideal.

Starrett 18a automatic center punch "misfire"

That’s pretty much all they are for, but when I’m laying out a flange or baseplate with multiple holes, I want that mark to be clear/deep enough that I don’t have to waste 10 minutes looking for my starter mark before I can punch it.

    Minimalist DIY Home Gamer Approach

I kind of walk both sides of the equation: I’ve got my cart with the “used all the time” stuff, and then the rollaways (2) with side cabinets that stay in the shop with the lesser used stuff. There’s some, but not much effort into organization at home. At work is a different story, I’ve got my...

Question about getting the key for an old toolbox - please give opinion (especially if you are a locksmith)

Sorry so late in the day - my organization system failed me, and I had to dig through the drawer.

Starrett 18a automatic center punch "misfire"

18A has a considerably higher spring rate and is made for harder materials. Even dialed all the way out, they’re pretty tight.

Starrett 18a automatic center punch "misfire"

Odds are there’s a burr in the barrel or another pseudo-obstruction. I’ve never had an automatic that didn’t require some degree of fiddling to get it right.

Next time you have it apart to adjust, clean everything off with brake cleaner, then put back together with some 3-in-1 oil on all the parts. For what they are, these things are extremely sensitive to cleanliness.

On my granddad’s old SK Wayne box the key is straight up brass, the only markings are the lock number.

Portable Combination Wrench Storage & Organization?

This KTC clip showed up today, I’ve got 5 more on order now. I’ve got from 1/4” up to 15/16” in it, and old Macs aren’t exactly svelte. These things are the answer to my prayers.

Portable Combination Wrench Storage & Organization?

Looks to me like you could just put in a piece of a stir stick and shim it up to take fewer wrenches. You could use this as an excuse to buy sets of double open and double box…..6 take the space of 12.

Portable Combination Wrench Storage & Organization?

Exactly like that. I just ordered one myself, thanks for the link. Back in the days of yore, damn near every parts store wrench set came with a little clip that held them all together, but these have gone the way of the dodo in favor of giant plastic things. Somewhere around here is a Blackhawk...

Portable Combination Wrench Storage & Organization?

I use the rolls for my field stuff, my partner uses those little metal racks with a bungee cord to hold them in place. There’s an electrician that we work with who keeps his wrenches in pieces of cpvc conduit with slip caps. The best I’ve ever seen are the little metal clips that hold them...

    Craftsman tools disappearing?

Tools (especially hand tools) are incredibly subjective - virtually everyone who turns wrenches for a living has his/her favorites, and some will not deviate at all. My partner will not allow any wrench other than a Williams in his box. I personally am not too picky, but I will not vary from...
