Thanks for everyone's input. Removed the drywall from the lower half this morning. The vertical pieces of wood are nailed only at the top. I think I'm going to replace them. I'm in the process of replacing the drywall in one of my rooms. The bottom three feet is cinder block. The top is at ground level. Should I insulate it before screwing on the drywall? 1/2" foam block glued to it then R15 batts? Or, use 4 inch foam? Do I add a vapor barrier before the drywall...

Thank you to everyone. Successful in turning the valve closed by loosening the packing nut. Gently worked the knob back and forth until it freed up. Turned on the water supply and no leak. Now onto the washing machine dis assembly.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. This is what I'm dealing with. The cold water can bet= turned, the hot can not, yet. That's tomorrow's job. Is there such a fitting that has 1/2npt threads and the other end to accept the water hoses to the washing machine?

My washing machine stopped working (a topic for another thread) and of course the gate valves are seized. Is there such a thing as a seal kit to rebuild them? Unfotunetely, they are soldered to the pipes. I went to the big box stores, but have no clue what I need. I'd like replace them with ball...

Thanks for the insights. Is this no more secure than a car's keyless entry fob or homelink? I'm assuming it is only as secure as my networks password. Is there a button or setting on the units to disable wifi? I just had these installed 3 days ago and haven't climbed up to look at them.
