    Heating my 30x32x14 pole barn

I have a 40x40 with a 13' ceiling. I do not have it insulated yet in the attic and I have about half of the walls insulated. I installed a Hot Dawg 75,000BTU unit last winter and it worked great. It was a NG model. I put it near a corner blowing out into the room at 45 degree angle so that it...

    NJ Zoning bulk variance questions

I have a friend that lives in Rancocas and all he wanted to do was put a small garden shed in his backyard. Couldn't believe what he went through to get that approved. It included the color of the building. Definitely bring up comparable structures in your area to help leverage your cause...

    Garage Wall Question

Be careful with that wall if it is plaster, with the age it may contain asbestos. I saw this on Holmes on Holmes a week or so ago. I couldn't remember the years typically so I Wikipedia it. What years was asbestos used in plaster? Most types of asbestos-containing plaster were manufactured...

Water to the garage one day

I did 1" poly 4 feet deep in the ground. In my basement where I did the tie-in I put a ball valve shut off and a garden thread faucet post the shut off to be able to blow out the line if I needed to. On the pole barn side I came up and changed to copper and have a piece of thermometer...

Unsure of sizing for clear beam span

Bill, Thank you for all the information. I came across some Aluminum I-Beams that I may be able to get. You seem to have a lot of knowledge of load capacity. Here is the information about the I-Beams. Do you think these could work? 3.5 inches wide, 4 inches tall, 1/4 inch thick. 13.5 and...

Ahhh,, I see, never thought of it that way. Then I actually could have a built in toe board on top so things don't roll off as well. Thanks for the information and enlightening.

How do people install slab-edge insulation?

I did 2'x8' insulation panels all around the perimeter of my 40x40 PB. I used a trench shovel and pick-ax around the whole perimeter. I used great stuff foam to fill any voids around post beams as well. Then backfilled the dirt and did my base of 6" clean 3/4" gravel and then poured a 5" slab.

Unsure of sizing for clear beam span

My total height of the room floor to ceiling is 12'-8" . I wanted about 6'-6"to 6'-9" clearance under the loft to walk around at my workbench. That is why I am trying to squeeze out the thinnest profile beam I can so I do have to bend over too much above to move around. I am 6'-0" tall.

Unsure of sizing for clear beam span

I plan to put posts on each end as well. I am going to be sandwiched between a 10x10 clean room we have for bee keeping stuff and the end wall of the pole barn.

new gravel parking area - what top coat?

I have used what we can 3/4" blend in New Jersey. I spread it out then used a compactor plate and ran it back and forth in two directions. It packs solid, I don't feel that it needs a top coat. The only thing you need to make sure is that you have stable ground underneath. Make sure it...

Unsure of sizing for clear beam span

Going to build a loft in my pole barn. I want it to be 26' x 7'-6". I want to have one center post at 13'-0". I plan to do joists at 16" centers. This is strictly a storage loft, nothing to crazy heavy as I have to be able to carry it up to it. I want to use either a 6x6 or steel support...

Installing Foundation Insulation in a Pole Barn

I installed 2" pink foam board 2 feet deep around the whole perimeter of my pole barn except where the garage doors were. I laid 10Mil black plastic as a vapor barrier on top of the 5" of 3/4" clean gravel compacted underneath. Poured a 5" slab with fiber added

Hot Dawg 75000 BTU price and ventialtion

D45, I would love to know where you found yours for $575. That is a deal if it is still offered. I think I prefer a Hot Dawg unit, I have read to many mixed reviews about Mr Heater, equipment breakdown and customer service. In fairness I have also read rave reviews as well. But Hot Dawg is a...

Hot Dawg 75000 BTU price and ventialtion

I fond a new 75000 BTU Hot Dawg for $729.30 + tax and wanted to know if that was a good price or should I be looking some more? Also, where can I find the Horizontal Ventilation Kit? I want to go through the sidewall of my pole barn versus through the roof. Hate penetrating the roof if I don't...
