Um, Thomas? You do realize what you have in Chris don't you? My wife, (and all 5 of her sisters LOL), would, no sooner than the holes be cut in the floor, say "you know, I don't like that there, I think this should move over there" and a bright brass outlet cover winds up right smack in the...

Thank you again for the explanation Thomas. Very appreciated. Anytime I do something, I always have a better way by the time I am done. You must have a terrific memory and used all those layovers with nothing to do to think through some of this stuff. Steve aka 71MKIV

Thank you Thomas, More information is better. A subsequent study of the fireplace pictures shows that the metal studs behind the fireplace do get filled with insulation, I just missed it. Once that big chunk of masonry gets warm, that will give off heat for a long time. Thanks for letting us...

Good morning Mr Thomas, The frustrated engineer in me has two questions, one of which might be for your mason friend: Is there a standard for the size/weight of a freestanding chimney? IE for one so tall it must be so wide by so deep? And are the external air intakes for combustion air? or do...

Yea, that PC7 is good stuff. Thank you Thomas for the explanation. Much more detailed than I expected. Looking forward to the electrical work. Steve aka 71MKIV

Mr. Thomas, if you don't mind me asking: How are you holding the mantle to the fireplace? I'd come wire the shop for you in exchange for a ride in the vette's. Steve AKA 71MKIV

I think you need to hit it with a metric wrench.

Must've been doing a check ride for somebody, you're in the wrong seat to be the pilot. As a mechanic on little airplanes,(as an A&P, then as an avionics installation technician) I find it interesting that you are flying a squadzillion dollar machine, and there is still insulation hanging out...

Thanks Thomas. Makes sense, as I stare out the window at my needs to be replaced driveway. Fortunately mine's only 50 feet long. Lovely garage doors, but sorry, first thing I thought of was "the springs on that mechanism would lift a truck". My aspergers kicking in again. Steve 71MKIV

Thomas, would you put a minute into explaining the thought process to a concrete driveway rather than a pad in front and asphalt for the rest of it? Thanks Steve 71 MKIV

Thomas, If I may? A stainless steel micromesh gutter cover, Leaffilter, Gutter Glove, and the like, work very well. I have a friend who lives in a pine woods, and this is the only thing that keeps the needles out. It's a very fine 50 micron screen that lets water through but nothing else. A...

If I may? Another solution to the "hot water at the other extreme end of the house" problem would be a small pump, and a handful of check valves. Rather than a complete loop in the hot water system, there is a pump, which takes water out of the hot water system, and pushes it into the cold water...

I am glad to see that you aren't so old school as to demand that your carpenters use hammers rather than air guns. :) Around here you get a bunch of Mennonites with air guns scampering around, you best stay out of the way or you get nailed down. 71 MKIV

Thanks Thomas, sometimes it's a good thing when the answer is "no". Steve
