    Insulating Garage Doors

My 16' garage door is about 11 years old, I just moved in a year ago. The bottom rubber bulb weatherstrip on the bottom of the door was so baked, hard and brittle that it was not sealing properly and lettting a lot of dirt and cold air in. I would check yours if it is very old. I bought a...

    Hydraulic Press

Here's how I did it: http://www.74-77camaro.com/75camaro/Suspension/suspension.htm You can do it with hand tools, but a press is always a handy thing to have around. Scott

    Insulation: blown vs. batt

One problem that most people don't think of with the styrofoam trays - They greatly reduce the Net Free Area (NFA) of your soffit vents. You are supposed to have the same amount of NFA at your soffits as you do at the peak vents. A 16x8 soffit vent averages 65 square inches of NFA. If you...

    Designing a moveable/stationary table

I'm planning on doing something similar to Truckguy except using the casters and screw levelers from a compaq server rack from work. They can be loaded for up to 2000 lbs. Wish the rack was the right dimensions for a table, save a lot of work.

    Is copper the new gold

I had been thinking about this: why not run iron pipe around for tools / air gun outlets, and a shorter run of copper over to outlets for painting? Place a T in there and one long direction iron, the shorter direction copper? I would think that if you have reasonable filters and oil the tools...

    Garage Fire Suppression System???

I work in a Data Center, and have been through a Halon dump. Guys doing some power work, drilled through concrete wall, power lines on plan were off by two foot (no way to check), small explosion / big fire. I was in other end of data center working on server. We had about 6 large tanks, 4'...

    Adding a bathroom to a barn/shop

My house is on City water but our small subdivision has aerobic septic systems, which are basically miniature water treatment plants. My home has a 500 gal system (treats 500 gallons a day), which pumps air into the tank to allow the aerobic bacteria to break down and clean the water. When the...

Should I have a ridge vent installed?

Well, I had this issue in my 1500 sq ft house that I just moved out of. It had a number of rooms with 10' ceilings, so there was a 2' slanted ceiling around much of the perimter of the house. Bad thing is, the builder did not install the styrofoam eggcrating in between joists to allow the...

Should I have a ridge vent installed?

For most homes, the cost of electricity for an attic fan is more than you would save in cooling costs inside your house, with the average insulation that is put into ceilings nowadays. Here in Texas, they like to put that blown insulation in at a depth that is supposed to give you an R-30...

    Cleaning the knurling

I use one of those fiberglass 'paint chip' pencils that you use to clean out a chip before you use touch up paint. I've also used it on brushed metal trim on cars from the 70's - 80's to clean the tarnish off but not damage the brushed metal finish. The 'glass will clean anything out of any...
