Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff! Drives, thanks! I am pretty sure that I had seen some of the catalogs on here before, but I don't remember seeing any of those "USN" part #s like in Filson's post. I do have some misc. 1" sockets, and in addition to the 3/4" Proto set that I...

Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff! Ok Filson, now you have me confused with that catalog page. I was basing my assumtion of having a couple tools from Bremerton based solely on the fact of location, and that a couple look to have a stamping "USN" or "USNS(?)". I was thinking...

Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff! Thanks! That find of yours is awesome! I wonder if there is more of the big stuff here just because of certain industries in the area? I think a couple of my large pieces were Navy surplus at some point, probably used at Bremerton in the...

Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff! After Drivesitfar and Filson posted their 1"ers, I felt obligated to show mine too  3/4" drive PLVMB 5686 ell breaker bar, mostly PROTO sockets and accessories. PLVMB 5849 1" drive "Big Bertha", PLVMB 5649 3/4" drive, PLVMB 5884 1"...

What RA would you say this is?

I have had this happen before, only worse! I was in a hurry and took it to a "reputable" machine shop that had been around for years. Everyone said they were good, but they mostly worked on old V8 engines and I brought in a head from a 4 cylinder that was running a good amount of boost. When I...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

As I was warned, this may be the beginning of an addiction... It took me less than 36 hours from my original post on this thread to drag home another vise from almost 100 miles away! :willy_nil In my defense, I actually went down there to buy a Miller Trailblazer 280NT. While checking out the...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

After reading all of the great feedback, I will go with what my gut told me, and what most of you agree with... Preserve it as-is  Va, that makes sense! No wonder I couldn't find any info on that number :lol_hitti It appeared to be a 3 or an 8, there was a casting flaw that someone...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I definitely feel fortunate to have learned so much from him, and also to be the caretaker of some of his tools until they get passed on when I am gone. I'm sure some of his tools (ie: this vise) should outlast me too!

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Thanks Provincial! He definitely used everything he owned (which was A LOT!) to earn a living. Everything he had was well maintained for function and safety, pretty was never a factor with the equipment but rather the final product. Don't tell anyone, but I am already on the lookout for another...

Show us your cool, "old" drill press

I haven't been able to do much research on this yet, but this was my Grandpa's Walker Turner that he bought sometime in the '50s. As with most of his equipment, this was the first drill press I ever used. If I am reading the tag correctly, I think it was manufactured in 1944? Does anybody know...
