Vise and Grinder stands. I'm looking for ideas on how to use several in limited space

Sorry I forgot to answer that, the base was missing when I found it at a yard sale. I do have it in the Vise restoration thread. There's a lot to keep track of there :). I will add some pics to both threads when it's all done.

Vise and Grinder stands. I'm looking for ideas on how to use several in limited space

DIF, there is no welding on the underside of the rim. Just a bead between each lug hole. The pipe and rim I got at a scrap yard. The pipe was some kind of smokestack or flue. The 12 inch pipe was a cap on the 6 inch pipe, attached with some 1/4" plate wings. The 6 inch pipe is Sched 80 I think...

Vise and Grinder stands. I'm looking for ideas on how to use several in limited space

Provincial, thanks for the tips on stand height. Here is the stand I've built, still need to drill holes and paint it. Half of the Reed is sitting on it.

What would you guys consider to be the optimum height of a vise stand, to the base of the vise? I'm 6 ft tall. I got some stuff at the scrap yard today to build one.

Ok, I drove the pin out. The set screw is still stuck. I have it soaking in acetone/atf now. I tried gripping the set screw with vise grips but it didn't work. Some pics, including the markings on the spindle nut. Thanks everyone.

I wasn't sure if it was a good idea to pound on the pin with the set screw tight. But I'll give it a go. I'll probably use a short piece of 1/2" rebar as a drift. It's hard to tell for sure but the more I look at the inside end of the set screw, it may be slightly bent from being driven into the...

DIF thanks. I've run into a snag with it now, I can't get the set screw in the pin for the nut out. I soaked it for days in PB blast and Kroil. I was wailing away at it with my Ryobi impact driver, using a well fit Brownells gunsmithing bit. It wasn't moving but then the bit shattered and now...

Thanks for the info guys, and the date Outlaw. Wartime production makes it even more interesting in my book. Probably went to a defense plant somewhere and helped us win the war.

Well here are some photos of it in progress. I still have to deal with the pin, which I messed up with a drill. I have a plan, more on it later. The pain is Rustoleum blue metallic. I thought it would be a bit darker from the can top, but it still looks pretty good I guess. I'll probably do the...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Howdy folks, new member here. I bought a Reed 206R at a yard sale on Friday. It is missing the swivel base but other than that seems to be in pretty good shape. Sorry I didn't get any pictures before I disassembled it. I think I got pretty lucky since I had no idea what to look for in an old...
